Chery South Africa adds a darker edge to the Tiggo 7 with new Distinction Dark Edition
Chery South Africa has introduced the Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition, a new derivative that brings more distinctive styling, additional safety equipment and an upgraded transmission to the Tiggo 7 range.
Priced at R415,900, the Dark Edition builds on the Tiggo 7 Distinction with a series of exterior and interior changes, while retaining the practicality and accessible positioning of the five-seat family SUV.
A more assertive identity
The Dark Edition is distinguished by its blacked-out exterior treatment. A dark-finished grille, window surrounds and alloy wheels create a stronger visual contrast and give the Tiggo 7 a more purposeful road presence.
The model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is also equipped with rear privacy glass. In addition to complementing the dark exterior theme, the privacy glass limits visibility into the rear compartment and helps reduce ultraviolet light and solar heat entering the cabin.
The darker theme continues inside, where black faux-leather upholstery and complementary detailing create a cohesive cabin treatment. The multifunction steering wheel is trimmed in faux leather and offers four-way manual adjustment.
New dual-clutch transmission
The Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition is powered by Chery’s turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine, producing 108 kW and 210 N.m of torque.
The engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, replacing the continuously variable transmission previously used in the Distinction. Power is delivered to the front wheels, with Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes allowing the vehicle’s responses to be adapted to different conditions.
Combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 L/100 km on the WLTP cycle. Based on its 51-litre fuel tank, the Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition has a theoretical range of approximately 739 km.
Expanded safety specification
One of the most significant upgrades is the addition of seven airbags, including side curtain airbags. This represents an increase from the four airbags offered in the previous Distinction specification and provides more extensive protection across the cabin.
The passive-safety package is supported by a high-strength safety cage incorporating hot-stamped steel. Tyre-pressure monitoring, an anti-theft alarm, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines are also standard.
Connected and convenient
A curved dual-screen display dominates the dashboard, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen.
The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and intelligent voice commands, while sound is delivered through a six-speaker audio system. Keyless entry, one-button start and dual-zone climate control are included as standard.
The Dark Edition also gains a power tailgate with smart-key operation, making the luggage compartment easier to access when loading shopping, luggage or other bulky items.
At 4,553 mm long, 1,862 mm wide and 1,686 mm high, the Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition retains the established dimensions of the Tiggo 7. Its 2,670 mm wheelbase contributes to a spacious passenger compartment and a practical footprint for everyday family use.
Four exterior finishes are available:
- Khaki White
- Carbon Black
- Phantom Grey
- Black and White two-tone.

The Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition is covered by a five-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and a five-year/75,000 km service plan. The first owner also receives Chery’s 10-year/1 million km engine warranty, the balance of which is also transferred to the second owner through the manufacturer’s Cherished preowned programme.
The new Chery Tiggo 7 Distinction Dark Edition is priced at R415,900.
