At the end of a year celebrating the 110th anniversary of the brand’s foundation, Alfa Romeo have created a documentary to tell the backstory of the creation of the Giulia GTA, the best-performing sports saloon ever produced by Alfa Romeo.

A supercar to be driven on the road and the track, a gift to every fan of Alfa Romeo and petrol heads in general.

Arnaud Leclerc – Head of Alfa Romeo EMEA, Klaus Busse – Head of Design EMEA, and Fabio Migliavacca – Head of Product Marketing EMEA share the emotions they experienced while planning the celebration of a true Alfa Romeo icon. From the earliest sketches, to finally getting it on the road, they talk about what it was like to develop, design and produce a car so symbolic of Italian culture, performance, design and Italian ‘know-how.’ .

Together with the GTAm version (‘m’ for ‘modificato’), the Giulia GTA – only 500 of which will be made – is a return to the origins of Alfa Romeo and a tribute to one of its most emblematic models. The 1965 Giulia GTA, the “Gran Turismo Alleggerita”, was developed by Autodelta and based on the Giulia Sprint GT, which went on to rack up sporting successes worldwide.

The Giulia GTA project has benefited from the long-standing partnership with Sauber Group AG, leveraging the knowledge of its engineering and aerodynamics divisions.

The Sauber Group boast 50 years of experience in motorsport, including 27 in F1, accumulating invaluable experience in the design and use of carbon fiber, as well as advanced knowledge of aerodynamics.

With its very own wind tunnel, in Hinwil, Switzerland, Sauber Engineering have been entrusted with the production of most of the carbon fiber components in the GTA and GTAm, especially those with an aerodynamic impact, including the new front bumpers, side skirts, diffuser, the GTA’s spoiler and the GTAm’s aerowing.

The result is a car to take your breath away both from an aesthetic perspective and in terms of performance, with large front air intakes and an adjustable carbon fiber rear spoiler.

The engine in the Giulia GTAm is based on the Alfa Romeo 2.9-litre V6 Bi-Turbo, made entirely of aluminum. It has been adapted to unleash 540hp which takes the car from zero to 100 km/h, courtesy of the Launch Control system, lightning-fast in only 3.6 seconds.
