Celebrity cook-off takes Simply Asia store in Boskruin by storm
Simply Asia, the national Thai dining franchise, hosted their first ever Ready Steady Wok event at their Boskruin store in Randburg, Johannesburg on Wednesday 1 March. This launch event was the first in a series of four events that will see Simply Asia crown a local celebrity as the Ultimate Wok Star.
Wednesday’s event saw two celebrities battle it out in front of a live audience (in-store) to see who had the best Thai cooking skills. On the one side was open-form DJ (turntablist extraordinaire) DJ Soosh, who also opened the event with one of his sets. And on the other was The Voice SA’s Thapelo Lekoane.
Each team was tasked with making two dishes from the Simply Asia menu, the 314 (also known as the Khao Phad Thai which is a scrumptious Thai fried rice dish with beef) and 514 (the Ba-Mee Prik Phao which is a fiery roasted chili paste and cashew nut noodle dish with chicken). They were encouraged and supported by TV and radio personality Buhle Moletsane, Ready Steady Wok’s official MC.
The competition was fierce but in the end it was DJ Soosh who walked away with the prize.
Simply Asia will be hosting another two Ready Steady Wok semi-final events (Norwood on 15 March and Parktown Quarter on 29 March). The winning celebs from these two events will join semi-finalist DJ Soosh and will go onto the grand finale at the Fourways store on Saturday 8 April where they will fight for the title of Ultimate Wok Star.
