Something special in the air this Autumn

The Johannesburg Children’s Home is one of the oldest children’s homes in Johannesburg and will once again be hosting its bi- annual Autumn Book & Food Fair on 1 April 2023.  The Johannesburg Children’s Home was started in 1892 in Fordsburg, Johannesburg by Mrs Von Brandis. Since it’s early days, the Home has provided much needed care for vulnerable and orphaned children in Johannesburg.

The Johannesburg Children’s Home is based in Observatory, Johannesburg and has grown into a professional Child and Youth Care Centre with the addition of an Early Childhood Development Centre called Funda Ngo Thando which currently provides early childhood education for over 40 children between the ages of 2 and 5 years. The Johannesburg Children’s Home cares for 64 children ranging from the age of 3yrs to 21yrs. Providing much needed residential, educational, developmental, and therapeutic care for orphans and vulnerable children.

The Johannesburg Children’s Home relies on donations and funding from the community and government but need additional sustainable funding to match the ever-increasing financial needs of providing quality care for the children at the home.

Implementation of the Social Enterprise “The Imvelo Experience” creates sustainable funding opportunities for the organisation.  One of the fundraising strategies implemented are Book & Food Fairs. This year we will hold the fairs on  1 April and 30 September.

The Imvelo Experience, was officially launched at our 130th birthday celebration in December 2022 to coincide with our Bi -Annual book and food fair.  Whether you’re a customer, a guest, corporate or community volunteer, our re-imagined social enterprise in support of The Johannesburg Children’s Home will leave you with a lasting memorable experience. Our vision is to continually strive to deliver memorable experiences for our guests and customers through our diverse range of enterprise offerings. Our mission is to build a financially sustainable and productive social enterprise that provides high value products and services that contribute to our children as key beneficiaries on their journey to becoming responsible citizens, whilst positively impacting our environment and contributing to our local economy.

Bring your friends and family to enjoy a picnic on the lawns.

Enjoy a fabulous morning at our market, browsing through our preloved books and children’s art display and many food and artisanal stalls. Jumping castles will entertain the children.

You stand a chance to win a prize for all picnics ordered.
