to dear listeners. It's just past 100 p.m. right here in South Africa and it's our favorite day of the week, Yom Aad.

It's the 25th day of Ramadan, 1447 ah alhamdulillah.
0:28

and it corresponds to Sunday the 15th of March 2026.

I am Ziad Plachies and with me are my co-hosts Nabia and Issa Plachis. Welcome to Level Up where we listen, learn and
0:42

grow inshallah with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's guidance and we break down the week's news and talk about what really
0:48
48 seconds
matters to young Muslims today. Our WhatsApp line is open. The number is 0727861548.

You can call in on 0185472 or you can DM us on social media. We at
1:06
1 minute, 6 seconds
i love that's ov zoom m. We are on Instagram, Facebook x, LinkedIn,
1:15
1 minute, 15 seconds
YouTube, Tik Tok threads and upscrolled.
1:20
1 minute, 20 seconds
So a lot has happened this week. Um, a lot of things in the news, but I think the most important thing that we should
1:27
1 minute, 27 seconds
be focusing on this week is the last 10 days of Ramadan.
1:32
1 minute, 32 seconds
Let's reflect on the month. Um, what we've achieved. We started the month with lots of goals, I'm sure, that we
1:40
1 minute, 40 seconds
wanted to achieve during the month. And alhamdulillah, some of us have achieved our goals. Some of us have exceeded our
1:46
1 minute, 46 seconds
goals. But for those of us who haven't, we shouldn't be despondent because
1:52
1 minute, 52 seconds
Ramadan went so quickly and um you know sometimes we we want to do things but uh
2:00
2 minutes
there's lots of other things that happen during the month. Um and we might have
2:07
2 minutes, 7 seconds
just you know like done we might think it's something small but maybe we broke a habit. Maybe it's uh we stopped idle
2:14
2 minutes, 14 seconds
talk or backbiting and we should continue and try and continue these and carry these values over uh after Ramadan
2:23
2 minutes, 23 seconds
inshallah. But one of the things that um a lot of us do during the month of Ramadan is give charity and charity is
2:32
2 minutes, 32 seconds
not only uh exclusive to Ramadan. And we had the pleasure of listening to Molana
2:40
2 minutes, 40 seconds
Abdul Rahman Ley at the Nisamia Masid on Friday for Juma. And he kind of packaged
2:47
2 minutes, 47 seconds
the whole thing well. And I I spoke to him afterwards and I said, "Please could you either send us a recording or could
2:54
2 minutes, 54 seconds
we with your permission use the um lecture that you have spoken about about Zaka so that our listeners could also benefit from it inshallah. Subhan Allah.
3:06
3 minutes, 6 seconds
Alhamdulillah. He said that no problem.
3:10
3 minutes, 10 seconds
He sent us the recording for the Friday lecture and said, "Bismillah." So, let's take a listen to what Molana Abdul
3:17
3 minutes, 17 seconds
Rahman Ley had to say at the Friday Jum lecture at Nisamia Masid.
3:29
3 minutes, 29 seconds
Alhamdulillah.
3:51
3 minutes, 51 seconds
Beloved brothers and elders fathers, mothers and sisters, after having greeted each other in a manner taught to us by Mustafa Muhammad
4:00
4 minutes
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, we remind ourselves to show gratitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for blessing us with the opportunity of witnessing this
4:08
4 minutes, 8 seconds
beautiful month of Ramadan. More than twothirds of the month has passed already. Subhan Allah. And we need to
4:15
4 minutes, 15 seconds
evaluate how we have spent our Ramadan against the Ramadan of Habibi Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
4:23
4 minutes, 23 seconds
With that being said, we send abandoned and salawat upon Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam who served as
4:30
4 minutes, 30 seconds
the best of examples for us in every situation.
4:35
4 minutes, 35 seconds
Subhan Allah. Under every constraint, in times of joy and happiness, in aspects of our worship as well as in times of
4:43
4 minutes, 43 seconds
challenge. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to seek to emulate everything that he sallallahu alaihi wasallam did
4:50
4 minutes, 50 seconds
so that inshallah we will be able to attain eternal felicity. The verse of Quran that I have recited before you is
5:00
5 minutes
a verse when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala speaks of some of the categories of people who are eligible recipients of
5:08
5 minutes, 8 seconds
charity but more specifically the eligible recipients of a very specific type of charity and that being zakat. I
5:16
5 minutes, 16 seconds
appreciate I acknowledge that as I have mentioned twothirds of the month of Ramadan have passed. We also place in record that Ramadan is not the only month in which we should be charitable.
5:28
5 minutes, 28 seconds
But we appreciate from the hadith of Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam that this was the month in which he sallallahu alaihi wasallam was
5:36
5 minutes, 36 seconds
the most charitable. So albeit that he was synonymous with being generous and charitable. This was the month in which
5:44
5 minutes, 44 seconds
he sallallahu alaihi wasallam expended most of his charity.
5:49
5 minutes, 49 seconds
That being said, the idea of discharging of zaka is not exclusive to the month of Ramadan.
5:57
5 minutes, 57 seconds
But maybe because we are generally premised on the Gregorian calendar, we find it somewhat easier to link our zaka
6:07
6 minutes, 7 seconds
to Ramadan because that's the one point in the lunar hij calendar when subhan Allah we all acknowledge fully.
6:16
6 minutes, 16 seconds
I recall having spent a jum subhan allah with our august jar in congregation some
6:23
6 minutes, 23 seconds
363 days ago. So it was at the midpoint of last Ramadan that we shared a jum and
6:30
6 minutes, 30 seconds
in that jum we reflected on a few things. I'm sure you've attended so many jumas since then a whole year's worth
6:38
6 minutes, 38 seconds
that maybe you may not be able to recall. Nonetheless, I'll recount two or three of them and then inshallah we have
6:45
6 minutes, 45 seconds
our discussion surrounding certain aspects related to zaka.
6:51
6 minutes, 51 seconds
So last Ramadan, Allah gave us a beautiful opportunity where for taking 5 days leave we could secure
6:59
6 minutes, 59 seconds
10 days in the house of Allah subhanahu wa tala. And at that point I mentioned that one needed to have the ability to spot a good deal.
7:08
7 minutes, 8 seconds
We don't have the same deal this year.
7:10
7 minutes, 10 seconds
Also, we're a little bit late because we already subhan Allah into the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan.
7:16
7 minutes, 16 seconds
The other was the idea we reflected on Ramadan from a macro perspective appreciating
7:23
7 minutes, 23 seconds
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants us as the ummah to observe Ramadan throughout the globe at exactly the same
7:30
7 minutes, 30 seconds
time. Now I want to build on that today and make us appreciate that in a global
7:36
7 minutes, 36 seconds
population of some 8.3 billion 2.3 billion of those are Muslim
7:45
7 minutes, 45 seconds
which means as we observe Jum today a quarter of the world's population
7:53
7 minutes, 53 seconds
subhan Allah are fasting the moment of silence for us to allow
8:02
8 minutes, 2 seconds
that thought to settle that one in every four people walking on the face of the earth is your brother and sister Allah.
8:13
8 minutes, 13 seconds
Now we want to take that into the discussion surrounding zaka and charity by extension.
8:25
8 minutes, 25 seconds
So there may be few of us and I say few because it's actually a dua. There may be a very select few of us
8:33
8 minutes, 33 seconds
who are not liable to pay zaka. That is a dua for you in itself. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make us all be
8:41
8 minutes, 41 seconds
amongst those who are liable to pay zaka. Say amen. That means that we are making dua that Allah subhanahu wa
8:48
8 minutes, 48 seconds
ta'ala grant you all lots of wealth. Now say amen.
8:52
8 minutes, 52 seconds
Good. So, subhan Allah, with a global population or with 25% of the global population, a little bit more than 25%
9:01
9 minutes, 1 second
of the global population being Muslim, how much of zaka do you think the ummah pays annually?
9:13
9 minutes, 13 seconds
So there's no AFS audited financial statements to indicate how much of zaka has been collected and how much of zaka
9:21
9 minutes, 21 seconds
has been dispersed just by nature of many dynamics and the intricacies and the complexities of us living in
9:28
9 minutes, 28 seconds
different lands and being governed by different laws etc etc. But some
9:35
9 minutes, 35 seconds
somewhat more accurate estimates point to global zaka being close to $1 trillion.
9:51
9 minutes, 51 seconds
And I want us to think of what can be the impact of $1 trillion
9:57
9 minutes, 57 seconds
directed to any particular cause. Now let's bring in these categories of zaka or those who are eligible to receive
10:06
10 minutes, 6 seconds
zaka. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says verily your verily your zaka is for the
10:14
10 minutes, 14 seconds
fukar. Now we appreciate subhan Allah this concept of and today's modern day
10:21
10 minutes, 21 seconds
living we would speak about people who are somewhat below the poverty line.
10:25
10 minutes, 25 seconds
Appreciating that from our fick we have a clear differentiation in terms of who is liable to pay zaka and who is eligible to receive zaka by virtue of
10:34
10 minutes, 34 seconds
the amount regarded as nis the minimum threshold. Okay.
10:40
10 minutes, 40 seconds
So this subhan allah we are well aware of that one of the categories of zaka would be those who are regarded as poor.
10:51
10 minutes, 51 seconds
Now in discussing the poor I want to introduce to us what is the macro objective of zaka. So we see it as an obligation.
11:00
11 minutes
It's one of the foundational pillars of giving expression to our Islam.
11:07
11 minutes, 7 seconds
But what is the objective?
11:10
11 minutes, 10 seconds
We appreciate subhan Allah as we learn from the hadith of Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam that some of the consequences of zaka would be that
11:18
11 minutes, 18 seconds
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala purifies our wealth. It becomes a means of growth in our wealth.
11:28
11 minutes, 28 seconds
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has stopped us from usually an interest but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has promised us
11:34
11 minutes, 34 seconds
increase by virtue of extending charity to the extent that the growth strategy of a Muslim should be the more I give in
11:43
11 minutes, 43 seconds
Allah's way the more Allah will grant me is that just a statement I'm making Allah says
11:55
11 minutes, 55 seconds
so Allah uses the balance the language the voca vocabulary, the rhetoric of trade. And Allah says, "Indeed, I have
12:02
12 minutes, 2 seconds
purchased from the believers themselves and their wealth in exchange for Jenna."
12:10
12 minutes, 10 seconds
The macro objective of zaka is to convert more of the ummah.
12:16
12 minutes, 16 seconds
I said the select few may be eligible to receive and inshallah our dua is that very soon they become liable to
12:24
12 minutes, 24 seconds
contribute. The macro objective of zaka is to convert more people from recipients to donors.
12:36
12 minutes, 36 seconds
Now it's important to understand this when you look at the different categories because by and large the manner in which
12:43
12 minutes, 43 seconds
we've discharged zaka is like oh someone is poor let me buy them a food hamper.
12:49
12 minutes, 49 seconds
That's an immediate need. It needs to be addressed. But coupled with this when we look at the rest of the categories of zaka we appreciate that zaka from a
12:58
12 minutes, 58 seconds
macro objective subhan allah seeks to move people away from what the hadith refers to as the lower hand to the upper
13:06
13 minutes, 6 seconds
hand from to be the upper hand the hand that is giving
13:14
13 minutes, 14 seconds
so there's a very big developmental angle subhan allah in terms of zak Okay,
13:23
13 minutes, 23 seconds
time not allowing us to spend too much of time there. Let's go to some of the other categories.
13:31
13 minutes, 31 seconds
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala refers very distinctly and clearly and differentiates between those who are poor and those who are needy.
13:41
13 minutes, 41 seconds
At times someone may not be poor meaning they are not below the poverty line meaning that they have more than the
13:50
13 minutes, 50 seconds
minimum threshold in but they may still be needy once again talks to the developmental
13:57
13 minutes, 57 seconds
angle of zaka. So someone is just battling to get by scraping subhan allah through week upon week through month
14:04
14 minutes, 4 seconds
upon month they somewhat become with certain guard rails one of the categories that are eligible to receive
14:12
14 minutes, 12 seconds
zaka because of the macro objective to convert more people from recipients to donors
14:21
14 minutes, 21 seconds
as the third category those people whose primary vocation Subhan Allah. The way in which they
14:30
14 minutes, 30 seconds
spend all of their productive day is in the collection and distribution of zaka.
14:36
14 minutes, 36 seconds
This is a third category of people who are entitled subhan Allah to the wealth of zaka. Once again with guardrails. It
14:44
14 minutes, 44 seconds
does not mean that those institutes, charitable organizations, public benefit organizations, nonprofit organizations
14:52
14 minutes, 52 seconds
can utilize your zaka for administrative expenses. No, it will go towards salaries. But salaries particularly for
15:00
15 minutes
the people whose core function is the collection. Subhan Allah. and the dispersement of zak
15:09
15 minutes, 9 seconds
as a category that in a fixed sense. So let me translate and those whose hearts are inclined
15:18
15 minutes, 18 seconds
towards Islam which shows that there may be differing opinions between between and which shows
15:26
15 minutes, 26 seconds
that as a category and we're talking somewhat theoretical now as a category subhan Allah within certain guard rails
15:36
15 minutes, 36 seconds
zaka could be used for certain activities initiatives projects of people who are very close to coming into
15:44
15 minutes, 44 seconds
the way of Islam. Once again, a developmental angle, a developmental angle not restricted only to this
15:53
15 minutes, 53 seconds
transient temporal life of this world, but a developmental angle surrounding worrying and having a concern about the
16:00
16 minutes
welfare of every human citizen of the globe with regards to the
16:09
16 minutes, 9 seconds
and for the freeing of nets.
16:13
16 minutes, 13 seconds
So in classical this referred to the very early times when subhan Allah zak could be used to
16:22
16 minutes, 22 seconds
purchase the freedom of those who were in captivity.
16:28
16 minutes, 28 seconds
Whilst today some of the fukah and jurists under the umbrella the guise of this
16:36
16 minutes, 36 seconds
category ask the question are not people today engulfed in
16:44
16 minutes, 44 seconds
economic and financial slavery also within certain guardrails a
16:53
16 minutes, 53 seconds
category subhan allah that could be employed utilized an avenue that could be employed and utilized with zaka funds
17:01
17 minutes, 1 second
to to move people out of economic slavery. We come back to the verse of Quran or phrase from the verse I mentioned.
17:12
17 minutes, 12 seconds
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala having frowned and declared war on those who are involved in usury in interest and Allah
17:21
17 minutes, 21 seconds
subhanahu wa ta'ala having promised growth in charity.
17:31
17 minutes, 31 seconds
So it may be that there are certain people who just based on a current cash flow situation find themselves in debt albeit that they are not poor.
17:42
17 minutes, 42 seconds
Neither are they needy. They also become a category of people who are entitled and eligible to receive zaka.
17:51
17 minutes, 51 seconds
It shows that when a community has the correct understanding of zaka and appreciates a certain individual who
18:01
18 minutes, 1 second
finds himself in debt not due to negligence then zaka could be used to settle his
18:08
18 minutes, 8 seconds
debt so that that particular person for argument's sake who has an entrepreneurial flare may once again be
18:17
18 minutes, 17 seconds
able to start creating stimulation in the economy.
18:21
18 minutes, 21 seconds
Which would mean what? That is not only stimulation for him to be self sustaining but it creates employment for
18:28
18 minutes, 28 seconds
other people and it creates the ability of other people being able to earn and look after their families. We go to the
18:36
18 minutes, 36 seconds
macro objective of zak once again which is to convert more people from recipients subhan allah to donors
18:48
18 minutes, 48 seconds
and those who are out in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
18:55
18 minutes, 55 seconds
So two examples of those who are regarded as being out in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. One of them
19:02
19 minutes, 2 seconds
would be the person who is subhan Allah undertaking studies. And when we talk about studies, I think in the previous
19:08
19 minutes, 8 seconds
Jyum we had reflected we had reflected on the idea of subhan Allah all knowledge stems from Allah subhanahu wa
19:16
19 minutes, 16 seconds
ta'ala. Albeit that there is an added level of prominence and preference given to the revealed sciences from Quran and
19:24
19 minutes, 24 seconds
hadith etc. But also many of the applied sciences are not far and the pursuit of them are not far from being regarded as
19:33
19 minutes, 33 seconds
the worship of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. any studies undertaken to uplift the community and society and to fulfill
19:42
19 minutes, 42 seconds
subhan Allah your responsibility as the vice of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and the followers of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam could come under the
19:51
19 minutes, 51 seconds
ambit of being in the path of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and naturally the other category
19:58
19 minutes, 58 seconds
is one that comes to our mind when we refer to those who are actively striving
20:06
20 minutes, 6 seconds
Yes, many times on the battlefield at the forefront and the cold face of protecting Muhammad Allah. But that in
20:14
20 minutes, 14 seconds
the beautiful month of Ramadan at the time of Jum, Subhan Allah, our hearts pour forth with dua for our brothers and sisters in many of the lands where they
20:23
20 minutes, 23 seconds
are being oppressed and we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to grant ease in their situations. And we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to grant liberation
20:31
20 minutes, 31 seconds
and more particularly for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to grant liberation to our brothers and sisters in Philistine appreciating that this is a very sore
20:40
20 minutes, 40 seconds
point in the history of the um of Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam for in all of our lived experience this is arguably the first
20:47
20 minutes, 47 seconds
time when J hasn't been performed in the actual masid mas a and neither hasawi
20:58
20 minutes, 58 seconds
prayers being observed every night where people were freely able to access the masid. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
21:05
21 minutes, 5 seconds
allow us to see masjid a liberated in our lifetimes and as we gather in mass in our beautiful masid. Subhan Allah.
21:13
21 minutes, 13 seconds
May Allah grant us the opportunity of visiting a in and out of the month of Ramadan.
21:20
21 minutes, 20 seconds
And the last of the categories the way farer the one who finds himself distanced from his wealth which he may
21:29
21 minutes, 29 seconds
have allowed store of back home but finds himself in a distant land and is unable subhan allah to access his wealth
21:37
21 minutes, 37 seconds
to see to his daily needs. This is also a category of person who is eligible for zaka. Now I appreciate we've got just
21:44
21 minutes, 44 seconds
two minutes remaining and I want to once again call on something that we shared 363 days ago. Appreciating this time we
21:53
21 minutes, 53 seconds
are some five or 6 days from the end of the month of Ramadan. Other than the obligatory responsibility of discharging
22:02
22 minutes, 2 seconds
of zaka after one has held nisab for a period of an entire year. Each and every one of us as citizens of the um of
22:11
22 minutes, 11 seconds
Mustafa Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam 2.3 million in the global population upwards of conservatively 2
22:19
22 minutes, 19 seconds
million in the South African population are all duty bound to give what is referred to as
22:27
22 minutes, 27 seconds
the charity that we give because Allah has given us the opportunity of witnessing the month of Ramadan with the objective of making sure that those You
22:37
22 minutes, 37 seconds
who are currently eligible to receive zaka would also be able to have a sense of and joy and pleasure and enjoyment on the day of 8.
22:49
22 minutes, 49 seconds
What's the amount? A little bit more than 35 rs per person that lives in your household
22:57
22 minutes, 57 seconds
with a conservative estimate of 2 million Muslims.
23:02
23 minutes, 2 seconds
That subhan Allah brings us to what tally?
23:08
23 minutes, 8 seconds
Some 70 million rand that will be discharged on one day to
23:16
23 minutes, 16 seconds
bring happiness and joy. Subhan Allah in the population. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to appreciate that this
23:23
23 minutes, 23 seconds
is an obligation upon us. And the macro impact that I just used the anecdote of
23:30
23 minutes, 30 seconds
zakat but the macro impact of what one trillion US dollars could bring to a
23:37
23 minutes, 37 seconds
global population appreciating the macro objective of the month of Ramadan is that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants all
23:45
23 minutes, 45 seconds
of us once a year to have an heightened awareness around what?
23:53
23 minutes, 53 seconds
around the food security needs of the global population. That's another reason why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala makes it
24:00
24 minutes
that we all fast at exactly the same time. Time having passed. Subhan Allah.
24:05
24 minutes, 5 seconds
We close with a verse of Quran where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala encourages us towards the urgency of spending
24:15
24 minutes, 15 seconds
where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants us to spend of his wealth
24:23
24 minutes, 23 seconds
before a day will come
24:32
24 minutes, 32 seconds
before a day will come when no transaction And no friendship will be able to avail you. And what will be the plea of your heart?
24:47
24 minutes, 47 seconds
Oh Allah, can you just send me back to the dy for a short period of time
24:55
24 minutes, 55 seconds
so that I may be able to give some charity and perhaps be counted amongst those who are righteous. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to
25:02
25 minutes, 2 seconds
appreciate the urgency of giving in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. May giving in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala become part of our growth
25:10
25 minutes, 10 seconds
strategy. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala grant you what remains of the rest of the month of Ramadan is one that is blessed in time in value in spiritual growth and also in your economic growth.
25:21
25 minutes, 21 seconds
And may the day of Eid inshallah be a day of happiness and also remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala coupled with
25:30
25 minutes, 30 seconds
the obedience of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and a remembrance of those who are less fortunate than us. May Allah
25:36
25 minutes, 36 seconds
grant us all for the very informative talk. I really learned a lot. Alhamdulillah.

26:57
26 minutes, 57 seconds
And the number is 0727861548 or you can call in on 011854722
27:06
27 minutes, 6 seconds
or you can even DM us on at.com that's i l o v e z a c o m. Alhamdulillah that
27:14
27 minutes, 14 seconds
lecture from molana abdahman lei was really so enlightening. There's so many people who are eligible for receiving
27:23
27 minutes, 23 seconds
zaka. But and this is what I like the most and it's most important. It's so important the fact that it was ordained
27:31
27 minutes, 31 seconds
for us because we are supposed to be helping others not just keeping them where they are you know to to level the
27:39
27 minutes, 39 seconds
playing field so to speak you know for the receiver to inshallah become a donor or a contributor you know to make sure
27:47
27 minutes, 47 seconds
that we are equal as we were always taught that we are supposed to be that no person is better or greater than another human being.
27:56
27 minutes, 56 seconds
Yes. Alhamdulillah. I think just um you know when I when I heard it on at Juma
28:04
28 minutes, 4 seconds
and I I went to Molana afterwards and I said you know the way it was presented the the flow the everything you know the
28:13
28 minutes, 13 seconds
youngsters would say it's on point and do they still say that now though? I'm not sure but um you know the the fact
28:23
28 minutes, 23 seconds
that he mentioned each category and how we should move from the lower hand to
28:30
28 minutes, 30 seconds
the upper hand that we should make dua that if we are not contributing that we become contributors inshallah
28:39
28 minutes, 39 seconds
and that we don't stay um you know in in one position we move forward. This is
28:46
28 minutes, 46 seconds
what we're talking about. Listen, learn, and grow. Inshallah, level up. This is this is exactly it.
28:53
28 minutes, 53 seconds
And Islam is so easy. And it's it's, you know, it's for everybody.
29:01
29 minutes, 1 second
There you have a person like you said that has lots of money overseas but finds themselves in a land where they
29:10
29 minutes, 10 seconds
don't have access to it. And this is exactly what's happening now. There's uh the conflict now in the Middle East.
29:18
29 minutes, 18 seconds
People could not have access to funds. They could be living in another country.
29:22
29 minutes, 22 seconds
Now they're stuck. Now they're eligible for zakat. And you know also the fact that he mentioned poor and needy.
29:32
29 minutes, 32 seconds
It's not just the just one you're not just poor and needy. There is the poor and then there is the needy. There's two categories already.
29:41
29 minutes, 41 seconds
Yeah. People just think that poor and needy is one word, you know, and that's the people that are below the bread line
29:49
29 minutes, 49 seconds
and those are the only people that are zakatable. That's what they think. Yes.
29:53
29 minutes, 53 seconds
Yes. And Molana mentioned and and broke it down and said there's poor and then there's needy. And if you didn't listen
30:01
30 minutes, 1 second
to it, please go back. If you miss that part, please go back and listen to the lecture. It is most beneficial
30:09
30 minutes, 9 seconds
especially in the last 10 days. You want to not only um do a lot of ibada but you want to gain a lot of knowledge that
30:18
30 minutes, 18 seconds
will be beneficial and this lecture alhamdulillah is very beneficial. So if you if you missed it it will be on S
30:26
30 minutes, 26 seconds
soundcloud radio Islam international Soundcloud inshallah we will share it as well. It will be on our website.com.
30:33
30 minutes, 33 seconds
We'll have a video uploaded to YouTube inshallah. So it will be widely spread.
30:37
30 minutes, 37 seconds
So uh just go back. I don't want to go over it because I don't want to spoil what Molana said. He he put everything
30:46
30 minutes, 46 seconds
perfectly. Alhamdulillah. And I think let's let's leave it at that.
30:49
30 minutes, 49 seconds
Yes. Alhamdulillah. I just wanted to mention that he also said that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was more generous during Ramadan. So he was generous throughout the year. Yes.
30:59
30 minutes, 59 seconds
But more so during Ramadan. I'm just going to leave it at that.
31:02
31 minutes, 2 seconds
Yes. something that that we always say that charity is not he mentioned it charity is not exclusive to Ramadan zakat is not exclusive to Ramadan and
31:10
31 minutes, 10 seconds
that that we must take away with us and remember that's one of the values that we should take away with us for Ramadan
31:17
31 minutes, 17 seconds
is that we continue our charitable acts outside of Ramadan because there are people that are eligible for zakat
31:25
31 minutes, 25 seconds
outside of Ramadan who are poor who are needy you know who are wayfairers is and
31:32
31 minutes, 32 seconds
you know we need to carry on contributing and carry on doing these charitable acts after Ramadan inshallah.
31:40
31 minutes, 40 seconds
Inshallah amen. Yes. So you you mentioned one of the values. So I'm just going to also you know like continue with that you know because the Ramadan
31:48
31 minutes, 48 seconds
effect shouldn't just end with Eid you know it shouldn't end on the 29th or 30th of Ramadan. So um yeah it's it's
31:56
31 minutes, 56 seconds
that uh you know making sure that you continue with with your ibadi continue with your charity. Let me just touch on maybe like four points or so you know
32:05
32 minutes, 5 seconds
that we can four values that we can take with us from Ramadan throughout the year inshallah. So there's that the power of
32:13
32 minutes, 13 seconds
the small and the consistent you know where during Ramadan so you might give a little charity daily or um let's not
32:22
32 minutes, 22 seconds
just speak about charity it's also read a few pages of the Quran every night maybe you you do that maybe even after
32:29
32 minutes, 29 seconds
fud or every night after or something like that so let's take that with us you
32:36
32 minutes, 36 seconds
know keep a micro habit of charity a micro uh I mean as in a small habit of charity. Even if it's just giving a
32:44
32 minutes, 44 seconds
bottle of water daily or if it's reading at least one page a day of Quran
32:51
32 minutes, 51 seconds
throughout the year. There are 365 days a year. Read you know one page a day inshallah. The prophet
32:58
32 minutes, 58 seconds
sallallahu alaihi wasallam said the most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently even if they are small.
33:08
33 minutes, 8 seconds
Alhamdulillah.
33:09
33 minutes, 9 seconds
Alhamdulillah. And then there's the mindfulness and discipline, the taqua.
33:14
33 minutes, 14 seconds
So we know that, you know, fasting and it's not just about not eating from dawn until dusk. It's the ultimate exercise in self-control.
33:24
33 minutes, 24 seconds
You know, it proves you can resist your impulses for a higher purpose. So we know that lying and gossiping and
33:33
33 minutes, 33 seconds
backbiting and anger actually nullifies the fast. you know it puts like a black dot on our good deeds and taints it. So
33:42
33 minutes, 42 seconds
we always we have to have to have to try and make sure that we we control oursel from idle talk and backbiting during the
33:50
33 minutes, 50 seconds
fast. So use this discipline to curb those negative habits before you carry on. I think also the negative habits, you know, lots of
33:59
33 minutes, 59 seconds
people say after Ramadan I'll do the I'll continue my Netflix series after Ramadan or you know all the things that
34:08
34 minutes, 8 seconds
you've put on hold for Ramadan but now you can't wait to get back to those bad habits after Ramadan. And I think if we
34:17
34 minutes, 17 seconds
can try with that discipline also you know you manage to you know not consume
34:24
34 minutes, 24 seconds
all these uh negative things during Ramadan. So you know make an effort make an effort
34:31
34 minutes, 31 seconds
after Ramadan. We're not saying you know cold.
34:35
34 minutes, 35 seconds
Yeah. Completely do it because I mean everybody has their own pace. Everybody has their own journey and you know their
34:43
34 minutes, 43 seconds
time will come when when they go onto uh the straight path. We can't force everybody to you know go onto the
34:51
34 minutes, 51 seconds
straight path. We want to encourage them and want to but if you do that and that's the whole thing of Ramadan is
34:58
34 minutes, 58 seconds
that you know we do these things to reset our body to get rid of those bad
35:04
35 minutes, 4 seconds
habits to break those bad habits and that that's one of the things about
35:11
35 minutes, 11 seconds
salah is that it's not just a salah it's we take a break we take a pause when we
35:18
35 minutes, 18 seconds
reading after the two after the four we um to reflect on what we've read, you
35:25
35 minutes, 25 seconds
know, to to just let uh like Issa mentioned the other day, Quran feeds our soul. So just for our soul to to um
35:36
35 minutes, 36 seconds
consume that what which we have read and you know to encompass our body so that
35:42
35 minutes, 42 seconds
we can continue on the spiritual journey inshallah.
35:46
35 minutes, 46 seconds
Inshallah. I mean, I want to add that, you know, maybe we should even try and make an effort to read um the English translation of everything that we've
35:55
35 minutes, 55 seconds
been reading in the Quran. So, it also helps us to understand more and, you know, know more exactly what we're saying like you said, you know, and take
36:04
36 minutes, 4 seconds
that pause and reflect. So, that'll maybe help us to reflect. But I also like the fact that you mentioned that because I I saw something recently where
36:12
36 minutes, 12 seconds
it said that the some somewhere where was it they had like um tarawi was like almost like a 2 or 3 hour a night thing.
36:23
36 minutes, 23 seconds
Yes. So four 4 hours. Oh 4 hours.
36:26
36 minutes, 26 seconds
Yes. Uh I think it was somewhere in Morocco or something.
36:30
36 minutes, 30 seconds
I'm not sure. They actually stopped to have a tea break and they have tea and biscuits because the the the molana that was
36:36
36 minutes, 36 seconds
leading the tarawi was actually uh explaining everything before they read
36:43
36 minutes, 43 seconds
in English and Arabic to um the the congregation and telling them this is what we're
36:52
36 minutes, 52 seconds
going to read so that they would understand that this is what we're about to read so that they could appreciate what they about to read. you know, don't
37:00
37 minutes
just like rush through it because we need to finish a katham in 10 days or 15 days. You know, that's become the trend now that we we finish a katham now. Now
37:09
37 minutes, 9 seconds
we can just uh what masid hop as they call it. And that's not that's I don't
37:16
37 minutes, 16 seconds
think that's the essence of the reason why we we do it. It's not to to complete so many in the month. It's to
37:24
37 minutes, 24 seconds
understand, to appreciate and to learn more.
37:29
37 minutes, 29 seconds
about the Quran inshallah. I mean and and Islam.
37:33
37 minutes, 33 seconds
Yes. Inshallah. I mean Yes. So we must just ma make sure that we maintain that focus that we develop during the month you know and carry it with us inshallah.
37:44
37 minutes, 44 seconds
Okay. So then we must develop empathy and community. So you know that's something that we think in uh Ramadan we
37:52
37 minutes, 52 seconds
make a point of doing. We break bread with others feeling the hunger of those less fortunate which builds a strong sense of social responsibility. So let's
38:01
38 minutes, 1 second
continue that to support local causes or check in on neighbors, friends and family during the year throughout the year and make that inshallah and make
38:09
38 minutes, 9 seconds
that spirit of the communityar be kept alive through regular family dinners or local volunteering. Obviously
38:17
38 minutes, 17 seconds
not, you know, you don't have to have ifar during the year, but I mean like family dinners, family lunches and so on. Inshallah
38:24
38 minutes, 24 seconds
is this still the six days of shaw intalar there as well.
38:29
38 minutes, 29 seconds
Inshallah and then I'm sure there's a lot more values, right? But um I think we need to end off soon. So I'm going to end off with this last one. Um
38:38
38 minutes, 38 seconds
intentionality nia. So in Ramadan we know that every action from eating to
38:45
38 minutes, 45 seconds
sleeping is done with the intention of pleasing Allah subhana wa ta'ala. So we should just carry this mindfulness into
38:53
38 minutes, 53 seconds
our work and daily chores every day reminding ourselves why we're doing a task and by doing that we can turn a mundane errand into an act of worship.
39:05
39 minutes, 5 seconds
Alhamdulillah.
