There's a certain magic in numbers. One person giving R50 a month is generous. A few hundred people doing the same thing on a consistent basis?

Now that's going to have an impact. It’s the kind of reliable support that lets an animal welfare organisation plan ahead. Enter the Woof & Whiskers Club.

What is the Woof & Whiskers Club?

The Woof & Whiskers Club is TEARS Animal Rescue’s monthly giving programme. The concept is simple: commit to a R50 monthly debit order and join a growing community of animal lovers whose combined generosity funds the day-to-day work of rescuing, treating, and rehoming companion animals. Think about it this way. As individuals, we're strong. United, TEARS is stronger.

There's also a fun incentive built in. Each R50 ticket gives you an entry into a monthly prize draw. Once the club is fully subscribed, payouts work out to one prize of R10,000, two prizes of R3,000, and four prizes of R1,000. That’s seven chances to win each month.

Note: Until the club reaches full subscription, prizes pay out as a percentage of these amounts.

The club has a maximum of 2,000 tickets. If you’d like to increase your odds (and help more animals), you can always buy more through your monthly debit order or by paying upfront for a full year (e.g. R600 for 12 tickets).

Draws will take place in the first week of the new month with the last draw for the year being a bonus draw on 18 December 2026.

Where your R50 actually goes

A monthly ticket is much more than a chance to win a prize. It's a direct contribution to the work TEARS does every day, including:

  • Spay and neuter projects - critical to reducing pet homelessness at the source
  • Mobile clinics and the TEARS veterinary hospital - bringing essential health care to animals in under-resourced communities
  • Animal shelters - providing shelter, rehabilitation and care for up to 200 companion animals at any given time
  • The Community Cat Project - a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programme helping manage feral cat populations across the Western Cape with compassion, not culling

But none of this happens on once-off generosity alone. It happens because people commit to donate on a monthly basis. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. What counts here is consistency.

Why monthly giving matters more than you'd think

A single donation is a meaningful moment. A monthly contribution is a relationship. It means TEARS can budget for ongoing veterinary care, plan shelter capacity and keep mobile clinics running in the communities that need them most. And they can do all of this without waiting to see what comes in each month.

Become a member

Joining the Woof & Whiskers Club costs less than a takeaway coffee run for you and your bestie. Not that we're suggesting you give up caffeine - for many of us, it's non-negotiable. But skip your fix just once a month and the return is one that really matters: safer streets for community cats, healthier animals in shelters and a fighting chance for the ones who need it most. Tea anyone?
