Kia continues partnership with RADA’s MiPad Project to empower teenage girls
Kia South Africa this week continues its support of Johannesburg-based nonprofit RADA – an acronym for rape, alcohol, drug, abuse – in its efforts to empower teenage girls through the distribution of MiPad reusable sanitary pads. Kia again partnered with RADA in its most recent fundraising raffle and will be providing a Kia vehicle to the winner of the campaign, Dr Paul Sussman, as he enjoys a two-night stay at the five-star Tiger Canyon Private Game Reserve, another of RADA’s longstanding partners.
“Our continued support of RADA and its various charitable endeavours remains unwavering, and it’s our privilege to support their fundraising efforts in whatever means we can,” says Christo Valentyn, General Manager of Marketing for Kia South Africa. “Kia is renowned for its signature ‘tiger-nose grille’, so it’s only natural that a luxurious destination such as Tiger Canyon needs an equally luxurious drive. We’re thrilled to make Dr Sussman’s trip even more memorable.”
Changing lives
The RADA MiPad project is aimed at empowering girls who so often stay at home when they are menstruating because they do not have access to, or in many cases, the means to buy sanitary wear. With RADA MiPad, which has a life span of up to five years, RADA hopes to enable girls to attend their classes and complete their schooling.
Last year, RADA visited the small community of Philippolis in the Free State. This was the very first MiPad handout and the main objective was to make a significant impact on the lives of the girls living in the town. RADA MiPad packs were handed out to all the Grade 7 girls at the two primary schools, as well as all high school girls. The fundraising raffle raised enough funds to allow RADA to sponsor and empower another 205 girls by providing them with MiPad packs, and will see RADA return to Philippolis later this year to distribute RADA MiPads packs to grade 7 learners.
How you can help
At the end of 2020, Kia South Africa donated a K2700 vehicle as well as R100,000 to the organisation and will this year contribute an additional R70,000. You too can become a RADA angel and sponsor a girl, a grade or a school.
