The Mercedes-Benz After Work Golf Cup is the international amateur tournament series for working golfers who love to pursue their hobby in a competitive, yet relaxed, environment.
This short-form of golf assists players who want to pursue their passion even when leisure time is limited by being a faster alternative to classic 18-hole tournaments. The After Work Golf Cup also drives the game of golf into the future by making golf accessible to more players, especially younger golfers, by enabling them to integrate the sport into their everyday life.
“The Mercedes-Benz After Work Golf Cup is a pioneering new competition which enables golfers around the world to play the sport in an exciting and convenient way. Nine-hole golf is continuing to grow in popularity among golfers worldwide so we are very pleased to support Mercedes-Benz in offering golfers more opportunities to enjoy this shorter format of the game, both socially and competitively,”
says Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A.
The nine-hole tournaments will be held between 8 October 2018 and 31 March 2019 at six of South Africa’s prestigious clubs. Entrance to the each of the 24 events is complimentary but limited to 100 players per event. Rounds will be played on weekdays from approximately 15:30 onwards, so ambitious golfers can now play competitively on a regular working day. The Mercedes-Benz After Work Golf Cup scores can be compared with other golfers through online ranking lists and registered players increase their chances of winning exclusive prizes the more they play.
“As with our vehicles, we’re constantly innovating. Mercedes-Benz has created the After Work Golf Cup to fit the lifestyle demands of the modern player. Time is a luxury and golfers require new formats to fulfil their passion for the sport. With nine-hole golf being less time-consuming, competition rounds at the Mercedes-Benz After Work Golf Cup are more compatible with working hours and family commitments, without compromising the enjoyment of the sport. The Mercedes-Benz After Work Golf Cup is half the distance and twice the fun,”
says Selvin Govender, Marketing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa.
