To dear listeners, it's just past 200 p.m. in South Africa and it's officially the last day of November.
19 seconds
It's Sunday the 30th of November 2025 which corresponds to Yomul Aad the 9th
25 seconds
of Jumad Ora 1447 ah I'm Zad Plachies and with me are my co-hosts Nabia and Issa Plachis.
36 seconds
Welcome to Level Up, where we listen, learn, and grow, inshallah, with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's guidance, and we
43 seconds
break down the week's news and talk about what really matters to young Muslims today. Our WhatsApp line is open. The number is 0727861548.
56 seconds
You can call in on 0185472 or DM us on iil.com.
1 minute, 4 seconds
That's I L O V E Z A C O M.
1 minute, 10 seconds
So a few weeks ago we started our eco-friendly discussion and this week we continue it with delving into the world
1 minute, 19 seconds
of new energy, not new energy drinks, but rather new
1 minute, 25 seconds
sustainable, renewable and alternative energy solutions that we have here, right here in South Africa. um which
1 minute, 33 seconds
most of us probably don't know even exists. Well, I didn't even know until like a few weeks ago. So, after the half
1 minute, 41 seconds
hour, we we will be hearing from Realway Ramat Lloydi in Glovu, the corporate and brand communications manager at Toyota
1 minute, 49 seconds
South Africa Motors. And later, Issa will also be sharing some Islamic sustainable energy saving tips. But
1 minute, 57 seconds
right now, let's get straight into the news.
2 minutes
Okay, so one of the major headlines this morning is cries of solar ripoff as firms bypass local rules.
2 minutes, 12 seconds
So the case calls into question government's commitment to local content requirements. The article which appeared in the Sunday Times written by
2 minutes, 20 seconds
investigative investigative journalist Sabella Skiti discusses a controversy in South Africa's renewable energy sector
2 minutes, 28 seconds
where independent power producers and I'll soon be referring to them as IPs
2 minutes, 36 seconds
are facing allegations of widespread non-compliance with local content rules.
2 minutes, 41 seconds
So I'm going to try and summarize it um with a few key points.
2 minutes, 46 seconds
Okay. Okay. So the allegation which is the solar ripoff a Durban based local solar PV manufacturer Art Solar the only
2 minutes, 56 seconds
one in subsaharan Africa has filed a court application alleging that 18
3 minutes, 3 seconds
foreign companies and their joint ventures awarded billions of rands worth of contracts under government programs.
3 minutes, 11 seconds
So it's a whole bunch of abbreviations now. not RMI PPP REI PPP bid windows 5
3 minutes, 19 seconds
and six. So they're not using locally produced solar panels as required.
3 minutes, 28 seconds
Then in terms of the non-compliance, these IPs committed to sourcing 30% of
3 minutes, 34 seconds
their panels locally but allegedly using cheaper Chinese panels instead.
3 minutes, 42 seconds
With the financial impact, the localization requirement was factored into the premium pricing of the successful bids. By sidstepping this
3 minutes, 50 seconds
rule, the IP IPS are avail are able to pocket the premium that South African consumers are
3 minutes, 58 seconds
paying for electricity supposedly to cover the higher cost of local panels.
4 minutes, 6 seconds
is comb buys this power and passes the cost directly to consumers.
4 minutes, 13 seconds
Then the government role in this art solar argues that the department of trade industry and competition
4 minutes, 20 seconds
and the department of mineral resources and energy have failed to enforce the localization rules effectively turning a blind eye.
4 minutes, 31 seconds
With regards to the court case, Arts Solar is asking the Ptoria High Court to either set aside the decision to exempt
4 minutes, 38 seconds
companies from the localization requirements if an exemption was granted or set aside the failure of the departments to determine compliance.
4 minutes, 48 seconds
They also want the court to order the IPS to conclude agreements with local manufacturers like Art Solar. So the
4 minutes, 57 seconds
response for the government from the government the DMRE which is the department is opposing the application
5 minutes, 4 seconds
arguing art solar lacked standing as it was not a bidder and that its application was speculative.
5 minutes, 12 seconds
They also claimed their role was limited to procurement with the DTIC being responsible for exemptions.
5 minutes, 19 seconds
The government and IPS have also resisted efforts by art solar to access full project records. So what does this
5 minutes, 27 seconds
have on the local impact? In anticipation of these contracts, art solar secured 90 million rand in funding
5 minutes, 35 seconds
from the industrial development corporation and invested 30 million rand of its own money for upgrades for an advanced production line.
5 minutes, 46 seconds
The lack of orders due to non-compliance has forced the company to scale down production and lay off staff.
5 minutes, 55 seconds
With regard to the broader context, the case highlights the tension between the government's localization goals and the
6 minutes, 2 seconds
reality of a global market dominated by China, which supplies 80% of the world's solar panels.
6 minutes, 10 seconds
Some experts argue that South Africa should focus on components where it has comp a competitive advantage like
6 minutes, 17 seconds
cables, ingots and trackers rather than competing with China on panel manufacturing as the components are not
6 minutes, 24 seconds
just used in solar they are used in wind as well.
6 minutes, 29 seconds
Sure that's crazy. So people are just basically getting ripped off on solar panels and people are spending
6 minutes, 36 seconds
thousands of rands to install solar panels and basically these companies are just like profiting from it. Um using
6 minutes, 45 seconds
cheaper I don't think all Chinese products are cheap. They always say like Chinese products are like no they're not cheap
6 minutes, 52 seconds
are cheaper. No like we have this in terms of price now. No, but not only
6 minutes, 58 seconds
that, we we have this um what is it? A preconceived idea that anything that's made in China is cheap quality.
7 minutes, 7 seconds
Yes. The cheap quality, but also cheap in price. Because I know a lot of people say go down to if you want to get something go to the China markets and
7 minutes, 15 seconds
we go to some of them and the prices are just the same.
7 minutes, 20 seconds
Yeah. But also the quality is increased as well. So I don't think uh there is different grades in in any country um of
7 minutes, 29 seconds
you know like labor or products or resources or whatever. So you're going to get, you know, like cheaper quality and you're going to get good quality.
7 minutes, 36 seconds
And I don't think that everything that comes out of China, we're not saying I don't know um exactly about the solar panels, what's a a cheaper quality or
7 minutes, 44 seconds
whatever, but I mean like like the expert said, I think South Africa should um you know look at competing with
7 minutes, 52 seconds
components and stuff. there are other things that they have a competitive advantage with and um
7 minutes, 59 seconds
you don't think that they should try to make solar panels you know like to try and master the art of making solar panels properly.
8 minutes, 8 seconds
You see the thing is labor in South Africa costs a lot. Um, so production would would essentially cost a lot and
8 minutes, 17 seconds
you're looking at a global market to um in order for you to to get a good profit from it. We can't just rely on the South
8 minutes, 25 seconds
African market. The South African market is not big enough for them to produce or manufacture those solar panels just for
8 minutes, 32 seconds
South Africa or Africa. Um, well Africa maybe, but not South Africa. And um, obviously it's cheaper to make it in
8 minutes, 39 seconds
China. So, um yeah, and and like we said, um in our previous uh episode
8 minutes, 49 seconds
about e the eco-friendly episode that we always when we think green solutions, we think of solar and solar is actually the
8 minutes, 57 seconds
most expensive. And in this article, they mention wind as well, right? Um which brings me to something
9 minutes, 5 seconds
uh I witnessed recently which was both interesting and fascinating.
9 minutes, 10 seconds
Um so as we have seen in the past year or so there's been a rise in new energy vehicles in South Africa from hybrid to
9 minutes, 18 seconds
plug-in hybrid to battery electric. Um Stalantis is um a group who owns brands
9 minutes, 25 seconds
like Jeep, Alpha, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat and Abath. So they just recently introduced their first Chinese
9 minutes, 33 seconds
brand to the stable and launched their first electric vehicle which is the leap motor C10 reev
9 minutes, 42 seconds
which is range extended electric vehicle. They also recently launched the first battery electric vehicle for Alfa
9 minutes, 49 seconds
Romeo in South Africa. But um I want to talk about the leap motor launch which alhamdulillah I was fortunate enough to
9 minutes, 56 seconds
attend. So unlike other launches which the main focus was on the car, this launch was focused on new energy
10 minutes, 4 seconds
solutions in South Africa to obviously complement the car. Um since this is not a motoring program, we won't discuss the
10 minutes, 12 seconds
vehicle uh that you can find in our motoring section on ilza.com.
10 minutes, 17 seconds
Um or you can follow us on let's talk za on social media. It's @ l e t s t o r q
10 minutes, 25 seconds
u e za. Okay, let's talk today. Um, so let's talk about the launch. So we
10 minutes, 31 seconds
landed in Cape Town and we went um to the hotel Verde. I hope I'm pronouncing this right in Cape Town which is said to be Africa's greenest hotel. Okay.
10 minutes, 44 seconds
Okay.
10 minutes, 44 seconds
It's quite close to the airport. Um, if you know the area, you know the BP station there, City Lodge, it's quite
10 minutes, 52 seconds
it's in that vicinity, right? Uh, not Disney Road Lodge, sorry. Um, so apparently it's not just a place to
11 minutes, 2 seconds
check in, it's an environmental benchmark.
11 minutes, 6 seconds
Um, so we didn't get to stay over, so we didn't obviously get to experience the hotel itself. Uh, we just had a
11 minutes, 13 seconds
presentation then. It was used as a base for the launch. Uh, but I got a a bit of information about the hotel which I want
11 minutes, 21 seconds
to share. So the hotel was designed from the ground up to be green. So think solar uh PVs which Nabia spoke about
11 minutes, 29 seconds
lining the roof, vertical gardens purifying the air, uh gray water systems flushing the toilets and even
11 minutes, 37 seconds
in terms of like you know us being able to um sort ourselves out at home by using gray water. How do you feel about hotels using gray water?
11 minutes, 49 seconds
I think it's it's brilliant. I mean, the more you're saving, the better for the environment, especially in Cape Town where they had um water restrictions.
11 minutes, 58 seconds
So, I think it it's, you know, like um it's a plus. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
12 minutes, 6 seconds
And there's even regenerative lifts that put energy back into the system every time they stop.
12 minutes, 13 seconds
Hotel Verde is the first hotel in the world to receive double platinum LED which is leadership in energy and
12 minutes, 20 seconds
environmental design and is 100% carbon neutral for operations. There's an energy generating gym, an eco pool
12 minutes, 30 seconds
filtered by plants and a conference center which we used that runs off solar.
12 minutes, 36 seconds
I wonder what the rooms are like. Yeah, I I think that's the next next step is for us to to visit there inshallah.
12 minutes, 44 seconds
So from there we drove to clip h clip hill wind farm where we had the
12 minutes, 51 seconds
opportunity to marvel at the 65 m high wind turbines that gracefully harvest wind energy to feed into South Africa's
13 minutes
power good grids. So there it is wind. I mean if you if they using those components there's wind turbines here in South Africa and you see it along the
13 minutes, 8 seconds
Cape. We've seen it in Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape. There's quite a lot of wind farms there.
13 minutes, 14 seconds
But this particular wind farm is one of the country's earliest REIP.
13 minutes, 20 seconds
Maybe I spoke of that renewable energy independent power producer procurement program project and remains in Sure. said that a few times.
13 minutes, 31 seconds
An icon of what's possible when we invest in renewable infrastructure.
13 minutes, 38 seconds
Just feeling the wind whip across the planes while listening to that soft whoosh of the turbine blades is an
13 minutes, 45 seconds
unforgett unforgettable moment and one that reminds us how much power Allah provides through natural resources like
13 minutes, 55 seconds
the wind and nature when we listen, learn and grow.
14 minutes, 1 second
So our next stop was the Palmit hydro station nestled in the picturesque mountains near Krabo. The palmit pumped
14 minutes, 9 seconds
storage scheme is a vital part of South Africa's energy network. Using pump storage technology, it pumps water
14 minutes, 16 seconds
uphill during low demand and releases it through turbines to produce up to 400 megawatt of electricity when demand
14 minutes, 25 seconds
peaks, delivering clean, rapid response power to Cape Town and the national grid.
14 minutes, 32 seconds
It's located within the UNESCO which is United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization
14 minutes, 39 seconds
listed Kohlber Biosphere Reserve. Permit blends engineering with ecology, managing water
14 minutes, 48 seconds
responsibly while supporting intercatchment transfers.
14 minutes, 53 seconds
Then lastly, we visited the Cavelli estate in Somerset West. The estate solar energy system powers much of its
15 minutes
operations while rainwater harvesting, composting and energy efficient design round out its low impact footprint.
15 minutes, 11 seconds
So it was quite an adventure alhamdulillah and I think one that like I said this was unforgettable. I don't think it was just amazing to be there.
15 minutes, 21 seconds
alhamdulillah to witness these things, you know, like to which which a lot not a lot of people would would be able to see cuz obviously these things are
15 minutes, 29 seconds
restricted from the public and alhamdulillah I got to witness it and I came back to share the story. Um,
15 minutes, 36 seconds
alhamdulillah. So let's go for a break and when we return we will hear from corporate brand communications manager at Toyota South Africa Motors Rifilway
15 minutes, 45 seconds
Ramat Lloydi and Glovu inshallah tutoring mentoring homeschool assistance
15 minutes, 52 seconds
concessions facilitation and more visit after faj academy the dawn of
16 minutes
excellence and welcome back to level up. If you've
16 minutes, 9 seconds
just tuned in, we have been talking all about new energy. Right now, we have
16 minutes, 16 seconds
corporate a and brand communications manager at Toyota South Africa Motors
16 minutes, 23 seconds
Refill Rama Glo.
16 minutes, 29 seconds
If you have any questions for her, our WhatsApp line is open. The number is 0727861548
16 minutes, 37 seconds
or you can call in on 011854722 or you can even DM us on.com that's I l o v e z a c o m.
16 minutes, 50 seconds
Hi there. Thank you for joining us. We won't take up too much of your time.
16 minutes, 56 seconds
We're talking all about new energy and Zad recently attended the hydrogen refueling demonstration with the Toyota Marai at the B20 summit in Santon.
17 minutes, 9 seconds
Please can you give our listeners a brief overview of what type of vehicle the Toyota Marai is and the future of
17 minutes, 17 seconds
mobility in South Africa. The MAI is Toyota's fuel cell electric vehicle, a product that showcases hydrogen technology.
17 minutes, 27 seconds
The Toyota MAI is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and emits only water vapor, making it a compelling example of
17 minutes, 35 seconds
Toyota's commitment to carbon neutrality through a multipathway approach. The strategy recognizes that no single
17 minutes, 44 seconds
technology can meet the diverse needs of global markets. It emphasizes the need for hybrid battery electric hydrogen
17 minutes, 53 seconds
fuel cell and other emerging technologies to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. Some of our
18 minutes
listeners have just completed their metric exams and are weighing up the options of a career field and some are
18 minutes, 9 seconds
currently studying towards certain qualifications.
18 minutes, 14 seconds
What does Toyota have on offer once students have successfully completed their degree? The Toyota graduate
18 minutes, 22 seconds
program entails a robust 2-year learning journey where we develop graduates to become future leaders in our company.
18 minutes, 30 seconds
During the two years, graduates rotate throughout the business areas to gain an understanding of the Toyota business.
18 minutes, 37 seconds
Applications open yearly around July with the recruitment process kickstarting around September. The
18 minutes, 45 seconds
program officially starts in February. A few weeks ago, we mentioned the Toyota gaming engine on the program in one of
18 minutes, 54 seconds
our discussions and how it has grown in the past 5 years.
19 minutes
Please can you share with our listeners a little bit about the Toyota gaming engine and how it has impacted the
19 minutes, 8 seconds
youth? The Toyota gaming engine was launched in 2020 in response to COVID 19. TTG emerged as Toyota's dedicated
19 minutes, 19 seconds
gaming platform at a time when traditional sports were on hold. By creating this dynamic space, TTGE
19 minutes, 27 seconds
redefined how gaming brings people together, turning a global post into a platform for innovation and entertainment.
19 minutes, 37 seconds
5 years later, TTGE has become a central hub for both professional and amateur gamers of all skill levels.
19 minutes, 46 seconds
The gaming platform offers a vibrant community where enthusiasts can connect, compete, and grow. Through challenges,
19 minutes, 55 seconds
tournaments, and exclusive events, members showcase their talent, engage with like-minded players, and win exciting prizes.
20 minutes, 5 seconds
TTG has significantly influenced young people by creating a platform that blends entertainment, skills development, and community engagement.
20 minutes, 15 seconds
It has provided a safe and inclusive space where youth can connect with peers, compete in structured tournaments, and explore their passion
20 minutes, 25 seconds
for gaming. Wow, that's amazing. Um, so Toyota doesn't only build vehicles for every type of person or family, but they
20 minutes, 33 seconds
are also involved in so much more in the community as a whole.
20 minutes, 38 seconds
With that being said, I know that our little ones who are listening are thinking, but what is there for us? And
20 minutes, 46 seconds
there actually is something for the little ones um for children. There is an art competition which Toyota runs.
20 minutes, 56 seconds
Rafil, please could you share with our listeners what is this art competition about and how they can participate?
21 minutes, 5 seconds
Annually, the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest invites children across the world to envision the future of mobility
21 minutes, 12 seconds
through art. The purpose of the contest is to nurture the dreams of young minds and inspire the next generation of
21 minutes, 19 seconds
change makers. The contest is open for children 15 years and younger. The contest will launch in December and
21 minutes, 28 seconds
close in February. For entry forms and terms and conditions, listeners should visit toyota.co.za/dreamcar.
21 minutes, 40 seconds
Thank you, Rafiway, for your time and for the very informative discussion.
21 minutes, 47 seconds
Wow. Um, you said it. Toyota is really giving back and growing communities. I think, um, you say you must look out for
21 minutes, 55 seconds
that Toyota art competition. like you miss it every year but um hopefully this year next year
22 minutes, 3 seconds
well this year starting December she said oh can run till February inshallah in um yeah so besides what you and Refield
22 minutes, 11 seconds
spoke about Nabia Toyota hosts uh hosted another event this week this one was celebrating those in the agricultural
22 minutes, 20 seconds
sector oh okay yeah so Toyota South Africa Motors in partnership with Agri SA and conservation SA hosted annual farmer of
22 minutes, 28 seconds
the year awards gala to recognize innovation and sustainability in the crucial agricultural sector.
22 minutes, 36 seconds
That's very cool.
22 minutes, 37 seconds
Yeah. The event aims to uplift farmers who significantly significantly contribute to the nation's food
22 minutes, 44 seconds
security, employment, and exports. The 2025 awards celebrated Rudani Sadiki as
22 minutes, 52 seconds
the new harvest of the year who received a Toyota Hilux. Wow.
22 minutes, 58 seconds
Not just it's not just a Baky, it's a Hilux and especially on a farm. That's like a really good car to have or Bucky to have.
23 minutes, 6 seconds
Yeah. So he received that for his diversified and sustainable farming methods. Right. Francois Russo was named
23 minutes, 14 seconds
young farmer of the year for his precision viticulture practices and
23 minutes, 21 seconds
supply and farming one communal farming association of the year for successfully for successful integrated operations.
23 minutes, 30 seconds
Tiosa South Africa Motors highlighted that their support goes beyond recognition aiming to build a stronger and more sustainable future for South African farming.
23 minutes, 41 seconds
That's amazing. That's really a good initiative and it's good to honor the farmers who you know bring us our fresh
23 minutes, 47 seconds
fruit and vegetables and you know Yeah. And I think um you know like like you said Toyota is not just building
23 minutes, 56 seconds
cars um for for everyone. They they actually you know like giving back to the community as a whole in South Africa.
24 minutes, 5 seconds
Yeah. I mean this is the agricultural part. Then there's the art competition.
24 minutes, 10 seconds
Then um there's the gaming, you know, so industry for for those who are gamers, I'm sure they know about the Toyota gaming engine.
24 minutes, 18 seconds
Yeah. And and not only that, this is just Toyota. They have Lexus as well, and Lexus is also quite involved in in a
24 minutes, 26 seconds
lot of things. They have that that Lexus art fair as well.
24 minutes, 29 seconds
Um yeah. So there's like there's like so many things that um that they're doing to give back and to build the community.
24 minutes, 37 seconds
That's good.
24 minutes, 37 seconds
Um, and I think I believe also there is that um Toyota Gazoo, they have a junior um division as well.
24 minutes, 46 seconds
Yes, they do. So they they Toyota Gazoo Racing that is motorsport.
24 minutes, 51 seconds
Yeah. So motorsport and Toyota Gazu Racing if if you follow that um they've won the Dhaka quite a few times um
24 minutes, 58 seconds
bringing it home for South Africa and they have now an academy not now they they have for a few years an academy for
25 minutes, 5 seconds
like a junior academy for younger um I I'm not sure at this moment how old but there is a junior training academy.
25 minutes, 14 seconds
Yeah. Well, alhamdulillah we've had some really young Muslim brothers. uh the Varyia was they competed in and have
25 minutes, 23 seconds
been racing for Toyota Gazu Racing. So they they're uplifting the community at large.
25 minutes, 28 seconds
Yeah. If you want to know more um the articles are on our website www.ilza.com.
25 minutes, 35 seconds
You can just um search racing. Um if you want to know more the about Toyota
25 minutes, 43 seconds
you can. And also if you want to know if there are any Muslims who are racing um I'm not sure if we should be promoting
25 minutes, 50 seconds
that but uh it's a sport I suppose just be careful just just be careful in in the sport. It's racing is not something
25 minutes, 57 seconds
that I would um want my son to do but cuz I would be scared but I mean it
26 minutes, 4 seconds
is a sport. So if you want to know more about the Muslims who are in the motorsport industry you can have a look on our website. The information is there inshallah.
26 minutes, 15 seconds
And I think um talking about young ones um before we wrap up today's program, I
26 minutes, 22 seconds
think Issa is just going to tell us something important and something all of us can do and that is saving energy as Muslims.
26 minutes, 35 seconds
In Islam, Allah teaches us not to waste.
26 minutes, 40 seconds
In the Quran, Allah says Allah does not love those who waste.
26 minutes, 46 seconds
So even the small things that we do at home can be part be a part of our dean.
26 minutes, 56 seconds
Here are a few simple ways we can use energy wisely.
27 minutes, 5 seconds
Number one, switch off what you are not using.
27 minutes, 12 seconds
Lights, chargers, the TV, and even the Wi-Fi router at night. Saving
27 minutes, 20 seconds
electricity is like saying thank you to Allah for the blessings he gave us. Number two,
27 minutes, 29 seconds
using natural light when you can open the curtains. during the day. It saves
27 minutes, 36 seconds
power and it makes the house feel bright and peaceful.
27 minutes, 42 seconds
Number three, don't leave plugs in for no reason. Even when something is not
27 minutes, 49 seconds
charging, the plug still uses a little bit of power. This is a small action with a big bara.
28 minutes, 1 second
Number four, be mindful with hot water.
28 minutes, 5 seconds
Heating water uses a lot of electricity, so take shorter showers and don't leave the tap running while making woodoo.
28 minutes, 16 seconds
Number five, reuse, recycle, reuse, and recycle.
28 minutes, 23 seconds
Remember the other tips from my reduce, reuse, and recycle.
28 minutes, 29 seconds
When we recycle, we protect the earth that Allah trusted us to look after.
28 minutes, 37 seconds
Number six, walk or cycle when it's safe. It saves petrol, helps the environment and its sunnah to stay active.
28 minutes, 48 seconds
All of these small actions show gratitude to Allah and they help
28 minutes, 55 seconds
keep the earth clean for future generations.
28 minutes, 59 seconds
So even though I'm young, I can still make a difference and you can too.
29 minutes, 6 seconds
Inshallah I mean alhamdulillah Isa for sharing all of those tips and any of our listeners have any more tips that they
29 minutes, 14 seconds
would like to share that you would like to share um you can do so during the week on our social media pages at
29 minutes, 21 seconds
ivesovves.com i o v e z a m. We are on Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn,
29 minutes, 29 seconds
YouTube, Tik Tok as well as threads. Um that's very interesting points that he's brought up. I wanted to also say you
29 minutes, 38 seconds
know um we have I think touched on this topic about um the the the woo saving
29 minutes, 44 seconds
water during woo you know like not um switching off the tap before um uh while
29 minutes, 53 seconds
you while you're busy and you're not using the the water so that you're saving the water. But you also mentioned something about the tap having an a
30 minutes, 1 second
sensor so that only when you need the water your hand it goes under and then that's when it um puts through. But there's like other uh ways in which we
30 minutes, 9 seconds
can um make sure that you know mosques are more greener and sustainable um besides you know the solar panels
30 minutes, 17 seconds
there's also lead lighting and rainwater harvesting. I I read that you know in Turkey and um you know
30 minutes, 25 seconds
mosques in the UK and Indonesia have official eco mosque projects. So um
30 minutes, 33 seconds
but I think also um to to go on your point it's not only about making it green and energy efficient. It's also
30 minutes, 41 seconds
there's a lot of costs involved monthly costs for massagits. Um, and while we
30 minutes, 48 seconds
all want to contribute and we all, you know, want to uh keep the running costs of the massage going because I mean we use them.
30 minutes, 57 seconds
Um, we also want to reduce those costs because electricity and water is obviously the two highest costs of any
31 minutes, 3 seconds
building and especially a massage using it at least five times a day, sometimes more if there's, you know, like programs
31 minutes, 10 seconds
and stuff. Um, and you want to look at a design, a green design, you know, like
31 minutes, 17 seconds
like we spoke of this hotel verde um where they have um gray water used for flushing toilets. I mean, that's
31 minutes, 25 seconds
something that that we could definitely use, you know, in in massages um rain harvesting that you spoke about um
31 minutes, 33 seconds
installing LED lights or solar panels is obviously very expensive. It's a it's a costly exercise. You can use, you know, other ways, you know, like recycled
31 minutes, 41 seconds
building materials, natural ventilation instead of heavy air conditioning. Um, a skylight to bring in natural light.
31 minutes, 50 seconds
Yes, skylights as well. Green roofs or gardens around the masid.
31 minutes, 54 seconds
Uh, trees planted to provide shade and reduce heat. And then like you mentioned, lead lighting that uses um
32 minutes, 1 second
far less electricity. Um, what do you think? Maybe motion sensing sensing lights in um less used areas.
32 minutes, 10 seconds
Yeah, definitely.
32 minutes, 11 seconds
I know there are in there are some places I know um they do have motion senses sensing lights in the bathroom
32 minutes, 18 seconds
areas. Um I know this because um when you take too long then the light goes off.
32 minutes, 26 seconds
It gets a bit scary though. birthday.
32 minutes, 28 seconds
Yeah. Um timers for outdoor lighting, maybe smart energy meters.
32 minutes, 35 seconds
Yeah. You know, all of those um energy saving methods.
32 minutes, 40 seconds
But but not only that, I think um also as a community we should have more um
32 minutes, 48 seconds
talks around this. That is it's it's so good that you mention that cuz I was just about to say um environmental education from the midr you know like go
32 minutes, 57 seconds
go go like you said talks or workshops on recycling and climate awareness community tree planting days um
33 minutes, 5 seconds
programs cleanup programs youth eco clubs our our masids should you know try and be more community involved and and
33 minutes, 14 seconds
have like all of these things have have these programs have these things that help our um Muslim especially the youth
33 minutes, 23 seconds
Muslims to understand more you know knowledge is power yeah but not only that I think just helping the environment as a whole um
33 minutes, 32 seconds
you know like it's empowering everybody yeah so what you learn there and and and practice there you can bring home as
33 minutes, 39 seconds
well you can go and out there and teach others as well you know also as as you are practicing other people are noticing and they will also learn from you.
33 minutes, 52 seconds
Yeah. So you just you you you have these things people go out and they start implementing it and inshallah we'll have
34 minutes
a a better place to live in. Yes.
34 minutes, 7 seconds
Yeah. So that that's also something that I mentioned about stewardship a long not a long time ago but a few programs back you know like taking accountability.
34 minutes, 16 seconds
What is stewardship again? Taking accountability.
34 minutes, 19 seconds
So, so basically looking after um what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given us. Alhamdulillah. Yeah.
34 minutes, 26 seconds
And that's this earth. Uh we've been blessed with so many things and we just we don't um we take for
34 minutes, 34 seconds
granted basically. Um so we need to take more accountability and responsibility and um yeah be
34 minutes, 42 seconds
basically caretakers of our earth so that it helps not just us but our future generations as well and um yeah that
34 minutes, 53 seconds
will reflect the Islamic values and morals that we are supposed to have.
34 minutes, 57 seconds
Yeah. And I think also um you know if we start doing this small things at the mids and start implementing it just in
35 minutes, 5 seconds
our communities in our surrounding communities I mean there's massagits in in every community right at least one
35 minutes, 12 seconds
and if it starts there and we just start in those communities we can we can start
35 minutes, 19 seconds
building bigger things and doing more for South Africa and for the world at Inshallah.
35 minutes, 29 seconds
All good points inshallah. I mean yes shukran to you to Issa for the tips and
35 minutes, 37 seconds
um to your listeners you are always welcome to send through your tips your thoughts and opinions and um like we
35 minutes, 45 seconds
said you can share it during the week to us on our social media pages. Um, thank you to Rafilware
35 minutes, 54 seconds
for sharing Toyota's initiatives and once again to our dear listeners for joining us on this lovely Sunday
36 minutes, 2 seconds
afternoon. Join us every Sunday inshallah from 2 to 3:00 p.m. right here on Radio Islam International. From myself, Nabiha, from Zad, and from Issa.
