At FIBO Global Fitness Africa presented by Dis-Chem Pharmacies we will not only be assisting you to find your FIT in FITNESS, but we will also be giving you an opportunity to find your FIT with a PURPOSE.

Introducing the Virtuosity Foundation, a non-profit company that runs fitness events in aid of closing the literacy gap in South Africa. All proceeds from their events are in aid of the purchase of books for Grade 3 and 4 learners in Soweto, as part of the Read to Rise initiative.

For further information and to see how you can be part of this amazing initiative see the detail included.  The Virtuosity Foundation gives you the opportunity to ensure that every rep you take will really make a difference.

THE VIRTUOSITY FOUNDATION / VIRTUOSITY GAMES EVENTS
The Virtuosity Foundation is a non-profit company (Registration number: 2017/413428/08), NPO and PBO registration in progress) established in 2017 to host fitness events in support of existing initiatives aimed at closing the literacy gap in South Africa.

In an effort to make a measurable difference and impact in the area of literacy, we decided to align our efforts with the Read to Rise NGO, and to allocate income from the 2018 Virtuosity Events to the purchase of books in support of the Read to Rise Soweto initiatives.

It is our aim and goal in 2018, to purchase 1,600 books necessary for the learners in Grade 3 and Grade 4 in Naledi, Soweto, to own their very own book and grow the love of reading.

READ TO RISE
Read to Rise is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting youth literacy in schools in South Africa’s under-resourced communities.  Founded in 2013 by husband and wife team, Athol Williams and Taryn Lock, this organisation operates entirely on the belief that children need to read in order to rise in their personal development and contribution to society.

Children who love reading, excel at school and go on to become constructive members in society. Read to Rise aims to address the disturbing reality that children in under-resourced communities are not reading as much as they require for their educational development.

Children in the foundation phase should be reading 40 books per year while these children are reading only 1 to 2 books per year.

In 2015, Read to Rise introduced their efforts in Soweto, namely 20 primary schools in Naledi and Zola.  The 20 primary schools in Soweto, mainly in Naledi, have roughly 40 Grade 3 and 40 Grade 4 classes, serving 1,600 children.  This is an area with major socio-economic difficulties where learners cannot afford to pay any fees.

VIRTUOSITY GAMES EVENTS
While the focus has historically been on CrossFit events within the Gauteng and national CrossFit community, the Virtuosity Foundation’s intention is to broaden the focus, to include other sports disciplines, embracing the sports and fitness community at large. This provides the opportunity not only for more diverse events but, also to enlarge the community that supports the Virtuosity Foundation and increase the impact we might have in making a real difference to the literacy crisis facing our Country.

The Virtuosity Foundation first two Virtuosity Games events of 2018 took place on 21 April in Northriding at Train Boutique Fitness and 21 July at B4C Fit Factory in Edenvale respectively and have allowed us to raise in excess of R28 000 to date, representing 560 books for kids in Soweto.  Their third event is scheduled to take place in November 2018.

HOW YOU CAN ASSIST?
The main areas of support that we require are athlete support at our events and sponsorship support (product support) to enable us to enhance the athlete experience and reward them for their support in order to help us reach our goal of 1600 books. If you  would like to join the Virtuosity Foundation at one of their events or are able to support them in any way please contact Farhana Booley on 082 924 1328 or Susie Parker on 082 379 0274 or visit their website (www.virtuosityfoundation.co.za) or social media pages for more information.
