Toyota CRYO RDT riders saddle up for Esports World Championships
Toyota South Africa (TSAM) and The Toyota Gaming Engine (TTGE) are proud to announce that four riders from the Toyota CRYO RDT team have been selected to take part in the 2nd edition of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Cycling Esports World Championships. Zwift, the indoor fitness platform, will host the 2022 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships on 26 February 2022.

National federations were ranked for men and women and allocated riders on a sliding scale based on the number of Zwift community members, size and quality of the elite level ecycling talent pool, as well as UCI Road rankings. Some squads are yet to be finalised and we hope to announce the inclusion of more Toyota CRYO RDT riders soon.

Aaron Borrill (39) is a South African rider who recently relocated to the UK. As tech editor of Cyclingnews.com, he eats, sleeps and breathes cycling. At 61.5kg, he’s one of the lightest riders on the Toyota CRYO RDT line-up and naturally enjoys a good threshold session up Alpe du Zwift. Aaron has raced competitively at elite and age-group levels back in South Africa, where he specialised as a mountain biker.
Linda Klein (30) is a Dutch rider who used to race when she was younger. She started Zwifting in 2020 and quickly discovered that ecycling is the perfect way to get some competition without having the stress of riding in a peloton. When not riding one of her bikes, Linda spends her time working for the Dutch government and running her own company in geodata analysis.
Eddy Hoole (36) is the only South African rider in the Toyota CRYO RDT line-up who currently lives in the country. At 62.5kg, he might be one of the lighter riders but his innate ability to sustain his power for long periods makes him a real asset to the team. Eddy recently returned to cycling after a lengthy hiatus. An injury-plagued first season introduced him to Zwift and the ecycling concept - he hasn’t looked back since.
Martin Maertens (29) is a German engineer and road cyclist. He’s a climber, and his advantages come into play on the most brutal climbs out there. Based on a background in triathlon, Martin’s got the ability to push his highest power numbers in Team Time Trials. He’s looking forward to continuing to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming races in all disciplines.
