Worldwide support for Global Road Safety Week
The Road Safety Partnership South Africa (RSP-SA) is marking the UN’s 6th Global Road Safety Partnership this week by supporting the #Love30 campaign.
The RSP is encouraged to see that many road safety organisations within South Africa and around the world are undertaking initiatives throughout May to bring attention to road safety and the call to lower speed limits which is the theme of the week this year.
The RSP-SA says within South Africa the organisation will be joining the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in their initiative on 21 and 22 May. “The RTMC will be hosting activations in Gauteng, the Northern Cape and the Western Cape. Through these activations the body hopes to share the message of how lower speed limits can reduce the crashes and fatalities on our roads.
“In particular, the activities will be focusing on schools and universities and the importance of lowering speed limits where students are both drivers and pedestrians. A pedestrian crossing will also be painted at a school in need of a safe place to cross.”
Road safety organisations across the world have their own activities to promote Global Road Safety week and the #Love30 campaign. “Many of these events will take place as webinars that individuals can join. If you would like to add your voice to the movement, register for some of the below webinars.”
