De Hoop’s MTB Vlei Experience

De Hoop Collection is happy to announce that the MTB Vlei MTB Experience will take place at De Hoop Nature Reserve from Friday 21 to Monday 24 September 2018.
The De Hoop Nature Reserve provides a backdrop of unparalleled beauty to this three-day Mountain Bike challenge which takes place in the height of the whale-watching season, in a region that is renowned as the best land-based whale watching site in the southern hemisphere - riders will not only experience and enjoy the excitement and exhilaration of the ride but will also have the opportunity of possibly spotting whales, the (now almost extinct) Cape Vultures, the De Hoop ‘regulars’ of Bontebok, Eland, Cape Mountain Zebra and the more than 260 species of birds that inhabit De Hoop.
Guests arrive on Friday 21 September 2018 for a three-night stay - cyclists are encouraged to bring their families and supporters – the race entry fees include all meals for cyclists. Departure on Monday 24 September will be after a morning ride.
Tented accommodation, of a single two person tent per rider is included in the event entry fee, but accommodation upgrades, including luxury tents and the choice to book into any of the superb De Hoop Collection chalets or luxury suites, are also available.
Whether you stay in luxury, or camp out under the stars – you will enjoy the beauty of De Hoop either way - and for those who prefer their creature comforts the De Hoop Collection offers a range of accommodation from the affordable to the more luxurious suites.
Special activities for spectators and family of riders - De Hoop has planned fun activities and events family for the bikers’ families and friends’ to make the most their stay at De Hoop and relaxing Spa treatments for the spectators.

- 08h30 - Nature Quest Fun Run (+ 5km) - a fun run through de Hoop learning as you go with clues about the beautiful natural surroundings as you go! R95 for children 12 and under/ R195 for adults
- 11h00 and 15h00 - Eco Boat Cruise (duration 1.5 -2 hours) - explore the Vlei and enjoy bird, game, otter and even porcupine sightings. Morning cruises include tea, coffee as well as pastries and croissants with jam and cheese. Guests opting for the evening cruise can enjoy house wines, local beers, juices and savoury snacks. R350pp – children 12 and under R175
- 20h30 - Scorpion Hunt and Smores – after supper Scorpion Hunt with smores and hot chocolate in the boma around campfire or with braziers - R50 for children 12 and under /R95 for adults
Sunday 23 September
- 08h00 - Guided Marine Walk (Low Tide: 08h20) -duration +-2 hours - a walking trail exploring coastal rock pools and sandy beaches while a qualified guide points out interesting marine life forms. Also a great way to experience the Southern Right Whales in the bay. R200 pp – children 12 and under R100
- 11h00 and 15h00 – the Eco Boat Cruise
- 19h00 - Family Night Ride (+ 5km) - bring everyone’s bikes and enjoy time with the family on a fun night ride! Complimentary
