South African born professionals living in Canada are making a difference in their home country
South African born Shaheer Aboobaker, Alapan Arnab, Ridwaan Haniff, and Shiraz Mohideen who are now living in Canada have launched the Young Professionals Bursary.

The Young Professionals Bursary was founded by the four expatriates to uplift and empower previously disadvantaged students in South Africa, both financially as well as providing mentorship and potential networking opportunities in their future careers.
This is done by providing students with bursaries for their studies at the University of Cape Town.

Their vision for the initiative is to build and develop a strong network of individuals to assist these graduates as they enter into the workforce.
Using the concept of paying-it-forward, the founders say:
"The ultimate aim is having the recipients of the bursaries to be in a position to give back, either financially or in their own capacity as mentors to the future generations coming through."
Even with the current global pandemic the Young Professional Bursary did not steer from their goal, and as a result today they announced the first recipients of the bursaries; Tiro Hutamo and Olachi "Ola" Emereum.
Tiro is a 5th year MBChB student from Polokwane, whose passion for medicine grew out of her mother's service to her community as a nurse. Tiro's strong academic record, varied campus activities, resilience against adversity, and passion for medicine led to her selection as the inaugural recipient for a full bursary.
Ola is currently in her 2nd year also studying MBChB and has a strong creative side. She is the recipient of a 50% bursary from the Young Professional Bursary.
