Change is seldom easy, but it is inevitable and the best thing we can do is to embrace it, which is exactly the message Haylea Heyns wanted to convey with her latest single, COLD WATER.

Originally written as an Ed Sheeran-style ballad, the up-tempo pop song was co-produced by Durban producers Markus Els and Tom Watkeys and offers a unique blend of catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics that are easy to sing along to.

COLD WATER is a metaphor about embracing change. I am someone who always plays it safe, but lately I have been challenging myself to push the boundaries of my comfort zone,”

she explains about the track she co-wrote with Tom Watkeys.

“Every time I have taken a step out of my safe space, it has been incredibly scary, but I have grown as a result. The purpose of this song is to encourage people to do the same. It is never pleasant diving into ‘cold water’, but the feeling afterward is exhilarating.”

On a more personal level, the song is also about allowing yourself to fall in love for the first time and not resisting a relationship because you are scared to open up.

The music video for this empowering anthem will be released on 22 April 2022.

COLD WATER follows the release of her seventh single and music video, Sorry, which was very well received and got playlisted on several major radio stations.

Haylea was born and raised in Empangeni and has always been passionate about music. After school she studied BA Music and Drama Performance and graduated Cum Laude.

She made her musical debut in 2018 and has had many career highlights since, including being named Durban Artist of the Year at the 2021 City Awards, having the honour of singing the South African National Anthem and the British National Anthem at big international rugby matches and working with several SAMA acclaimed artists like Connell Cruise and Mark Stent.

In addition to writing and recording music and doing live performances, Haylea is also a published children’s book author, as well as a skilled copywriter and content creator.

Her music can be described as a form of poetry that reflects her own life experiences and emotions, and COLD WATER is a brilliant example of the fact.

“There is something incredibly satisfying (and scary at the same time) about sharing your feelings (and your creative work) with the rest of the world. You always want people to like it, but I believe that it should never be your sole focus. As long as I am proud of the material I am putting out there, I am content,”

she concludes.
