The crowning of the Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa pageant will take place on Friday, 16 Feb 2018. Sixteen (16) finalists from all over the country will be competing for the coveted title. The winner will walk away with a cash prize of R 15 000.

Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa is a leadership programme where young ladies aged between 16 and 19 years of age are taught everything from public speaking to leadership and modelling.

The purpose of the pageant is not only to celebrate their beauty, but also to encourage them to make a difference in their communities through involvement in charity work. The participants are expected to be involved in charity work in the five months leading to competition final of the pageant.

On Thursday afternoon the contestants went through extensive interviews in Johannesburg, and tonight the 16 contestants will be judged on their performance in  National Costume, Sportswear and Eveningwear.

27 Red Stageline is the official Makeup sponsor for this year’s pageant and Figures the official modelling Sponsor. Partnership with private sector companies is important for the City to roll out programmes for the benefit of its residents.

The City of Joburg is renowned for hosting events that attract visitors and investors. This is in line with one of the priorities of the current government to promote economic growth of the City to 5% by 2021.  Events such as this prestigious pageant that celebrate women in their glory are a true testimony of the diversity of this beautiful City. The young women who have gone through to the finals have shown that it is possible to live your dream while at the same time contributing to the community.

I wish all the finalists good luck for today. Remember there is only 1 crown, but you are all stars in my eyes. I hope the wonderful work you have started with the charity organisations will continue, and that you will continue to inspire more young people to be involved in uplifting the lives of those that are less fortunate than them.

Congratulations to the winners.
