I'm Zad Plachis and with me are my co-hosts Nabia and Issa Plachis. Welcome to Level Up where we listen, learn, and
0:47

grow inshallah with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's guidance and we break down the week's news and talk about what really
0:53
53 seconds
matters to young Muslims today. Our WhatsApp line is open. The number is 0727861548.
1:03
1 minute, 3 seconds
You can call in on 0185472.
1:08
1 minute, 8 seconds
Or you can DM us on social media. We love.com. That's I L O V E Z A O M.
1:18
1 minute, 18 seconds
We're on Instagram, Facebook X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Tik Tok, threads, and upscrolled.
1:27
1 minute, 27 seconds
It's the second day of Eid.
1:30
1 minute, 30 seconds
Alhamdulillah in Mubarak to all our listeners. Um, we know that some people like some traditions, they even have
1:38
1 minute, 38 seconds
they celebrate three days of Eid. So, it it was Eid and then the two days after Eid. I don't know if it's because they,
1:45
1 minute, 45 seconds
you know, just continue eating two days afterwards or maybe some people
1:52
1 minute, 52 seconds
are taking this day off before they start shal fast because um I know some people don't like to um fast on weekends.
2:02
2 minutes, 2 seconds
Yes. Um, but also now talking about the three days of Eid, I think everybody was hoping that Eid would be on Friday so
2:10
2 minutes, 10 seconds
that they could take off, but maybe people took off on Monday as well. Um, so that they could get a long long weekend in and yesterday was a holiday as well.
2:19
2 minutes, 19 seconds
It was a public holiday.
2:21
2 minutes, 21 seconds
It was human rights day here in South Africa.
2:24
2 minutes, 24 seconds
Here in South Africa. But it was on a Saturday. So a lot of people who are in salaried jobs you know they they felt um
2:32
2 minutes, 32 seconds
what's the word deprived because if if a public holiday falls on a Sunday
2:39
2 minutes, 39 seconds
then Monday becomes uh the what's it substitute public holiday so you get that extra day and obviously if
2:47
2 minutes, 47 seconds
it's during the week like if it's a Friday that's even better if it's a Thursday or Wednesday mon Tuesday then
2:55
2 minutes, 55 seconds
you know it's a little bit of a But if it falls on a Saturday, it feels like um like a nonprize.
3:04
3 minutes, 4 seconds
Yeah. I think it's also awkward. Not awkward, but you know, having that holiday on a Saturday, right? Eid
3:12
3 minutes, 12 seconds
falling on the Saturday. There's still work in school next week because school only ends on Friday. The school term. The school term.
3:19
3 minutes, 19 seconds
But that's the the four school terms.
3:21
3 minutes, 21 seconds
And then the following week is the um the Easter in inverted commas weekend
3:30
3 minutes, 30 seconds
you know and um so you know like it's it's a little bit difficult because people I
3:38
3 minutes, 38 seconds
heard many people in the mid saying oh you didn't go to like say Nellplate or Middberg or whatever this weekend no we
3:45
3 minutes, 45 seconds
rather go to uh this place on that weekend because in 2 weeks time because it's a rush now. Uh because you Friday
3:54
3 minutes, 54 seconds
you were working, Monday you would have to be back at work and it it was a little bit different this year.
4:00
4 minutes
Yeah. Talking about different also Ramadan um this year felt um collectively it felt uh exhausting you
4:10
4 minutes, 10 seconds
know not like exhausting but a lot of people were very very exhausted.
4:15
4 minutes, 15 seconds
Yeah. I think and drained. It's uh we because we're moving into the longer days now and like
4:23
4 minutes, 23 seconds
we said when we mentioned you know when we first started fasting it was just before 7:00 and you know that whole
4:31
4 minutes, 31 seconds
mindset and even though we moved uh ifar moved like about say 30 minutes earlier
4:39
4 minutes, 39 seconds
it was just the the a lot of mashids kept Isha at the same time you know throughout out.
4:47
4 minutes, 47 seconds
So, you know, it it gave you that extra time between ifar and and Isha, you know, to do whatever you needed to
4:55
4 minutes, 55 seconds
do. But also, we were coming home late from from Tarawi. Um, and then if if you were lucky, 10:00 was early. Yeah.
5:06
5 minutes, 6 seconds
And then by the time you get home and get into bed and everything, it's already 11:00 and then you're waking up
5:12
5 minutes, 12 seconds
again 3:00, uh, a lot of the masids read at 3, you know. So,
5:21
5 minutes, 21 seconds
my watch actually used to tell me go to sleep because it was like, you're not you're not sleeping enough. And I think that's
5:29
5 minutes, 29 seconds
where everybody was like cuz some people were saying no we need eat on Friday because we tired and they weren't like tired of Ramadan because Ramadan is a beautiful month. Alhamdulillah.
5:38
5 minutes, 38 seconds
Alhamdulillah. And it's not even about the fasting because I spoke to a lot of people because I myself also you know
5:45
5 minutes, 45 seconds
the not eating the not drinking wasn't taking its toll on us. We weren't starving or we we weren't feeling hungry
5:53
5 minutes, 53 seconds
or thirsty. Alhamdulillah. But we were all just feeling very very tired.
5:59
5 minutes, 59 seconds
Yeah. Yeah. But um getting to your point of the Shaw, I know I I drifted a bit. You did.
6:07
6 minutes, 7 seconds
Um you were saying that uh yeah, people start fasting now. So Oh, hopefully everybody had a good rest this morning.
6:16
6 minutes, 16 seconds
Inshallah.
6:16
6 minutes, 16 seconds
Inshallah. I know after after Eid um everyone is exhausted like you said and
6:23
6 minutes, 23 seconds
then because today was a Sunday I think it also worked out perfectly that today was a Sunday and people could rest you know
6:31
6 minutes, 31 seconds
you think so so they wake up they read their f and go back to sleep yeah and they wake up now to listen to level up
6:38
6 minutes, 38 seconds
well to read do it first and then to listen to level up but yeah um so talking about shawal
6:46
6 minutes, 46 seconds
fasts you you had something that you wanted to mention.
6:51
6 minutes, 51 seconds
Okay. So yeah, you know that um we do fast, you know, six fasts inshallah and we try to make sure that we do it
6:59
6 minutes, 59 seconds
inshallah every year. And we've heard um you know talk that it it it if you complete the Ramadan fast then you do
7:07
7 minutes, 7 seconds
the six uh fast inshallah then it's as if you fasted the whole year. But I did see a hadith and something describing
7:15
7 minutes, 15 seconds
you know the hadith. So I'd like to say read something about that. Uh the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam has
7:22
7 minutes, 22 seconds
said whoever completes the fast of Ramadan then adds to them the fasts of six days in the month of Shawal it will
7:31
7 minutes, 31 seconds
carry the taw which is the reward of fasting for the whole year. This is from sahim muslim.
7:38
7 minutes, 38 seconds
So this hadith has described the the great reward of the six fasts in of this month of Shaw and the scholars have
7:46
7 minutes, 46 seconds
interpreted this hadith by saying that according to the recognized rules of Sharia every good deed is rewarded 10 times more thaw than thewab of its
7:54
7 minutes, 54 seconds
origin. Therefore the of 30 days of Ramadan amounts to thewab for 300 days.
8:01
8 minutes, 1 second
If the fasts of Ramadan are followed by six more fasts, they carry the thawab of 60 days more raising the aggregate
8:09
8 minutes, 9 seconds
thawab to 360 which is the number of days in the one year according to the Islamic calendar.
8:15
8 minutes, 15 seconds
So you know the Gregorian calendar has 365 and a quarter and the Islamic calendar is 360.
8:22
8 minutes, 22 seconds
Therefore, one should take this opportunity of acquiring such an enormous reward from almighty Allah. It is more preferable to start these fast
8:31
8 minutes, 31 seconds
from the second of shaal because you know it's um we are not allowed to fast on effort forbidden
8:37
8 minutes, 37 seconds
and eel at and um I think the 3 days after is if if I'm not mistaken. So there's
8:46
8 minutes, 46 seconds
five days that we're not supposed to fast. The two eat and three days after eh. Yeah. So from the second of shawal and keep fasting up to the seventh of
8:55
8 minutes, 55 seconds
shawal. However, if they are kept in other days, it is hoped that the requirement of the above hadith may also be fulfilled.
9:03
9 minutes, 3 seconds
So um I know a lot of people um don't manage to do it you know straight
9:12
9 minutes, 12 seconds
after that. I know some people try, you try and I I know my my late father used to try um to fast straight after Eid and then continuously for 6 days.
9:24
9 minutes, 24 seconds
Um but I mean a lot of people don't manage to uh you know fast consecutively
9:33
9 minutes, 33 seconds
for 6 days cuz like we said this year Ramadan we were really exhausted and maybe you know you want to regain your
9:42
9 minutes, 42 seconds
strength reg regain strength and um so I know some people will maybe um start on Monday
9:50
9 minutes, 50 seconds
and uh maybe do Monday to Thursday cuz they don't like the fast in a weekend or maybe they do Monday and Thursday.
10:00
10 minutes
Well, alhamdulillah, um, Allah has given me the strength and has allowed me for many years to complete the six days of
10:09
10 minutes, 9 seconds
Shawah. And may he make it easy for everyone, inshallah. I mean, and over the years, I've tried different ways,
10:17
10 minutes, 17 seconds
you know, like doing the six six consecutive days, which obviously means it's easier. you you've completed it and um
10:25
10 minutes, 25 seconds
it's done but also you you in the momentum of Ramadan anyway even though you had your break on Eid day then you start straight afterwards and
10:33
10 minutes, 33 seconds
then it's you know given the momentum and then I've tried the the Monday to Thursday as well you know just Mondays
10:41
10 minutes, 41 seconds
to Thursday so Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday four and then um the following week like not do the weekend Friday Saturday and Sunday so not do a weekend fast.
10:52
10 minutes, 52 seconds
Yeah. Which all which which actually becomes a little bit more difficult because because you've got the 3-day
10:59
10 minutes, 59 seconds
break, um it when you start again the next Monday, it's you it's a little bit
11:06
11 minutes, 6 seconds
difficult because the body is already adjusted now to you eating.
11:11
11 minutes, 11 seconds
Um and yeah, so and then I've tried the but that's not to say that it won't work for other people because everyone is
11:19
11 minutes, 19 seconds
different. Everyone has their body is different. Um their metabolism is different.
11:25
11 minutes, 25 seconds
Uh so you know and their their habits and their you know also work environment and you also have to see what works best
11:32
11 minutes, 32 seconds
for you because you don't want to push yourself and you know it's it's not about you know pushing yourself and it's
11:39
11 minutes, 39 seconds
not about you know trying to prove that you can do it while you're sick or or something like that. It's the
11:47
11 minutes, 47 seconds
intention of you know getting the reward. It's the to see how your body is. Yeah.
11:55
11 minutes, 55 seconds
Yeah. And then there's also the Monday to Monday and Thursday that I've tried.
12:00
12 minutes
So um just fasting on Monday and Thursday and the white days as well. it it I feel like it helps you continue the
12:10
12 minutes, 10 seconds
um Monday to Thursday fast out of Ramadan inshallah and you know hopefully inshallah the
12:17
12 minutes, 17 seconds
white days as well so you you have that momentum so your body gets used to to that break and it's uh scientifically
12:25
12 minutes, 25 seconds
proven medically proven that it's it's good for us to do the Monday to Thursday it's sunnah Monday and Thursday
12:32
12 minutes, 32 seconds
Monday and Thursday it's sunnah but also So um medically it's it's good because you're detoxing your body um you know
12:40
12 minutes, 40 seconds
every few days. So it like almost resets. So inshallah everybody who is listening and who's not listening who
12:49
12 minutes, 49 seconds
will listen later in listen later inshallah may Allah make it easy for you so that you can also complete the six days of shawah.
12:57
12 minutes, 57 seconds
And like uh we said um I think the hadith you know says that you should fast six days in Shaal but it doesn't
13:05
13 minutes, 5 seconds
say six days consecutively after Eid. So there is the entire month of Shawal. So
13:11
13 minutes, 11 seconds
take it easy if you you know you need to you know your body best and inshallah Allah make it easy for you even if you
13:18
13 minutes, 18 seconds
spread it throughout the month. May Allah make it easy for you to continue fasting throughout the year so that
13:26
13 minutes, 26 seconds
inshallah it becomes a habit. You know Monday and Thursday fast um the white days 13 14 and 15 or whenever you feel
13:34
13 minutes, 34 seconds
like fasting you know just for the for the sake of Allah for the to to gain the reward from Allah inshallah.
13:41
13 minutes, 41 seconds
Yeah. as long as you're doing everything for the pleasure of Allah and may you continue to um you know like we said last week carry the values and um you
13:51
13 minutes, 51 seconds
know whatever you were doing during Ramadan may you continue it throughout the year
13:58

15 minutes, 7 seconds
or you can even DM us on iilov.com that's I l o v e z a c o m.
15:14
15 minutes, 14 seconds
Yes. So we were talking about the six days of Shawal and I just remembered something um a few years ago I was
15:22
15 minutes, 22 seconds
fasting the six days of Shawal alhamdulillah and the the one of the days fell on a Friday and everybody was
15:31
15 minutes, 31 seconds
saying to me but it's a Friday it's Juma lunch and I was actually invited for Juma lunch and I said you know like can
15:39
15 minutes, 39 seconds
I you know maybe have a takeaway or something the thing is I'm going I need it for later, but I can't have it now. And it
15:47
15 minutes, 47 seconds
was like, but it's a Friday. How can you fast on a Friday? But the thing is, uh, sometimes you're in that groove, you know, like like you say, after Ramadan,
15:56
15 minutes, 56 seconds
and you don't want to just get it over and done with, um, you want to, you know, continue that because there's a certain
16:05
16 minutes, 5 seconds
peace um, and there's a certain uh, something that comes over you. you know, like people say it's N that they see, but there's I don't know how to explain it.
16:16
16 minutes, 16 seconds
And if you fast the six days of Shawal, especially, you know, straight after um you'll feel that that peace. And it I'm
16:24
16 minutes, 24 seconds
not going to lie, it is it is really tough. It is like you're fasting um a whole year. Um for some reason, I think
16:32
16 minutes, 32 seconds
there's more challenges after Ramadan in that six days than there is in the
16:39
16 minutes, 39 seconds
whole 30 days. Um but that's maybe a personal journey. I'm not sure.
16:43
16 minutes, 43 seconds
No, that's true. Even for me, you know, because as women, we have to make sure that we fast after Ramadan as well to keep up um with the fast that we missed.
16:53
16 minutes, 53 seconds
And a lot of us, you know, almost dread it because we feel like we, you know, when it's Ramadan, it's easier.
17:02
17 minutes, 2 seconds
everyone's fasting and sometimes we feel like oh we should just fast because we're not eat we we hardly eat anyway
17:11
17 minutes, 11 seconds
and then after Ramadan it's it's basically that effort but I mean you know if we like we said if we carry over
17:19
17 minutes, 19 seconds
that values to you know try throughout the year even if it's just Monday and Thursday uh even if it's just you know
17:28
17 minutes, 28 seconds
three days uh during the month or days even if it's just random days, you know, during the week that we are fasting
17:35
17 minutes, 35 seconds
during the year. Maybe um a lot of us try in winter because the days are shorter.
17:42
17 minutes, 42 seconds
But, you know, inshallah, it'll make it easier. But yes, the the fasts after Ramadan are somewhat more difficult, but I think it's because of that effort.
17:53
17 minutes, 53 seconds
But speaking of values, I wanted to say something before. Okay. The the last thing I just wanted to say is that um it it makes it
18:01
18 minutes, 1 second
a little bit easier nowadays because a lot of uh the mashed still give like zam and dates you know for the six days of
18:10
18 minutes, 10 seconds
shawal. So there is still that community that you know like help you to continue the six days of shaw.
18:17
18 minutes, 17 seconds
Oh inshallah that's very nice. Actually I don't know of any but um I mean you go to the masid all the masids often you
18:24
18 minutes, 24 seconds
travel to all the masids. So alhamdulillah you would know that I actually wanted to say you know like that sense of community is also you know
18:31
18 minutes, 31 seconds
the one thing that um a lot of people uh can feel in Ramadan and you know you get
18:38
18 minutes, 38 seconds
sad that after Ramadan somehow that sense of community doesn't
18:45
18 minutes, 45 seconds
um show as much and you know you were talking about the N also I I overheard someone say you you can just feel after
18:54
18 minutes, 54 seconds
the day the lifting from your face and they they but they feel you know
19:01
19 minutes, 1 second
they feel even more exhausted they feel even more tired and they just I don't know what it is but um may Allah help us
19:10
19 minutes, 10 seconds
to continue with you know whatever mercy and blessings he's brought to us in
19:17
19 minutes, 17 seconds
Ramadan to continue to show us throughout the year so that also we are able to continue um making an effort to
19:26
19 minutes, 26 seconds
throughout the year with the good values. But I actually wanted to say something about one of the values. Um
19:32
19 minutes, 32 seconds
you know a lot of us make sure that we read Quran during Ramadan. We you know some make many some try to at least read
19:42
19 minutes, 42 seconds
a page a day you know just to make sure that they are definitely reading the Quran as
19:49
19 minutes, 49 seconds
you know is the month on which the Quran was revealed.
19:53
19 minutes, 53 seconds
But I know of someone who actually makes a a Quran group as in throughout the year. It's almost like a reminder for
20:01
20 minutes, 1 second
them to read um you know Quran throughout the year not only in the month of Ramadan to whether it's just um
20:09
20 minutes, 9 seconds
a page a day or it's a Jew and for them to finish aam. So that's actually a very nice thing.
20:16
20 minutes, 16 seconds
Yeah. Alhamdulillah. It's a very nice thing for them to to use as a reminder, you know, um to continue that value of
20:25
20 minutes, 25 seconds
reading Quran throughout the year, inshallah. But you see, that's the thing is that there's so much positivity and there's so many things and I think this
20:34
20 minutes, 34 seconds
is another conversation for another day, but that we can use our you know, phones, um social media for things like
20:43
20 minutes, 43 seconds
this. This is definitely true because I mean um we hardly, you know, go on the phone or we or go on social media during
20:51
20 minutes, 51 seconds
Ramadan. Well, actually throughout the year, you just post what you need to and then you're off and in and Ramadan more
20:59
20 minutes, 59 seconds
so. But I know during the year because I've been looking at more like of these
21:05
21 minutes, 5 seconds
um Quran uh type of accounts and hadith accounts and accounts where they you
21:12
21 minutes, 12 seconds
know have a lot of Islamic values and there's a lot more of them coming up nowadays. Alhamdulillah we have to do our own factchecking obviously we have
21:21
21 minutes, 21 seconds
to do it. We have to make sure you know we can't just follow blindly because unfortunately it is you know the internet and um maybe some people take
21:29
21 minutes, 29 seconds
from ch GPT or what it is and um you know and and the information there could be false. So we should fact check
21:38
21 minutes, 38 seconds
ourself. we should you know uh go through um our Islamic um literature and
21:46
21 minutes, 46 seconds
you know I mean the Quran our own hadith books and stuff like that not just you know whatever is on the internet but
21:54
21 minutes, 54 seconds
there are these accounts that actually remind you um and help you and increase your knowledge in Islam
22:03
22 minutes, 3 seconds
alhamdulillah alhamdulillah and they is actually quite beneficial alhamdulillah yeah May Allah um uh help
22:12
22 minutes, 12 seconds
them and continue to guide them to guide them um so that they can assist and and um guide others inshallah. Amen.
22:21
22 minutes, 21 seconds
Um I think one of the things uh that we should touch on is you know when it's Eid there's always talk around the Eid
22:30
22 minutes, 30 seconds
table. Um, and I'm sure lots of people can relate because there's a lot of conversations that are somehow
22:39
22 minutes, 39 seconds
repeated no matter where you are in the world.
22:42
22 minutes, 42 seconds
Um, that that comes up every Eid, you know, like um, for example, yesterday here in South Africa, a lot of the
22:51
22 minutes, 51 seconds
places didn't have Eida because it rained the night before and then the morning as well.
22:56
22 minutes, 56 seconds
And when you say it rained, it really, really rained. So um so Eida was cancelled in Johannesburg I think in
23:04
23 minutes, 4 seconds
Durban as well. There was a lot a lot of parts in South Africa that that they weren't um Eida didn't take place. So that was one of the topics you know at
23:13
23 minutes, 13 seconds
at the Eid table and um alhamdulillah you know masids were full they were
23:19
23 minutes, 19 seconds
overflowing they had to make special um arrangements in some places. I know there's a spur restaurant in in Black
23:28
23 minutes, 28 seconds
Heath Wild Falcon and underneath their parking lot they made a jamat there because alhamdulillah
23:36
23 minutes, 36 seconds
because in the area the uh Eid didn't take place so there was a lot more people alhamdulillah people came out in
23:45
23 minutes, 45 seconds
in numbers you know so and the like I said the mashid were over overflown and some of them even had a second jamat
23:52
23 minutes, 52 seconds
wow alhamdulillah for Eid salah So, um, so that was one of the the the topics of conversation, you
23:59
23 minutes, 59 seconds
know, the usual, um, oh, the barber was so full or the car wash was so full, um, when I went on Thursday, you know, like
24:08
24 minutes, 8 seconds
like those those things that that's so nice that a lot of people and we actually put out a question about that, you know, what what are your
24:15
24 minutes, 15 seconds
traditions? What are your um Ramadan and Eid traditions? your fondest memories, you know, like that's that's a tradition
24:23
24 minutes, 23 seconds
just before it's in Ramadan and just before Eid, a lot of people make sure that they go to the barber, they go and get a haircut. Um, a lot of
24:32
24 minutes, 32 seconds
people make sure that they um go to the car wash. Yes.
24:37
24 minutes, 37 seconds
And wash then get their car washed, maybe get a full vacuum and um
24:44
24 minutes, 44 seconds
all the trims in. But I always say like because when it's it's just like Murphy's law when whenever you wash your car then it's going to rain.
24:52
24 minutes, 52 seconds
Yes. And it rained.
24:53
24 minutes, 53 seconds
I think everybody went to go and wash their car on Friday or Thursday even and then alhamdulillah it rained.
25:01
25 minutes, 1 second
Alhamdulillah. And then a lot of people make sure that just before Eid they u clean their place like spotless clean
25:10
25 minutes, 10 seconds
the braso. Silver the silverware is braso. Yes.
25:14
25 minutes, 14 seconds
Yeah. No, and and it's good it's good traditions to have and we've got, like we said, a lot of those came through.
25:21
25 minutes, 21 seconds
Alhamdulillah, you know, the um the e traditions, the Ramadan traditions, you know, having your bubber on the 15th night and um
25:28
25 minutes, 28 seconds
and then there were quite a few people and you you're one of the people when you were younger um you never used to have it only on the 15th night. You used to have it throughout Ramadan.
25:38
25 minutes, 38 seconds
Yeah. No, so there there's lots of things and it was nice to read some of them. Maybe if we have time we'll go through some of them
25:46
25 minutes, 46 seconds
inshallah. Amen. And then another one of the the topics was which night was le you know everyone experiences
25:53
25 minutes, 53 seconds
differently and you know you look for the signs. Uh was it a quiet night? Um was this light rain?
26:00
26 minutes
Was there light rain? Um was the sun bright in the morning after? You know all those things. And people have their
26:08
26 minutes, 8 seconds
predictions. But I mean we know that we need to uh you know seek the night in the last 10 days especially the odd
26:15
26 minutes, 15 seconds
nights. Especially the odd nights. It's not only the odd nights.
26:18
26 minutes, 18 seconds
Yeah. So we should I mean it's after Ramadan but I mean everyone should know that not only the odd nights you should
26:25
26 minutes, 25 seconds
be praying and staying up in you know it's only on a specific day in the last 10 nights. But yeah, that was one of the things. But what caught my attention the
26:34
26 minutes, 34 seconds
most was uh we had this very interesting conversation where one one of the brothers were actually invited to to
26:42
26 minutes, 42 seconds
Chile. One of the huas were invited to Chile to read there because Chile the country. C H I L E.
26:48
26 minutes, 48 seconds
Yeah. In South America. Uh for those that are not uh geographically aware.
26:57
26 minutes, 57 seconds
Yeah. So um and apparently a lot of the places in uh South America actually
27:04
27 minutes, 4 seconds
invite hufas like I think even in Brazil in Chile specifically apparently there's five hufas I haven't fact checked
27:11
27 minutes, 11 seconds
in the whole country I'm not sure if it's if it's the whole country or if in the specific uh city that's why I said I haven't fact checked
27:19
27 minutes, 19 seconds
if you are listening from Chile please do let us know or anywhere in South America you know how many hu Do you have
27:28
27 minutes, 28 seconds
do you have um uh not tr problems or trouble but maybe um
27:35
27 minutes, 35 seconds
a a bit of a difficulty in making sure that um your tarawi is read by you know like many different hufas in the in the month.
27:45
27 minutes, 45 seconds
Yeah. And also I think there's about five masids. Again, I'm not sure if there's five mashids in the whole of Chile or in just like a certain area,
27:54
27 minutes, 54 seconds
a certain area, but five wu, five mashids. So, and I mean then it just
28:01
28 minutes, 1 second
makes you realize how privileged we are here in South Africa. Alhamdulillah.
28:04
28 minutes, 4 seconds
Firstly, that our huas are being invited to these countries. Alhamdulillah.
28:10
28 minutes, 10 seconds
And it's like all over the world. I think you said even in like Ireland.
28:12
28 minutes, 12 seconds
Ireland. I overheard someone say even in Ireland as well. Yeah, but if you're from Ireland also let us know. Do you does your country um or
28:21
28 minutes, 21 seconds
certain parts in your country um you know invite hufas from out of the country? Is it because you don't have
28:28
28 minutes, 28 seconds
that many hu to um recite the or is it because you just want diversity because sometimes diversity is nice.
28:38
28 minutes, 38 seconds
We do have um here in South Africa where we have from other countries.
28:42
28 minutes, 42 seconds
We were mentioning something about the different dialects also. you know what we're used to. But you know, like you said, alhamdulillah, we're so privileged
28:50
28 minutes, 50 seconds
because I know in like one masjid, we'll have five four or five um hufas who will be reading Tarawi and they'll take
28:58
28 minutes, 58 seconds
turns. So you know if that's the case and if like we we don't know at the
29:04
29 minutes, 4 seconds
moment um if if it's one huah per masid that means they would have to read the
29:12
29 minutes, 12 seconds
entire you know for the entire night every night and it's it becomes taxing as well and
29:19
29 minutes, 19 seconds
um no but alhamdulillah I think maybe even like you say besides diversity alhamdulillah we have such um good uh schools here.
29:29
29 minutes, 29 seconds
Alhamdulillah.
29:30
29 minutes, 30 seconds
Daryls everything that you know that we we are taught so well. Alhamdulillah that um you know the the Taji that we
29:38
29 minutes, 38 seconds
read with you know all all that you know takes we we we need to say alhamdulillah more often because we are really
29:45
29 minutes, 45 seconds
privileged and like you said five or five sometimes there's so many other tarawi venues besides the masid you know people have in their homes people have
29:54
29 minutes, 54 seconds
um somewhere in their community um you know because there's so many hufas and we and they need to it's the
30:02
30 minutes, 2 seconds
only month that they get to obviously you need to everyday um uh continuously practice but you know where you can
30:10
30 minutes, 10 seconds
actually go on this soal invert stage and you you you get to to read so
30:17
30 minutes, 17 seconds
to show off what you know in a way in a way.
30:21
30 minutes, 21 seconds
Yeah. But alhamdulillah alhamdulillah.
30:23
30 minutes, 23 seconds
Okay. So we mentioned that um we had a few questions that we asked on social media during Ramadan. One of them was
30:32
30 minutes, 32 seconds
what would what do you miss most about Ramadan? That was obviously at the end of Ramadan. We asked during Ramadan, we
30:39
30 minutes, 39 seconds
asked um what uh traditions do you have during Ramadan and Eid traditions that
30:47
30 minutes, 47 seconds
you you know have carried over the years and your fondest memories?
30:50
30 minutes, 50 seconds
And then one of the other ones was what is your fondest memories of um Ramadan or Eid?
30:56
30 minutes, 56 seconds
Ramadan or Eid. But also, you know, like what are the new traditions that you're going to start, you know, carrying over because a lot of people, you know, uh in
31:03
31 minutes, 3 seconds
new in in families who have young children and they want to try and make it special, you know, for them. Um so
31:11
31 minutes, 11 seconds
what so you mentioned what will you miss the most and someone um uh replied and said witnessing the dedication of our
31:20
31 minutes, 20 seconds
Muslim brothers and sisters to their fast. It is very inspiring. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.
31:27
31 minutes, 27 seconds
Yeah. Um that is very inspiring. You know there's I've spoken to people that
31:33
31 minutes, 33 seconds
live in Muslim countries and they say uh I met this one brother and there's actually quite quite a few people that
31:42
31 minutes, 42 seconds
I've met but this one particular brother from Pakistan said you know in our Muslim countries they don't fast the way we fast here in
31:51
31 minutes, 51 seconds
South Africa. So that's another thing that we must say alhamdulillah for is that the the dedication like this person
31:59
31 minutes, 59 seconds
said the way that um we keep all our fast because they they say like in Pakistan you fast when you want to when
32:08
32 minutes, 8 seconds
you want to fast really seriously and a lot of the Muslim countries a lot of the brothers that I've spoken to in other Muslim countries
32:16
32 minutes, 16 seconds
so-called Muslim countries um they it's it's totally different to to what they say the iman year in South Africa is on another level.
32:27
32 minutes, 27 seconds
No, it is true because I mean uh I've spoken to a lot of people. It's you know not just us. We were also you know unwell during Ramadan and a lot of
32:35
32 minutes, 35 seconds
people also because of the change of weather were also unwell and they would still continue we would still continue
32:42
32 minutes, 42 seconds
fasting. I mean even uh Issa who is not even he doesn't need to fast every day
32:50
32 minutes, 50 seconds
he was sick and he still fasted through being sick.
32:54
32 minutes, 54 seconds
Alhamdulillah. And you know a lot of people say even their children you know who who don't even need to they they continue that because they want to feel
33:03
33 minutes, 3 seconds
you know the that Ramadan for us and we I I actually I'm not sure you know what's the intention but alhamdulillah you know it's it is the dedication and
33:12
33 minutes, 12 seconds
for us also I mean you traveled and unfortunately you were hoping not to travel during Ramadan this year. You were doing so well non-traveling.
33:22
33 minutes, 22 seconds
Yeah. But and you still travel you know.
33:25
33 minutes, 25 seconds
apparent not apparently but you can you know not fast when you're traveling but you'll have to make it up afterwards and
33:33
33 minutes, 33 seconds
yet you know you obviously still fast and I know there's a lot of other people who also you know even while traveling they also still fast and alhamdulillah
33:42
33 minutes, 42 seconds
Allah made it so that you you guys were fine may Allah keep that im for us
33:51
33 minutes, 51 seconds
increase it inshallah mean.
33:55
33 minutes, 55 seconds
Yeah. So, um some of the other stuff that came through, what was some of your fondest memories uh during Ramadan or
34:04
34 minutes, 4 seconds
for Eid? Um one of the people sent through that they could remember going
34:11
34 minutes, 11 seconds
to Eida early in the morning. um you know when it was obviously when they
34:18
34 minutes, 18 seconds
were younger and they said that the sun would be beating down on them while they were at this Eida.
34:25
34 minutes, 25 seconds
Oh I'm assuming it was uh a while ago because we we haven't had like really
34:33
34 minutes, 33 seconds
heavy for Eidas in a few years. So it was probably taken a rotation of like maybe 30 years unless it was in Durban. I think they have sun throughout the year.
34:44
34 minutes, 44 seconds
But yeah, alhamdulillah. um other stuff that came through was um so some of the Ramadan cuz I um
34:51
34 minutes, 51 seconds
mentioned to someone you know when um we were younger when I was younger um we
34:58
34 minutes, 58 seconds
had I was living in a place where um we could see the masid and um from our you
35:06
35 minutes, 6 seconds
know upstairs window and um and there were actually a few of my friends who who could see you know the the masid from the upstairs window and um or
35:14
35 minutes, 14 seconds
wherever they lived. Maybe they live in a flat upstairs and um when it was time to break the fast the
35:22
35 minutes, 22 seconds
light from the mid would come on. So there were quite a few people who related with that uh you know to me with
35:30
35 minutes, 30 seconds
that um that you know they would say it scream light is on and then that meant you know you must break your fast. Um
35:38
35 minutes, 38 seconds
some people mentioned something about um sitting in a line uh in near uh the door where they could hear the the the adan being played.
35:50
35 minutes, 50 seconds
Okay.
35:51
35 minutes, 51 seconds
I also received one where they were talking about on Eid day that um they would actually look for the uncles that
36:00
36 minutes
they knew gave the best edies. So okay.
36:05
36 minutes, 5 seconds
So yeah, it was apparently it's a thing where you you look for the uncles that are going to give you a good ED and you
36:13
36 minutes, 13 seconds
you know like as kids you you make an effort to go up to everyone to greet them on Eid day hoping that they would give you a ED in return.
36:24
36 minutes, 24 seconds
So yeah, there was there's quite some comical ones. We'll we'll try and post them on uh our social media as well.
36:32
36 minutes, 32 seconds
we'll compile it and maybe even put it on our website.
36:36
36 minutes, 36 seconds
So then the the Eid traditions were always making sure that you know they clean before um the they make sure that
36:44
36 minutes, 44 seconds
they go to um their their families, you know, to spend E day with them. uh the new E traditions are, you know, um
36:54
36 minutes, 54 seconds
trying to get their children um excited about well Ramadan and Eid, you know. So, I
37:03
37 minutes, 3 seconds
mean, it's not necessary for people to um put up decorations. It's not like even um
37:11
37 minutes, 11 seconds
I don't know, like a lot of people like hate on that. And it's it's not about that. It's about trying to get your
37:19
37 minutes, 19 seconds
little ones involved.
37:22
37 minutes, 22 seconds
But I think a lot of people because they say, you know, Ramadan and Eid has become very commercialized.
37:28
37 minutes, 28 seconds
Uh but considering there's like a quarter of the world's population is Muslim. Alhamdulillah.
37:34
37 minutes, 34 seconds
Alhamdulillah. But also I think because there's a lot of reverts and a lot of people have come into the fold of Islam
37:43
37 minutes, 43 seconds
recently and you know trying to also explain to the their families um who are
37:52
37 minutes, 52 seconds
non-Muslim you know this is actually what we're doing and you know um to their their kids who might be the first
38:00
38 minutes
generation born Muslim you know so it's it's that way of everyone has a different way of teaching and it as long
38:08
38 minutes, 8 seconds
as it's not bida and as long as we're not going off the the path and we're keeping within uh
38:16
38 minutes, 16 seconds
the teachings and the hadith and the sunnas and everything then I think you know it's okay to try and find a way to get
38:24
38 minutes, 24 seconds
your your your children involved um in in fasting to to also support you know
38:31
38 minutes, 31 seconds
those who are not Muslim to support um I mean It's really nice that they they are quite supportive the the families that
38:38
38 minutes, 38 seconds
I've seen even uh I think we mentioned it there was a post put on Facebook where um somebody had a it was a
38:47
38 minutes, 47 seconds
non-Muslim who had a Muslim friend and she she tried to get a you know a Ramadan
38:54
38 minutes, 54 seconds
um you know like aar basically and ready for her ready for her and um you know that that again you know
39:03
39 minutes, 3 seconds
the sense of community from the non-Muslims, you know, just, you know, because they see now when we were
39:10
39 minutes, 10 seconds
growing up, nobody even knew what Ramadan was. They would, everybody would ask us, you know, like I'm talking about non-Muslims.
39:18
39 minutes, 18 seconds
Um, not even water.
39:19
39 minutes, 19 seconds
Yeah. Not even water. Oh, what do you guys do? When is this that? But now it's I think because it's more like they say commercialized.
39:27
39 minutes, 27 seconds
It's it's knowledge for people out there. Um but before we go the one of the other things was you know talking
39:34
39 minutes, 34 seconds
about traditions uh during Ramadan there was somebody that sent a message and said that they still continue
39:42
39 minutes, 42 seconds
because you know they get together on either a Friday Juma lunch or a Sunday lunch they have like a Saturday evening
39:50
39 minutes, 50 seconds
ifar. So their family still gets together even though because they so it's not really like aar party. It's
39:56
39 minutes, 56 seconds
basically you know trying to get the family and which is always a good thing you know strengthen family ties. So yeah.
40:05
40 minutes, 5 seconds
Okay. Alhamdulillah for all of your answers to our questions and uh inshallah we will try and share
40:13
40 minutes, 13 seconds
most of them but right now we have to go into to our dear listeners who are
