Family Is The Name Of The Game On This Week's Episode Of The Insider SA

On The Insider SA this week, we celebrate the love and bond of family. We meet some remarkable people and businesses who thrive on the concept of famly and who have used this to elevate their brands.

The Simple Life on Buffalo Farm, Buff and Fellow

On a working buffalo farm along the Garden Route, we find the story of a family who have become even closer by overcoming challenges together. The name of the farm is Ultreya, a Spanish word meaning “onward with courage” – and it’s an apt name for their life’s philosophy. Everyone in the family has their role to play with Pieter tending to the buffalo farming, creative mom, Sukie looking after the décor and hospitality, and Frikkie, who established the eco-pods and eco-cabins.
Inside The Whitfield Family’s Modern & Eco-Friendly Treetop Hideaway

The Insider SA visited the friendly city of PE to meet John and Fiona Whitfield, a brave couple who took a leap of faith to downsize and retire in the restful comforts of nature. In 2015, the Whitfield’s chose to subdivide their property, sell their 1940s family home, and build a one-bedroom treetop hideaway next door.

Khanyi and Khanz Mbau’s Mom & Daughter Getaway

Heading out to Limpopo, The Insider SA joins Khanyi Mbau and her family, on a much needed getaway – the perfect opportunity for her to catch a rare break and let us in on what she’s been up to. Khanyi has become a household name. The actress and TV host rose to fame as Doobsie in the SABC2 soap opera Muvhango. Today she plays Lady K on Uzalo, a role Khanyi has had the most fun in portraying. Khanyi takes some time out of her busy schedule to reconnect and relax with her 13-year-old daughter Khanukani Mbau, (or ‘Khanz’ as she’s affectionately called) and her niece, Katleho for some quality family time together at Palala Boutique Game Lodge and Spa.

Restauranteur, Sean Barber, launches Rocket’s latest mega-venue in Pretoria

COVID-19 has been particularly hard on the hospitality industry. Resilience has been key for people like restaurateur and family man, Sean Barber, who runs multiple establishments in South Africa. The Insider SA joined Sean and his family to hear about his latest venture in Menlyn, Pretoria and how he began his empire. For Sean, it’s more than a restaurant, it’s a lifestyle he intends to curate.

Papy Kaluw: The designer behind fashion brand, Urban Zulu

Papy Kaluw’s fashion brand started when he dropped out of university due to a lack of funds. He was left with no other option but to try and make a living from skills he could teach himself. Papy learnt how to design clothes from scratch and began altering garments. His first creation was a simple T-shirt for a friend and he began selling his clothes outside Market Theatre. Today, Urban Zulu is world-famous, Afrocentric fashion brand specialising in ready-to-wear clothes with an Pan-African touch. Papy’s creations are now seen on celebrities, musicians, artists, or just about anyone with a flair for African prints and urban styling.
