5 Reasons Why You Should Insure Your Cellphone
What is your most valuable possession ? Most would say their cellphones.
Our cellphones have become part of our everyday life. We wake up, it's with us. We go out, it's with us. We go to sleep, it's with us. It stores all our data, and it's basically become our personal assistant.
But what do you do if something happens to it?
A few years ago I had got a brand new cellphone on contract. It was just a few days old, and on one particular day while driving, I stopped my car at a traffic light. I never use my phone while driving and I always used to (I don't anymore) keep my cellphone in the centre console under the radio. In the blink of an eye someone smashed my window, reached into the car, grabbed the phone from the centre console and there was a bit of a struggle, but he managed to still get the phone and dashed away through the traffic.
Besides the damage to the car, I was devastated because my cellphone wasn't insured, it was a very expensive cellphone, and I still had to pay for my contract, and I couldn't replace the phone.
Although we hope these things wouldn't happen to us or anyone that we know, the reality is that they do.
The simple way to prevent your cellphone from getting stolen would be to not use it in public, but that doesn't make sense because you buy your phone to use it. The next best thing, is to make sure that you back up all your data constantly and you get your cellphone insured.
Why do we need to insure our cellphones?
Here are 5 reasons why I recommend that your cellphone should be insured.
1. Theft - as I mentioned above smash and grabs, snatch and runs, or even theft from your handbag or pocket are very common in many parts of the world. We recently heard of a friend who had her phone snatched right out of her hand!
2. Loss - sometimes your phone could slip out of your pocket while you are in the bus, train or taxi, and you lose it. You could also misplace it when you go somewhere unfamiliar for the first time.
3. Accidental Damage - we are human, and we tend to drop things now and again, one of them is usually our phones. If there is no cover or screen protector, the screen might get damaged when the phone is dropped or even bumped. Even if there are screen protectors or covers, the impact of the fall might still cause some damage.
4. Water Damage - sometimes you're trying to get the best picture at a party and your phone accidentally slips into someone's drink or worse into the pool, which causes severe water damage to your phone.
5. Piece of Mind - being covered sometimes puts you more at ease, which strangely enough, actually prevents you from doing weird and wonderful things that could damage your cellphone.
King Price recently launched their Bling Insurance Cover for cellphones.
They have 3 options available for cover:
1. BrandNew
2. LikeNew
3. ScreenFix
The names are pretty explanatory but here's a breakdown of each:
BrandNew means it will be repaired if it can, or it will be replaced with a brand new phone.
You will be covered anywhere in the world for loss, theft, accidental damage, or water damage.
LikeNew means it will be repaired if it can, or it will be replaced with a similar make and model or a similar, refurbished phone.
Again you will be covered worldwide for loss, theft, accidental damage, or water damage of your phone.
ScreenFix means any cracks on your screen will be repaired due to accidental damage.
There will be no replacement of the phone, only repairs done to the screen for this cover option.
Once again you will be covered worldwide, this time only for damage to your screen from bumping and dropping your phone.
There are excess amounts for each of the three options.

Remember when insuring your phone, like any other item that you would insure - always make sure you choose the correct replacement value.
