to the business end of the RAV 4 day. I hope you all enjoyed the day with us.
13 seconds
So the tagline for the new RAV 4 campaign is be part of the adventure and I hope you can all agree that you were
21 seconds
indeed part of the adventure in getting here to part of Norst today. And what a
28 seconds
beautiful setting it is to launch a model that is intrinsically important to Toyota and part of our DNA. Launched
37 seconds
back in the mid '90s, RAV 4 really created a new segment. Um, took Toyota
44 seconds
into a design and market area that it had not been in before and continued to be the pioneer in what
52 seconds
has become one of the most popular vehicles.
57 seconds
in fact the most popular vehicle based on worldwide sales in 2025.
1 minute, 3 seconds
RAV 4 being the bestselling vehicle in 2025, beating out everything else. So,
1 minute, 10 seconds

2 minutes, 2 seconds
good evening everyone. Um, so like Rian said, I'll take you through the product details of the new generation Ram 4. I
2 minutes, 11 seconds
hope you all had a great day um, driving the vehicle and I hope you all love it as much as we do. And I'll just take you through the reasons why we love it so much.
2 minutes, 21 seconds
Um, so I'll take you through the journey to discover the new generation RAF 4 to explore the evolution of this iconic SUV
2 minutes, 30 seconds
that has been driven by adventure. It's been defined by versatility and enabled by freedom all created around you. Um,
2 minutes, 39 seconds
let's begin with evolution. So we'll explore RF's heritage, the evolving SUV market as well as the role that it plays
2 minutes, 47 seconds
within TAC. And as Rian said, um, RAFO remains a pioneer. And the story of RAF 4 doesn't begin with entering a segment.
2 minutes, 56 seconds
It begins with creating one. From the onset, it pioneered the compact SUV space. And that story started from a bold idea to a global benchmark.
3 minutes, 7 seconds
Launching in 1994 as Toyota's first compact SUV. And as a pioneer of the segment, it introduced a
3 minutes, 15 seconds
twod door model that com combined SUV traits like the higher ground clearance as well as practicality.
3 minutes, 23 seconds
And in 2001, we had our second generation which arrived with a more refined design and improved comfort, introducing a four-door model.
3 minutes, 32 seconds
In 2006, we had the third generation, bringing more space, more power, as well as greater practicality with a 2.4 4
3 minutes, 40 seconds
liter engine as well as improved interior features. And in 2013, we had our fourth generation uh featuring a
3 minutes, 48 seconds
sleeker design, more advanced technology as well as a stronger focus on fuel efficiency. And our fifth generation
3 minutes, 56 seconds
launched in 2019, which marked a major transformation with a bold new design, even more advanced safety features, as
4 minutes, 4 seconds
well as the introduction of the hybrid as well as the plug-in hybrid.
4 minutes, 9 seconds
And in 2026, the evolution continues more advanced, more efficient as well as more connected.
4 minutes, 17 seconds
As Rion has said, RAFO is a global success. It is currently being sold in over 180 countries and regions. And in
4 minutes, 26 seconds
just 30 years, it has reached over 15 million units sold globally, driven in more than 60 million times around the
4 minutes, 35 seconds
world. Truly a pioneer. Now going from the global success, we turn to the South African D segment or the DSUV landscape
4 minutes, 44 seconds
where Toyota raf 4 continues to compete in an increasingly dynamic as well as fast evolving market. In 2019, we
4 minutes, 52 seconds
launched we launched our fifth generation RAF 4 and the landscape was relatively stable led by traditional brands including VW as well as Mazda.
5 minutes, 2 seconds
However, when we move on from 2025 onwards, the market has shifted um with particularly the entrance of new players
5 minutes, 10 seconds
um particularly Chinese disruptors including the Jour, the Haval, the J Crew and so on. However, traditional
5 minutes, 17 seconds
brands continue to press on, including VW and Ford still being present and with this um fast changing environment, it
5 minutes, 26 seconds
calls again for RAF 4 to evolve and to align with what where the market is going and that is exactly what it is going to do.
5 minutes, 35 seconds
When we look at the role of RAF 4 in our lineup, it continues to have an evolving purpose. RAF is positioned as our
5 minutes, 42 seconds
stylish top-of-the-end lifestyle SUV with a comprehensive lineup being Toyota's first hybrid as well as plug-in hybrid SUV.
5 minutes, 52 seconds
When we look at Tiss's DSUV strategy, um Tiss has embarked on a broader strategy to recapture as well as strengthen our
6 minutes
positioning within the DSUV with a more diversified SUV portfolio. use um with
6 minutes, 7 seconds
Land Cruiser FJ as our adventure off-road model, RAF 4 as our urban versatility model as well as BZ 4X
6 minutes, 14 seconds
offering advanc efficiency as our first BEV.
6 minutes, 21 seconds
Moving on and now with the foundation that has been set, we step into adventure where the Toyota RAV 4 is
6 minutes, 27 seconds
driven by the idea that every journey is an opportunity, excuse me, opportunity to explore more.
6 minutes, 55 seconds
Heat. Heat.
7 minutes, 17 seconds
So that is the global concept of the new raffle which is life is an adventure and I'll just share with you a short film of
7 minutes, 26 seconds
what raffle means for For over three decades, one name has
7 minutes, 34 seconds
redefined what an SUV can be. Across six generations, it has earned trust around the world. And in 2025, it stood as the
7 minutes, 43 seconds
world's bestselling vehicle. Now, it returns with greater purpose and a new kind of energy. Introducing the allnew Toyota RAV 4.
8 minutes, 3 seconds
One bold design, four distinct personalities. From petrol to hybrid, plug into GRS hybrid. There's a RAV 4
8 minutes, 12 seconds
for every kind of driver. What sets it apart is balance. Advanced safety with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. A refined
8 minutes, 20 seconds
interior with a 12.9 in display, heads-up display, and a panoramic roof in certain models. Next generation
8 minutes, 28 seconds
hybrid and plug-in systems delivering stronger performance and improved efficiency. And for those who want more edge, GRS
8 minutes, 37 seconds
performance inspired styling, tuned suspension, and unmistakable presence.
8 minutes, 42 seconds
So, the GRS RAV, I think, just adds that additional bit of spice to the range. RA is a model that appeals to everybody.
8 minutes, 49 seconds
Perhaps those enthusiasts that are a bit more sporty orientated were missed out and the new JS will definitely cater for that that new model. Rugged when you need it, refined when it matters.
9 minutes
Intelligent, connected, and ready for anything. This is not just evolution.
9 minutes, 7 seconds
It's a new standard for the world's favorite SUV. I have a personal story about RAV 4.
9 minutes, 13 seconds
Having been the owner of a twodoor RAV and a number of other generations over the years, this new vehicle is a
9 minutes, 20 seconds
complete evolution. It is a game changer and I encourage all of you to take a good hard look at it.
9 minutes, 31 seconds
The all new Toyota Rev 4. Be part of the adventure.
9 minutes, 44 seconds
Okay. So that is the spirit behind the new generation ra 4 captured in the life is an adventure concept which reflects
9 minutes, 52 seconds
the mind and mindset of exploration confidence as well as everyday discovery. When we look at the design
9 minutes, 59 seconds
concept, it combines urban sophistication with rugged SUV capability. Um, which creates a refined
10 minutes, 6 seconds
urban SUV design. Moving on to our model lineup on the new generation RAV 4. No matter the road, adventure awaits. From
10 minutes, 15 seconds
daily commuting to efficient eco roads as well as sporty winding roads, there's a raffle for every path. And we have
10 minutes, 24 seconds
streamlined our model lineup to have a prograde strategy with a strong focus on NEV with our new 2.5 um hybrid VX entry
10 minutes, 34 seconds
grade. And this is the first time where we've had an hybrid entry model. And we also have our VX hybrid grades. We've
10 minutes, 42 seconds
also added our G our GRS bra for a more sporty look as well as our 2.5 L plug-in hybrid which completes the range.
10 minutes, 53 seconds
In terms of our engine lineup, um these are our performance figures. We have our 2 liter four four-cylinder
11 minutes, 1 second
four four cylinder frontwheel drive engine which produces 126 kW of power.
11 minutes, 7 seconds
As we also have our 2.5 L hybrid E4 engine which offers even greater performance with a total system output
11 minutes, 16 seconds
of 176 kW. And at the top of the range, we have our 2.5 liter plug-in hybrid E4,
11 minutes, 23 seconds
which produces 242 kW system output and offers excellent acceleration in 5.7 seconds, 0 to 100.
11 minutes, 35 seconds
When we move on to versatility, we will look at the exterior as well as the interior design of the RAV 4. Um, as
11 minutes, 44 seconds
we've seen, RAV 4 has two distinct and versatile designs. Our core as well as our GRS. We'll first look at our core design.
11 minutes, 54 seconds
And this design is adopted by our GX, our VX as well as our plug-in hybrid grades. Looking at the front design, it
12 minutes, 2 seconds
presents a refined yet strong presence with a bold 3D gaze with a rugged body shape. This is expressed through this
12 minutes, 9 seconds
newly crafted hexagonal bumper as well as the LED headlines which introduce a distinct light signature. We also have
12 minutes, 18 seconds
this um the F bezel which is seamlessly integrated which combines aerodynamic performance as well as functional
12 minutes, 26 seconds

13 minutes, 7 seconds

13 minutes, 19 seconds
Now we'll look at our GRS model. The sportier expression of the new generation RA 4.
13 minutes, 26 seconds
The Jura's design is shaped by functional beauty, combining aerodynamic performance with a bold, aggressive
13 minutes, 33 seconds

14 minutes, 5 seconds
five-stroke alloy wheels with each grade getting its own unique um wheel size as well as design uh offering that fun versatility for the lift.
14 minutes, 17 seconds
And then the fun versatility is also expressed through the exterior color range. The GX and VX available in five
14 minutes, 24 seconds

14 minutes, 29 seconds
And our GRS and plug-in hybrids are available in bone including um moonlight ocean as well as agard bronze on the PHV
14 minutes, 37 seconds
as well as GRS having that moon gray as an exclusive color. Moving on to our interior. So, it has been redesigned as
14 minutes, 46 seconds
an island architecture blending SUV functionality with the modern needs um with a minim minimalistic layout that enhances overall elegance.
14 minutes, 57 seconds
The interior is designed to be highly intuitive with a clear focus on functionality, space, and storage uh
15 minutes, 5 seconds
including type-C USBs as well as the reversible armrest. I hope um you guys were able to um try that out. We also
15 minutes, 15 seconds
have two versatile shift knobs um available with the new Toyota first shift by wire that offers more advanced
15 minutes, 24 seconds
driving experience as well as a sleek look. And this is available on our VX hybrid and our plug-in hybrid models.
15 minutes, 34 seconds
The interior features a fully digital console designed to keep you connected and in control. Featuring the new 24

And then this is our interior seating and trim options with the VX available in leather with black or neutral beige.
16 minutes, 50 seconds
GX in fabric. GRS is available in leather with red stitching and our KHV in leather with blue accents. Now we
16 minutes, 59 seconds
move into Freedom where the Toyota RAV 4 brings together NUV technology, performance as well as safety and technology.
17 minutes, 7 seconds
The new Rav 4 hybrids um adopt the fifth generation hybrid system which is a Toyota first including uh which features
17 minutes, 15 seconds
a new compact lithium ion battery for better efficiency and improved performance. And our plug plug-in hybrid
17 minutes, 23 seconds
adopts the sixth generation plug-in hybrid system. Another Toyota first featuring a high capacity lithium ion
17 minutes, 30 seconds
battery for increased capacity as well as longer EV range.
17 minutes, 35 seconds
And the these are just the figures um for our plug-in hybrid with a lithium ion battery um with a battery capacity
17 minutes, 43 seconds
of 25.4 kilowatt hour and an EV range of 142 kilm.
17 minutes, 51 seconds
Then for our customers that are ready to take on advanced um PHEV technology, the car does come with um charging cables
17 minutes, 59 seconds

18 minutes, 32 seconds
Moving on to the technical changes. Um RAF 4 is built on the enhanced TGAK platform which features a lightweight

18 minutes, 58 seconds
And our GRS grade features GR tuned performance including tuned suspension which sharpens handling while smoothing

19 minutes, 49 seconds
And just looking at the advanced technology um for our VX hybrid and plug-in hybrid, they also feature intelligent park assist. This is a

20 minutes, 15 seconds
We'll now move into discover you where everything comes together to show how the rafo is truly t tailored for you.
20 minutes, 22 seconds
And this is just our target customer with our GX and our VX grades are mainly targeted towards um individuals age
20 minutes, 31 seconds
between 34 and 49 years that prioritize quality, durability and safety with our GRS customers age between 30 and 45
20 minutes, 41 seconds
placing importance on image status as well as private ownership. And our plug-in hybrid customers are generally older and they prioritize luxury
20 minutes, 50 seconds
performance as well as that gold styling. And this is our grade walk just highlighting the key changes um the new
20 minutes, 59 seconds
specs as well as the differences between the models on our entry 2.5 hybrid GX.
21 minutes, 5 seconds
You get six airbags. You get clearance sauna 12.3 in fully digital meter as well as 18in alloy wheels. When you go
21 minutes, 14 seconds
to the 2 liter petrol, you get TSS4 with the panoramic view monitor, the heads-up display, as well as the moon roof. On a
21 minutes, 21 seconds
hybrid grade, you get intelligent park assist with that pan bigger panoramic roof as well as the new shift by wire.
21 minutes, 28 seconds
On the hybrid GRS, you get the the 20-in GRS black wheels, leather interior, and
21 minutes, 35 seconds
on our plug-in hybrid, you also get the intelligent park assist, the power back door with kick sensor with the panoramic as well as 20-in black alloy wheels.
21 minutes, 46 seconds
And then lastly, this is our pricing.
21 minutes, 49 seconds
So, our entry 2.5 hybrid GX is starting at 770,500
21 minutes, 55 seconds
with our 2 L VX at 799. Our 2.5 hybrid VX is 927,
22 minutes, 2 seconds
hybrid GRS at 941, and our plug-in hybrid at 1,43,900.
22 minutes, 10 seconds
And um these are just our full maintenance plans with a three-year warranty and our battery, easy battery
22 minutes, 17 seconds
having an 8 years Thank you. That is the endation.
22 minutes, 30 seconds
I trust that was extremely comprehensive and there are no questions here.
22 minutes, 36 seconds
What what's the reason the non-hybrid 2 L is positioned like a tier above the entry
22 minutes, 43 seconds
level hybrid? So Sam also had this question he was just afraid to ask. So thank you for stepping up to the plate.
22 minutes, 51 seconds
Um between Ventia and I'm going to question what's the rationale for the
22 minutes, 57 seconds
2.5 hybrid on GX being priced lower now than in 2 L VX whereas 2 L GX used to be our entry level model.
23 minutes, 6 seconds
That's correct. Right.
23 minutes, 14 seconds
So the we used to have the GXR grade but the GX is actually a new grade that is
23 minutes, 20 seconds
below the GXR. Um and it is also our entry hybrid as you can see by the SP offering. We wanted to make it uh we
23 minutes, 29 seconds
wanted to make our hybrid technology accessible to our customers while also still keeping the VX grade to give to
23 minutes, 36 seconds
those customers that may not be ready to um adopt the hybrid technology while also still giving that advanced
23 minutes, 43 seconds
technology space. So we wanted to ensure that RAF 4 has all the possible options available for customers to have that multi- pathway approach.
23 minutes, 56 seconds
that so globally ramp is really only being introduced with new vehicle combinations. So globally you'll see I
24 minutes, 5 seconds
think really a lineup offering for most countries. Um so from our point of view from hybrid lineup point of view as
24 minutes, 13 seconds
Valencia we wanted to make the hybrid more attainable from an icing point of view um from the ICE perspective we felt
24 minutes, 20 seconds
that as Valentia said it's important to still offer in our market whilst we are seeing a huge transition over to new energy vehicles. There are still some
24 minutes, 28 seconds
people that have reservations about power and batteries. Um so we wanted to offer we didn't offer an entire range because we want to transition to to the new direction. the right thing to do.
24 minutes, 39 seconds
Um, so that's probably kind of one model left is a for those that feel a little bit of those to buy into the new
24 minutes, 46 seconds
technology directions there's a high school available but it is slightly high. So there was some strategy behind it.
24 minutes, 54 seconds
How much is the box charger 15? Do you have it?
25 minutes, 1 second
Uh, so it's about 13 13,000 between 13 and 15. Yes.
25 minutes, 5 seconds
There's there's three options that are available. So we we we enabled it for customers to be able to choose which one they prefer. Um some of you may ask why
25 minutes, 13 seconds
is it not included in the price we had two sort of rational behind
25 minutes, 27 seconds
kind of reaching some competition rules.
25 minutes, 30 seconds
You can do it but it's it's questionable. Um and the second one was we do see people adopting this technology more and more and more and
25 minutes, 38 seconds
once you got one you don't really want another one and we included in the delivery price of the car is included in the cost of the car therefore making
25 minutes, 46 seconds
potential customers redundant that's even the new plan volume for the rest of the year
25 minutes, 57 seconds
I'm going to jump to Lawrence and we'll come back to you on that one. Sorry, I just want to get this straight in my mind. So the H the kilowatt output is 17 and the P is 200 GS.
26 minutes, 12 seconds
So GS okay so think that's an important thing and there is strategy there as
26 minutes, 17 seconds
well. GRS is is on the 2.5 hybrid E4 at this stage. So the VX model and the
26 minutes, 25 seconds
GRS you drove today. same powertrain obviously different suspension execution chassis tuning and different aesthetics
26 minutes, 33 seconds
right the plugin version stands independently at the moment we may look
26 minutes, 40 seconds
into a GRS plugin in future but we also were mindful of launching with this
26 minutes, 47 seconds
basket of of range and also the price impact because obviously if you pair the best power training technology with the
26 minutes, 54 seconds
highest spec offering that does increase the price. So, it might be a future edition, but for now, the power trains
27 minutes, 1 second
of VX and DRS are the same. It's just the aesthetic and chassis tuning the 32.
27 minutes, 14 seconds
Sorry, Lexi, can I ask you to go back to that slide where you had the consumption over
27 minutes, 21 seconds
there? Sorry, there was another question over there.
27 minutes, 28 seconds
I just wanted to know seeing as you obviously focusing a lot in part focusing a lot in electrical vehicle
27 minutes, 34 seconds
technology and stuff like that. What is three penalties?
27 minutes, 42 seconds
What is the odds of South Africa starting to produce um locally built electrical vehicles such as the Corona Cross?
27 minutes, 50 seconds
This is when I love having green in the room to answer the difficult questions.
27 minutes, 55 seconds
So we had this discussion I think touched some earlier basically the any electric or new energy type vehicle
28 minutes, 1 second
assembly in South Afric
28 minutes, 13 seconds
to localize production you need to have the volume which our market as you've seen from all the stats even though battery electric vehicles plugins and that are growing they're still
28 minutes, 22 seconds
relatively a small percentage of the market. So to invest huge amount of make a huge investment for relative to small market doesn't make economic sense because you have to recover that cost.
28 minutes, 31 seconds
So it becomes very expensive. So that's the first reason. Second reason is you know from from my point of view is the technology is still evolving. So I think this RA plugin is a really good example.
28 minutes, 43 seconds
Um the previous generation RAV plugin um I think it had about a 60 70 km range on plugin alone with similar size battery
28 minutes, 52 seconds
offering but with the latest technology now has a range more than double that.
28 minutes, 56 seconds
So if you invest this huge amount of money in the local production in a current technology that could potentially become redundant 4 5 years
29 minutes, 4 seconds
down the line it doesn't make sense from a business point of view. So for sure I do think I do see and that's what the government is encouraging investment in
29 minutes, 12 seconds
new energy vehicles but the most likely scenario is an expansion of hybrids potentially next into plug in to move to
29 minutes, 20 seconds
full battery electric someone will do it um but that's going to be a tipping point from a when is the market big enough I mean our pure EV market in
29 minutes, 28 seconds
South Africa is still relatively tiny compared to where it is in some global markets where it's well above 70 80% in
29 minutes, 35 seconds
South Africa it's about 2% I think for 3 years point of time. Yes. Thank you.
29 minutes, 44 seconds
Okay. Just regarding the um the charging stations, you guys are sort of thinking of, you know, some of the
29 minutes, 51 seconds
the OEMs look at sort of putting something behind, you know, increasing the charging stations cuz something that
29 minutes, 59 seconds
I've noticed with all of the EVs coming through in the last few years before we used to go to used to stop for a charge
30 minutes, 6 seconds
nothing but nobody's there. Now it's actually you got to drive around and go and try and find somewhere else to a bit
30 minutes, 16 seconds
of the bull whoop effect, right? So as more manufacturers including ourselves increase in as EV adoption increases, so
30 minutes, 24 seconds
the infrastructure that served the community 2 years ago is no longer sufficient etc. So I think that's a
30 minutes, 33 seconds
greater infrastructure demand. I don't want to say problem but but issue to address beyond OE available.
30 minutes, 42 seconds
So we have invested in all of our ideas having storage charging facilities at the dealerships.
30 minutes, 47 seconds
So you know where is the role of the energy providing virtual station traditionally manufacturing? Where does that cross over? Um we're not in the
30 minutes, 56 seconds
business of selling energy per se. Yes we are looking at alternative ways to generate revenue from dealerships but energy wheeling in South Africa still
31 minutes, 4 seconds
very much as age. Um so I don't see at this point in time to investing in infrastructure outside of our network
31 minutes, 12 seconds
within our network we're definitely investing and I think just to add to that I was asked earlier why today why did we not put the previous edition plug
31 minutes, 20 seconds
in officially on sir when we launched those two guys are very much a soft launch I remember saying it's an R&D
31 minutes, 28 seconds
exercise we're doing some market study testing of the vehicles checking battery life checking infrastructure requirements And all of that fed into
31 minutes, 37 seconds
equipping the demon network with charging stations, equipping them with the tools to service these vehicles, understand these vehicles, understand
31 minutes, 44 seconds
the customers behind the vehicles, different set of facts and figures for proper plug-in or BEV vehicles. And
31 minutes, 52 seconds
that's what that exercise ultimately has culminated in us producing the new range or delivering a product that now
32 minutes
includes a PhD officially as well as bringing in the BZ4X product as a full be. So I I think that's the best we can answer.
32 minutes, 10 seconds
The demon network has been equipped as and said as an energy provider we need to look outside of the OE
32 minutes, 19 seconds
should be seen. We want to try to minimize the interruption between should you choose a battery electric versus choosing traditional ice. So behind the
32 minutes, 27 seconds
scenes I can partnership with an extensive amount of work been done to try to make that journey see things because it's actually quite difficult to
32 minutes, 36 seconds
service and work on it requires huge investments huge skill set. It's not the same as I mean, yes, you could probably
32 minutes, 45 seconds
hurt yourself getting your hand trapped inside an engine, but you can kill yourself if you touch the wrong wire and battery. So, there's a lot of processes
32 minutes, 53 seconds
in place, but if you touch the wrong wire and you unplug the wrong thing, plus just imagine the logistics of replacing a battery. I think the average
33 minutes
battery, I stand under the correction, so I don't know. I think it's going to get t for the the battery. So the infrastructure to support that within
33 minutes, 8 seconds
the leadership how to move it around, how to store it, how to fit it in the miracle. All of that work done on our side in the last 18 months based on the
33 minutes, 16 seconds
early introduction of we actually did a dual study with car as well. We're going to introduce RZ as a full and then as a PhD just so we could learn as much as
33 minutes, 25 seconds
possible. So when the customer starts to purchase the vehicles from their point of view, it's no different to buy.
33 minutes, 33 seconds
Same.
33 minutes, 34 seconds
So, I think we've had enough time now with Toyota hybrid models in the market where it's been over 10 years. Like
33 minutes, 42 seconds
there are a few hybrids like even old potentially older than Yeah. Older than 40.
33 minutes, 50 seconds
Yeah, it's old. What is What is the general lifespan on these batteries?
33 minutes, 55 seconds
Because I see you guys warranty at 8 year 116,000.
34 minutes
So officially we we we warranty with a time period but we don't walk away from any customer that has an issue
34 minutes, 7 seconds
even after generally they they last longer than they last a very long period of time. So and again what they've learned is how
34 minutes, 16 seconds
you use these batteries determines it lifespan. So for a traditional normal consumer that drives to work every day
34 minutes, 24 seconds
and does whatever those batteries will last probably forever not quite but indefinitely. If you are for example a
34 minutes, 32 seconds
say an Uber driver in a major city and you're charging that battery two or three times a day because now that battery is being used extensively the
34 minutes, 41 seconds
lifespan changes. If you're traveling in an environment where the weather climate is fairly stable versus an environment where you've gone from extreme colds to
34 minutes, 50 seconds
extreme heats over its lifetime that changes the battery. So what Toyota is doing is constantly taking feedback from all of these things and involving the
34 minutes, 58 seconds
technology around the battery. So you will see when you if you attend the VZ 4X launch that a lot of the technology is actually the same technology that was
35 minutes, 7 seconds
in the original VZ 4X but a lot of work has been done to supplement the usage to improve that kind of lifespan. So in
35 minutes, 14 seconds
other words trying to take out the hot and cold starts and repeated usages those things are done to ensure that that lifet
35 minutes, 24 seconds
is doing batching recycling because obviously ultimately these cars batching will be recycled. We don't have enough coming back justify investing because so
35 minutes, 33 seconds
few of them they will change like growth where we do a lot of volume.
35 minutes, 38 seconds
Um but we don't foresee any major battery fire the lifespan of the vehicle cuz that's not being charged like a plug.
35 minutes, 46 seconds
Well it is it's being directly charged all the time but directly by the vehicle not from the power that also increases the battery if you're charging with a a
35 minutes, 55 seconds
home charger or a DC charger or a fast DC charger. it does impact if you charge 40 to 100% versus charging to 80% it has
36 minutes, 3 seconds
an impact. So the battery life cycle management is quite a thing when it comes to these sort of vehicles. Um and I think the most fundamental thing that
36 minutes, 10 seconds
people's fear is that you know you buy a new cell phone and within 18 months the battery doesn't last as long but you must bear in mind you're using your cell phone kind of 24/7. Your
36 minutes, 20 seconds
battery on your battery is only being used when you drive the vehicle. So to replicate your iPhone or your Samsung
36 minutes, 27 seconds
phone usage on a car is decades longer versus the same period. I think a lot of people are are scared because when you
36 minutes, 35 seconds
associate Toyota, you think of longevity. And now with a lot of Chinese brands coming into play, when people start talking about hybrids and
36 minutes, 43 seconds
batteries and even the news overseas about Teslas, when the battery is worth more than the car when it needs to be replaced or somebody blows it up with a
36 minutes, 50 seconds
rocket launcher, this is the kind of thing that that comes into South Africans's minds when they go, "Okay, cool. The start of the RAV range is now a hybrid, but what is that going to look
36 minutes, 59 seconds
like in 20 years from now?" So are you saying that despite the 8year warranty if if my mom buys a ra and 15 years from now her battery shits the bed you'll
37 minutes, 8 seconds
still I don't know if it does that but if it you'll still replace it even out of warranty. So we we'll definitely will review it.
37 minutes, 16 seconds
Obviously if it's used and if you set it on fire with some no no replace it but generations we will respect that
37 minutes, 24 seconds
because I think that's the I don't know if you guys can agree. I feel like that's the general scare factor for South Africans like what is the battery going to cost to replace
37 minutes, 32 seconds
it is a big also work very aggressively battery prices I don't before you ask what is it though on a Prius like price
37 minutes, 41 seconds
I think our replacement batteries 25 or 30,000 on a yeah so if you normal batteries it's a
37 minutes, 51 seconds
lot more so we work on it to make sure that that fear is reduced at the end of the day but it will come down and uh over time it will evolve. So as the technology
37 minutes, 59 seconds
becomes more rap more widely adopted more utilized so the R&D costs are reduced the overall cost of the battery drop so it becomes more of a look I
38 minutes, 8 seconds
don't think there'll ever be the price of a 9 vol 12 battery having started but it will come down to a point where there's a disconnect between total value
38 minutes, 16 seconds
of the car and total value of the battery but historically it has been very high I'll let you explore this topic some
38 minutes, 24 seconds
more time check with the room if there's anything I sorry Rian if I may. Um just
38 minutes, 30 seconds
on thread there on the Chinese right cars are getting market acceptance um you know it says motor engineers killed
38 minutes, 39 seconds
and just given one their ultimate vote of confidence.
38 minutes, 42 seconds
Do you anticipate that cheaper Chinese PVS are going to erode your market share? Because I see like in that price
38 minutes, 51 seconds
band from you know under 700,000 rand there's a lot of I don't think there any other legacy brands in that ballpark.
38 minutes, 59 seconds
I think there's a couple of points to touch on then it's a good question and a tough question.
39 minutes, 8 seconds
The Chinese brands have been very strong in entering the lower ends of the segment, driving customers down. We've
39 minutes, 16 seconds
seen changes in segment size and and segment growth based on this behavior of customers buying down into potential Chinese brands.
39 minutes, 27 seconds
Conversely, the Chinese super hybrids, plug-in hybrids, etc. do not hold that price advantage versus if we want to
39 minutes, 35 seconds
call it legacy or mainstream brands. So we believe this vehicle is priced competitively for selling you the Toyota
39 minutes, 44 seconds
pedigree of QDR in a new energy vehicle space.
39 minutes, 49 seconds
The Chinese competitors are very much challenger brands. So their strategies are very aggressive in pricing in terms
39 minutes, 57 seconds
of warranty service etc. A lot of that includes some fine print that the customer needs to read quite carefully.
40 minutes, 5 seconds
Um but it is a changing landscape but we believe this product with what it offers and in the segment the new D segment cuz
40 minutes, 15 seconds
the D7 has changed right from if you look 5 years ago the volume the segment did the average price point the top
40 minutes, 23 seconds
sellers etc to where the segment occupies space in the market now has changed but we are confident in where
40 minutes, 31 seconds
we've positioned RAV as predominantly in NV offering and that it offers all of
40 minutes, 38 seconds
the tech, all of the NE features with the backing of our DA network, our history, our QDR.
40 minutes, 47 seconds
Anything you'd like to add to that?
40 minutes, 51 seconds
Look, I think it's no surprise that if you come in very aggressively into a market with a good product, but
40 minutes, 59 seconds
exceptionally good pricing, you are going to chase dynamics. We we won't chase it. It's not our style. Um I think
41 minutes, 6 seconds
what we what we are known for we will continue to predict which is QR all the traditional Victoria
41 minutes, 14 seconds
it's desirable positioning that it is will the Chinese have any metals we'd be foolish to say not what the extent will
41 minutes, 21 seconds
be I think time will tell how long they can sustain those aggressive pricing is another question and I'm not questioning the quality of
41 minutes, 30 seconds
the product I'm just saying is at the moment they do as as Rian that offer an extremely attractive price point um which is supporting their body growth.
41 minutes, 42 seconds
Will that sustain? I don't know. I hope not. Um from from a from a manufacturer point of view, but obviously from a business perspective, from a consumer
41 minutes, 49 seconds
point of view, it's a benefit. And what we're seeing essentially is a massive transition to people that traditionally bought used vehicles moving into a new
41 minutes, 56 seconds
car space. So they're changing the nature of the market size. So I'm not seeing or we're not seeing a decline in
42 minutes, 4 seconds
the demand for our vehicles. We're just seeing that the market is getting bigger because people that traditionally would have bought a used vehicle and now purchasing a new Chinese sourced vehicle
42 minutes, 13 seconds
and therefore making the market bigger and as such our share in relative terms is dropping. But in terms of the volume we plan to achieve or have been aiming
42 minutes, 21 seconds
to achieve, we're achieving those volumes and in some cases exceeding them. So as a shed it might be coming down but as a body we're comfortable
42 minutes, 28 seconds
with the space that we're in. I hope that answers your question. Thanks.
42 minutes, 34 seconds
A very boring technical question. The 2 L petrol same gearbox CVT as all the others or has it got a normal auto box?
42 minutes, 41 seconds
It's CVT CVT that powertrain is carry over from previous generation.
42 minutes, 49 seconds
Craig, um I from the the power figures I see giving us like combined kilowatts and that what the Newton meters be.
42 minutes, 58 seconds
So this is always a tricky a tricky one in Toyota.
43 minutes, 3 seconds
TMC do not provide us aggregate torque figures. They'll provide you the electric motor torque figures. If you
43 minutes, 10 seconds
don't have those on your we can get them. We can get them. They don't quote it as a combined figure. So we can
43 minutes, 18 seconds
supply that to you and tell you the electric motor gives X and the petrol engine gives Y.
43 minutes, 22 seconds
Always just add you there's some technical explanation that the engineers simple reason is how it works is it kicks in and assists.
43 minutes, 32 seconds
It's not a permanent assistance.
43 minutes, 34 seconds
So some manufacturers in the previous question will quote those numbers. It's official type of
43 minutes, 41 seconds
numbers where the performance cannot be constantly we don't quote it. So they're probably doing at at their peak assistance. This is where where
43 minutes, 50 seconds
correct. So I mean as to point that's dependent on state of charge of the battery age of the battery
43 minutes, 57 seconds
atmospheric conditions a lot of factors that play into that. It's quite a technical thing which is why our engineers say they don't provide that aggregate figure because it's dependent.
44 minutes, 8 seconds
it is optimum perfect world conditions that those two figures are going to see temperature manufactured claims that
44 minutes, 17 seconds
it produces quite substantial performance figures. So we we did a test I won't name the manufacturer but we did the test
44 minutes, 24 seconds
and we couldn't understand why our vehicle with substantially less power delivered substantially more performance. Yeah.
44 minutes, 32 seconds
So we took the vehicle to a dyno and we tested the vehicle and it delivers that performance for the exact total of 5 seconds. So technically
44 minutes, 40 seconds
from a point of view they can go on the market and say our car delivers x performance customers are buying that performance. Yeah.
44 minutes, 48 seconds
Is 5 seconds really that performance?
44 minutes, 52 seconds
That's that's your the same happens in the same deal that we do when I do
44 minutes, 58 seconds
testing. You know, it will stay consistent. You test a highly rated high torque. First run's pretty good. Second
45 minutes, 7 seconds
rate, third goes down. Fourth might not even happen. So it it's not something that's repeatable. That's the only drawback. It's starting 5 seconds. guard
45 minutes, 16 seconds
with 5. Greg, we've put the figures up here. We They weren't in the deck because of the explanation. There they are for reference.
45 minutes, 25 seconds
Don't quote us officially on them, but they are up on the screen for interesting. Cool.
45 minutes, 30 seconds
And then I don't know if I maybe missed it, but estimated uh range of the plug-in hybrid, 140 km was a development
45 minutes, 40 seconds
target. Once again that's dependent on real world conditions state of charge battery etc. But that was the
45 minutes, 47 seconds
development target for the trick is to encourage customers and this is actually one of the issues
45 minutes, 56 seconds
that's been and at the time it seemed bizarre why when Europe started introducing their stringent regulations with regards to
46 minutes, 4 seconds
reduction of emission control the plugins initially were excluded because people don't necessarily charge them sounds bizarre to buy a car that offers
46 minutes, 12 seconds
this benefit and not charge it but there are many with it. It's a hassle. I mean, it's a small hassle to go plug it in, but you need to go plug it in somewhere or you need to invest in the home
46 minutes, 21 seconds
infrastructure to charge it at home. If you don't do that, it's a hassle. So, a lot of people don't use plugin benefit,
46 minutes, 28 seconds
but if you do, it's basically the range that it's got now for your dayto-day usage.
46 minutes, 37 seconds
And you can still squeeze,000 km out of it.
46 minutes, 41 seconds
Now, the trick is home charge. If you're going to invest in it, I've got a home charger. Have a home charger. You plug the thing in, you never use it. It's
46 minutes, 47 seconds
actually for me it's such a brilliant thing. You just don't use fuel unless some sort of long road trip. It's just
46 minutes, 59 seconds
No, it changes. And that's why we don't grow these numbers because the experience you have with everything supercharged is unreal. If everything's
47 minutes, 6 seconds
not supercharged, it's not the same. So it's a little bit misleading say all this amazing it's not permanent it's it's transition
47 minutes, 14 seconds
unofficially we tested a competitor product with its battery depleted and it was not nowhere near the
47 minutes, 22 seconds
performance figures of the charge it is a compliment system
47 minutes, 32 seconds
but hybrid is the the current lowly adopted solution for anything all manufacturers offer a hyper formulation.
47 minutes, 39 seconds
Um so yes, everybody went mad into BBS and dialed back a little bit. HV is where it is. I think PHV when the
47 minutes, 46 seconds
costing looks a little more attractive will be the next evolution and then ultimately move to BBS for those that are concerned about light battery or cost of replacement battery.
47 minutes, 58 seconds
It's that evolution.
48 minutes, 1 second
Okay, everyone happy? Thank you very much.
