The Changan UNI-S has officially launched in South Africa, with a very clear intention: To challenge expectations in the mid-size SUV segment, by raising the bar with superior engineering and even more premium value, without the price penalty.
With the April introduction of three distinct grades - CS, CL, and CE - the UNI-S range has been structured to give South African drivers greater choice, while maintaining the strong, design-led identity and advanced engineering that has defined the nameplate, globally.
Each grade builds on a shared foundation, while introducing meaningful enhancements in safety, comfort and technology. All models are 4.5m in length and offer 475L of luggage capacity.
UNI-S CS: A Formidable Foundation of Performance and Everyday Innovation
At the core of the range, the UNI-S CS establishes a confident baseline, combining responsive performance with practical, well-considered features. Powered by Changan’s award winning “Blue Whale” 1.5ℓ turbocharged engine, all models enjoy a thrilling 138kW of power and 300Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The CS offers smooth, efficient performance supported by a multi-link independent rear suspension for improved ride quality and control.
Its exterior presence is defined by 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting with daytime running lights, and a clean, cohesive design language, while inside, the focus is on usability and comfort. A 12.8-inch infotainment display, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrated through the AI Elf voice assistant, ensure a truly connected driving experience.
Comfort is enhanced through ventilated front seats, automatic climate control with rear air vents and a practical, spacious cabin layout. Safety and control are equally well covered, with features including ABS, EBD, ESP and Traction Control. Hill Start Assist (HAS), Hill Descent Control (HDC) with auto hold, as well as front, side and driver / passenger airbags.
City driving confidence is further improved with an electronic park brake, park simulation video display, rear parking sensors and a 540° panoramic camera system. Building on the CS, the UNI-S CL introduces a significant step up in intelligent driver assistance and interior refinement. These include Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) - with pedestrian recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go functionality, Integrated Adaptive Cruise (IACC), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).

Visually, the CE stands apart from the CS and CL grades with 19-inch alloy wheels, while functionality is enhanced through additional rear parking sensors, automatic parking assist, and a suite of advanced awareness systems. A full compliment of ADAS features now comes into play, with Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) as well as Rear Collision Warning (RCW).
Inside, the cabin experience becomes more refined and personalised. Official launch pricing has been released, with the Changan UNI-S 1.5T AT CS retailing at R389,900.00. The mid-grade CL is expected to cost R429,900.00 - with the range topping CE derivative at R469,900.00. The UNI-S will be available in five colours: Black, Putty Grey, Shadow Grey. Flourite Grey and Moon White.
