A Tornado has hit Ennerdale in the South of Johannesburg last night with reported wind speeds of up to 177km/h. The South African Weather Service has given it an EF1 rating.

EF stands for the Enhanced Fujita scale‚ which rates the intensity of tornadoes in the United States and Canada based on the damage they cause – EF0 being the lowest‚ while EF5 usually has wind speeds of 320km/h or more.

The tornado ripped through more than 50 households in Ennerdale with only 12 of them being insured.

Ilze Ferris managed to capture some of the Tornado and the damage it caused.
