The annual CHOC Flip Flop Day is upon us. FLIP FLOP Day fundraising event held to raise much-needed funds for the South African non-profit organisation, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Leading up to Flip Flop Day, the public can buy a sticker for and should wear their flip flops for the entire day on 18 February 2022. Work or school shoes get replaced by their summer sandals. For just R10 a sticker purchased from any PNA or Tekkie Town, you can support this initiative to assist teens and children fighting cancer.

CHOC provides comprehensive support to children with cancer and their families in South Africa. Offering services such as professional emotional and bereavement counselling to the children and their families; they also offer necessities such as Carebags and nutritious food parcels, accommodation, transport to and from treatment centres, as well as educational and awareness programmes on the early warning signs of childhood cancer. At any given time, across all nine provinces, the organisation will have at least 1500 child patients and families under their care.

Taryn Seeger, Communication Coordinator of CHOC says

“For the past forty years, as a non-profit organisation, CHOC has relied on the funds and donations from corporates and individuals. Events like Flip Flop Day help us receive and sustain the funds to support our courageous young patients, so that they can continue fighting even when their little bodies are exhausted and hurting.”

She continues
“Over R1,4 million raised in 2021, with R530 000 of that coming just from PNA and their customers through sticker sales in their stores and an additional donation from PNA.  Money raised by CHOC goes directly to benefit the children and their families as well as support our teams involved in the treatment of childhood cancer. In fact, we strive to spend 80% of funds acquired for our programmes which is significantly higher than the NGO sector average of between 60% and 70% utilisation on core activities.”

Herman Botha, PNA Senior Executive, Product and Marketing says
“PNA continues to support CHOC in their purpose-driven work to help children and their families in a very challenging time in their lives. As a retail partner in this fundraising event, we make it easy for our customers to make a meaningful contribution. At check-out, you can simply purchase a Flip Flop Day sticker for only R10. Through this simple mechanic, we have over the past 2 years donated close to R1 million to the CHOC foundation. We call on all South Africans to participate in the efforts.”

Furthermore, 20 PNA stores across the country will stock top local flip flop brand, Plakkies© and as part of the 2022 Flip Flop Day campaign with fifty rand from each of these sales donated to CHOC.
