THE SOWETO ART AND CRAFT FAIR presents 'I LOVE SOWETO' FEST! in association with Concerts SA


All roads lead to Jabulani Soweto this December 15th for an extended "I Love Soweto" edition of the SOWETO ART AND CRAFT FAIR, taking place at the Soweto Theatre from 12 - 10 pm, in association with Concerts SA and Joburg City.

This family-friendly fun day is a boastful display of the abundant creative flair that is fuelling the local creative economy of Soweto. Not only will you'll be able to shop from a bespoke variety of Fashion, Furniture, Art and tasty food, but audiences will also be spoilt  to life-giving LIVE music performances from the afro-psychedelic BCUC, an afro-coustic infusion  with Msaki and Neo Muyanga, as well as offerings from Umle; Sun Xa Experience and Makhafula Vilakazi. These are artists who are at the forefront of the sonic/spoken spaces they occupy, and they'll be joined on the ine-up by upcoming artists who have been accessing the platform that is this culture building SACF Fair, such as Dragon Karly and Afrika Cele.

This rivetting Live Music experience has been curated by Jozi Unsigned and Dream to Reality,  made possible in partnership with the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized live music venues in urban and rural Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, and the Western Cape.

The Soweto Art and Craft Fair will also be making up part of the Soweto Theatre's Festive Night Market campaign which seeks to encourage people to shop for unique locally manufactured gifts for their loved ones this festive season.

Come Kick off the Festive Season with us, SATURDAY DEC 15th, as we actively contribute towards the growth of the creative arts economy by enjoying and supporting the brave artisans, designers, painters and foodies who are determining their own fates as business owners; while we sing and dance along to the lekkerest of Live Local Music.

The Soweto Art & Craft Fair takes place at the world class Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, and is one of the theatre’s flagship events. Formed 5 years ago by a team of enterprising Sowetans, the Fair has blossomed into an award winning event which brings together a variety of people from all walks of life, who come experience and appreciate the array of locally-made arts and crafts, that are the heart and soul of this innovative initiative.

Jozi Unsigned is an organisation that seeks to build social capital in South Africa by bringing people together through arts, music and culture. The Company employs the spirit of the arts to leverage the potential of Jozi's dynamic, cosmopolitan and conscious young citizens. Jozi Unsigned provides support and opportunities to independent musicians; with a particular focus on jazz. It aims to position new talent at the centre of the Johannesburg arts and entertainment scene.

Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa.  It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
