week and break them down, shall we? In the first half of the program, we will look at two ongoing stories and try and

So both stories which we will be looking at have significant impact on the upcoming elections in South Africa. One

Adams getting arrested. Let's take a look at the latter first.

So the arrest of Vadil Adams, leader of the National Colored Congress, the NCC, and member of Parliament has been one of

the most high profile stories in South Africa this week.

He was arrested on Tuesday, May the 5th, 2026 at the Parliamentary Village in Cape Town. The arrest was carried out by

and relates to a complex legal matter involving fraud and interference in a murder investigation.

So, what led to his arrest? The core of the state's case stems from events in late 2024 and early 2025.

mysteries. To understand why Fariel Adams is now involved, it helps to look at the original 2017 hit and the

explosive allegations that have recently surfaced.

Zindiso Mataka was the former secretary general of the ANC Youth League and a

rising political star. In July 2017, he and two other counselors were ambushed

in Uzumulu, Guazulu Natal. Malaka survived the initial shooting but died in the hospital weeks later.

It is widely believed he was killed because he was about to expose massive corruption related to a multi-million

For years, the case moves slowly, but there have been major recent breakthroughs. In July 2025, a hitman

named Cibuiso Inua was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He

confessed to the shooting and pointed fingers at the masterminds.

Three other men, Spanelo Mza Embuana, and Zuelip Panzi Scosana are still

facing trial. Their case is scheduled to resume in the Peter Marittsburg High Court on May 18th, 2026.

So, this is where it gets a little bit complicated. So earlier this year, a whistleblower referred to as witness E

testified before the Madlanga Commission. He claimed that crime intelligence members were allegedly

involved in the plot. Highranking police officers supposedly ignored warnings about the hit 2 weeks before it

happened. Some even alleged that an AK-47 used in the hit was supplied by police sources.

Fardial Adams acting as an MP and leader of the NCC began his own oversight investigation into these claims.

In January 2025, Adams visited the hitman in Guang in Guangua in prison. He

claims he obtained a sworn affidavit from him that officially names senior police officials and politicians as the ones who ordered the hit.

So why does this all matter right now?

Then regards with uh to Pala Pala there are some key developments. So, the constitutional

court has overturned a 2022 National Assembly decision that previously blocked an impeachment inquiry. The

court ruled that the vote to reject the independent panel's report was invalid.

Parliamentary rules regarding the removal of a president were inconsistent with the Constitution.

The report must now be referred to an impeachment committee for a formal inquiry.

Legal experts and analysts suggest the following path forward. This is for the impeachment process.

So we hear about it but what is Pala Pala or what happened that could lead to the impeachment or resignation of President Siril Ramapora?

So the Pala Pala scandal often called sofa gate and the section 189 process

are at the center of one of South Africa's most significant constitutional moments. The scandal began in June 2022

when former spy chief Arthur Fraser laid criminal charges against President Ramapza.

In February 2020, a burglary burglary occurred at the president's private game farm Palapala in Limpopo.

Allegations emerged that roughly $4 million in US dollars was hidden inside a leather sofa.

It was alleged it was alleged that the president did not report the theft to the police through official channels, opting instead for a private

Phase three is the impeachment committee starting now. Following the court order, a multi-party impeachment committee must

now be formed. This functions like a trial. Evidence leaders, they will present charges and evidence. There's

cross-examination. The president and witnesses can be questioned. And there's a verdict. The committee will recommend whether the president should be removed.

In phase four is the final vote for the president to be removed from office.

Again, why does this matter? Right now, with the government of National Unity, GNU, in place, the political math has

changed. While the NC no longer has an outright majority, the Democratic Alliance, now a partner in government,

has stated it will respect the court's ruling, but hasn't committed to a guilty vote yet. Meanwhile, opposition parties

like the EFF, ATM, and MK party led by Jacob Zuma are pushing for a secret ballot, hoping to convince disgruntled

ANC members to vote against their own leader.

liter. These prices were driven by higher international product prices and a weaker rand US dollar exchange rate.

There has been some relief from banks like FNB and Engine with a 50% increase in the EBUX rewards for May and June 2026.

ABSA and Sassil also have a similar rewards adjustment.

But according to some reports, South Africans bought 35% less fuel in April compared to March. According to some

swipes from over 200,000 clients shows how motorists responded to the fuel price increase on 1st of April, which

saw petrol climb by 3 rand 6 per liter and diesel by as much as 751 per liter.

The analysis also showed that fuel transactions dropped by 28% over the same period.

At the same time, driving behavior also shifted. Trips taken were down 10% and the total distance traveled dropped by 9%.

Even when removing the Easter weekend, the 3rd to the 6th of April 2026 from the data, trips and distance traveled was still down by 8%.

So, we spoke about it a few weeks ago, I think it was when the price increase was in April, and we said what we should do as Muslims. Um, you can go back and

kids for madressa um to visit our family. So we're doing everything for the pleasure of Allah and inshallah we

will have baraka in our fuel. But what are some of the other alternatives?

There's obviously like uh we've seen there's been a reduced usage of so going for just necessary trips. So if it's to

work and back um maybe if it's cheaper to to use an Uber than to use your
20 minutes, 49 seconds
vehicle. Um, in some instances, if it's cheaper to walk, uh, obviously it would be cheaper to walk because there's no

costs involved or getting a bicycle, um, you know,
21 minutes, 3 seconds
uh, using lift clubs. So, all those type of things to reduce usage,

uh, you know, looked at now as well. And there's obviously alternatives in the the motoring industry in terms of

hybrids. There's lots of uh hybrid electric vehicles now, plug-in hybrids, uh mild hybrids. There's also fully

electric vehicles as well, which is a fraction of the cost of what the fuel is. We had one of the uh electric

vehicles on test and it's a significant reduction in what you would be paying for fuel. Like we said, it's uh almost

27 rand a liter for for petrol and over 30 rand a liter for diesel. And you're
21 minutes, 50 seconds
looking at maybe the maximum if you're using
21 minutes, 57 seconds
one of these charging stations, you're looking at about 9 or 10 rand per kilowatt.

and your battery is probably about say 40 kW which is equivalent to your 40 L

tank in a vehicle. So um you do the math. I'm not going to get into that but there there are some alternatives.

Obviously the other alternative is flying if you need to um go to further places than just around the corner. And

we saw this week Fly Saf Air had their famous birthday sale. Um, this year's 12 rand sale was significantly more

expensive than last year's 11 grand sale due to a major shift in how the final price was calculated.

The total cost varied based on the route distance with fuel search charges acting as the biggest price driver.

So the lowest um cost we looked at was approximately 168 rand 28 for short hall routes like Johannesburg to George.

Many travels reported final totals between 500 rand and 950 rand for standard domestic routes.

Some bookings reached over 1,100 rand for longhaul or less common routes such as hoodplate to Cape Town. And in

extreme cases involving multiple passengers, totals exceeded 3,800 rand.

So um in terms of 2026 versus 2025, the 2026 sale was notably less allincclusive than previous years.

In 2025, the 11 rand fair included airport taxes, meaning the advertised price was much closer to what you

know you were seeing like over a,000 rand and people were like why are they you know staying in the queue

also with this chat uh API that they had apparently there was private information

leaked so um there was details of users particip participating in the sale including

their names and email addresses and it was on for almost 2 hours. Um so that

data was accessible. So as you logged in and you started chatting on this chatbot your name, your email address was all um

and IP addresses apparently was also shown on this API until it was made

aware to fly safere. They then removed it but already one and a half hours close to two hours um this information

was accessible. Then in terms of the flotilla um the South African delegation has been named for the flotilla.
