MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma commends the team for using the cutting edge technology to trace down the motorist and found him hiding in a Golf Estate on the South Coast
Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: We wish to commend the Road Traffic Inspectorate team from Park Rynie for arresting a reckless motorist after a meticulous investigation that involved analyzing a footage.
After his arrest, the motorist, from a Durban suburb, appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates Court to face charges of speeding, reckless driving and running away from traffic police.
He was granted R3000 bail and will make his next court appearance with his attorney on the 25th February 2026.
The motorist was stopped by the RTI Team dangerously clocking a speed of 204 km/h. Realizing that he was due to spend time in the cells, he sped away from the scene forgetting his identification document in possession of the no nonsense RTI team.
Thanks to the artificial intelligence and cutting edge technology which enabled the RTI to trace his movements to a Golf Estate on the South Coast.
The high-resolution imaging and real-time data analytics revealed how he removed the registration number plates from his vehicle.
The analysis further revealed another driver removing the vehicle from the Golf Estate.
Critically, using AI-driven systems that detects, tracks and analyses the behaviour in real-time, the RTI team located him hiding in the Golf Estate’s villa.
Through an AI-enabled CCTV and IoT sensors the RTI team emerged from nowhere and arrested the motorist.
