I Love My Hood The African Braaihouse & Garden
It’s been a few months of lockdown and with the country staying at home; we are now venturing out again, but this time into the unknown.
We look forward to connecting, eyes over masks, interacting with people and starting to get our new rhythms in place. In our hood, we are grateful and prefer to look at life’s silver linings. I Love My Hood is a creative collective, using new-reality thinking to create new ways to employ and empower people through a series of business projects that celebrate South African ingenuity and creativity, style and flair, ubuntu and community. It includes staff, proprietors, artists, creatives, waiters, barmen, artisans and cooks who are all battling to find a “new norm”.
While we have all reacted in different ways to the COVID-19 pandemic COVID-19, we are all casting out into unchartered waters, to solve the challenges that our communities are facing, but what defines us is that I Love My Hood is doing so with honesty, responsibility, gratitude, and love.
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant we need to do things safely and with a new reverence of social distancing and sanitising and all these things are on our daily checklist that we take very seriously; we have reimagined what life will be like in the next months and put our ideas down in concrete to be able to laugh, love and live. Our first food-related creative project is The African Braaihouse & Garden, which has now opened its doors and will be serving take-aways – pop in and enjoy in our beautiful braaihouse garden, where you can select your meats from our butcher, the meat will be braaied on site by our braai master while you wait or have it delivered at a time that suits you by one of our drivers.
We have an extensive sanitising system in place to ensure that take-away clients can come in and wait in a safe and sanitised space; we have hand and foot sanitisers, temperatures will be taken and a spray booth is in place. Our staff are screened and our contact is minimal, to ensure our customers have peace of mind when walking in to place an order.
The African Braaihouse & Garden is situated in Queen Street, Kensington and will deliver to Kensington, Bruma and Bedfordview. We are open from 11am to 9pm.
