Christmas comes to Middelburg
Middelburg Mall and Middelburg Rotary Club welcome the festive season with a heart-warming evening of Carols and Lights.
The festive season is finally here and its arrival was officially celebrated with sparkle and song at the switching on of Middelburg Mall’s Christmas lights at 7pm on Thursday 1 November.
To ring in the season, the community gathered in Middelburg Mall’s Woolworths Court, and sang Christmas Carols together. Adding their beautiful voices to the event, the Middelburg Mall car guards’ choir performed for the audience and joined in the singing.
The Rotary Club’s Christmas lights twinkled on the lamp posts along the parking lanes at Middelburg Mall this year. This long-time Middelburg tradition was previously displayed on street lights along the town’s main roads. They are a firm festive favourite with local families.
The lights are beacons of hope and the project brings great joy to children each year. They are a major fund-raiser for Middelburg Rotary Club’s projects. Companies are encouraged to contact the club to adopt a light in return for a plaque on a lamp post in recognition of this support.
Adding to the happy glow, Middelburg is also displaying its own new outdoor lights in the parking area.
A highlight of the festive season opening event was lighting up a colourful seven-metre Christmas tree, made from brightly lit trolleys, outside the mall. It creates a fun and festive attraction that is well worth seeing.
In the spirit of giving, guests at the event arrived with toys to donate, which Middelburg Rotary Club will give to a local children’s home.
Middelburg Mall General Manager Mike Tammadge says:
“We’re absolutely delighted to celebrate the start of the Christmas season at such a wonderfully enjoyable event with caring and community at its heart.”
