Free Rabies Vaccinations This Saturday
The risk of Rabies infections has generally been more of an upcountry concern, but with the recent increase in cases in the Western Cape it’s now a growing risk here too. Though this may, in part, be due to cases of rabies in the Cape Fur Seal population, the barrier between wildlife and domestic animal diseases is porous. With this increased risk to our animals TEARS is stepping in to help.
This Saturday, 26 September, from 10am to 2pm, the TEARS Veterinary Hospital will be offering free rabies vaccinations for all dogs and cats - private and community animals alike. This ties in perfectly with the World Rabies Day (28 Sep) theme for 2026: Stronger Together. Because a community turning out to protect its own pets is exactly that in action.
Rabies vaccinations are typically only required every three years, but given the current increased risk in the region, annual vaccination is now recommended. Either way, if your pet's vaccination status is due (or you're just not sure) this weekend is the easiest, most affordable way to sort it out.
No bookings needed, it's first come, first served. Just head to TEARS Veterinary Hospital at 4 Lekkerwater Road in Sunnydale (also the TEARS Kennels) on Saturday between 10am and 2pm with your pet and help keep your community safer.
