Scotch & Soda launches its men’s and women’s collection for Spring Summer 2018, taking inspiration from the solo travellers of the world. The collection was sparked by the story of Australian writer and traveller Robyn Davidson, who is known for her 1,700-mile trek across the deserts of Western Australia. In 1977, Robyn was aged just 25 when she set out on her epic journey, and her bohemian spirit was the starting point for Spring/Summer’s light-filled collection.
Dedicated to all the brave, solo travellers – those whose only travel companion is mother nature herself – the Seven Lights of Day collection references the transformation of light through twenty-four hours on the trail. From the soft pastels of sunrise and the heat-soaked hues of midday to the indigos of dusk and the fiery brights of campfire light – each time of day has a unique identity; and we’ve attempted to capture them all in our collection’s colour palette.
‘Spring/Summer 2018 tells the stories of the solo traveller; the brave spirit wandering the world. Trekking alone exaggerates every moment and every feeling – sounds get louder and colours get brighter. Every stretch of day’s light is so intense, and this intensity has inspired both stories and shades that have been interwoven in our collection. The traveller’s world is wherever you let your senses take you.’
– Marlou van Engelen, Creative Director Scotch & Soda.
For men, a palette of golden khaki, rich navy, earthy pastels and other sky- inspired shades infuse an offering comprised of relaxed tailoring and safari separates. The classic palm frond is reimagined in sunset-hued metallics – appearing as an allover print on bold chinos, and an ornate motif on a statement blazer. Subtle patterns reminiscent of a lunar eclipse bring both the inspiration and the collection full-circle.
For women, richly woven brocades and bold prints contrast with sportive stripes and minimal shapes. Just as in the men’s collection, the light-inspired palette of burnished golds, rich russet and other jewel-toned shades is a central tenant, while the pieces take on a lived-in quality. Tailoring remains soft, while prints are meant to be clashed. This collection is made for the modern traveller: easy yet eclectic separates that deliver on pull-on-and-go polish.
