Die Kontrak's Deidré Barnard releases debut single!
Deidré Barnard shot to fame after ending third in the first season of the South African reality series, Die Kontrak, under the watchful eye of talented singer-songwriter, Dewald Wasserfall.

Now the young star is back in the spotlight with her first single… which she wrote herself!
BESKERM JOU HART is a beautiful modern pop song about staying true to yourself in difficult times and was inspired by Proverbs 4:23.
“I have been hurt many times and learned the hard way that people’s intentions aren’t always as pure and good as they seem,”
shares the newcomer.
“What I wanted to convey with this song, was the things that have always carried me through these difficult times: Knowing who I am, what’s important and Who I believe in. If you are able to stay true to yourself and keep the faith, nothing that life throws at you will be able to keep you down.”
The song was produced by Robin Kielly and is very special to her. She also believes that the message will appeal to a broad audience.
The music video, produced and directed by Gerhard van Rooyen, will also be available soon.
Deidré Barnard grew up in Strand in the Western Cape. She has been singing for as long as she remembers, and made her musical debut in 2018, after ending third in Die Kontrak.
Since then, the artist signed a record deal with Inhoud Huis Musiek and not only starred in the musical, Die Gelofte: ’n Musiekblyspel in the role of Magriet, but also got the opportunity to fill in for Bernice West as the female lead.
Singing and writing meaningful music with a strong message, is very important to her which is why she relates to musicians like Taylor Swift, Bernice West, Refentse, Riana Nell, Elandré and Chris Stapleton, with whom she would all like to collaborate someday.
If she had to choose a different career, she would still want to be creative and make a difference. She reveals that she would like to own a flower farm, with a restaurant on the premises where people can eat and enjoy nature, and that she would also like to write a novel someday.
Her plans for 2023 include releasing an EP, relocating to Pretoria and starting her own music school. She will also be part of the musical, Die Kaplyn, and hopes to do as many live shows as possible.
