Legend Runner and Haval take over Pelindaba
This past weekend saw the area of Pelindaba known more for the nuclear power plant and the exquisite rocky outcrops as well as its picturesque beauty come alive with amateur athletes from all ages taking on the Legend Runner event.
Legend Runner is a spectacular and legendary obstacle Race catering for everyone of all ages and walks of life with 3 amazing distances to choose from and what's more it is absolutely family friendly.
Depending on skill and fitness level, entrants had the choice of entering 5km, 8km or the ultimate, 16km obstacle course which took the entrants over obstacles, through mud holes and various other muscle stretching and body tingling challenges. Haval Southern Africa is a proud sponsor of the Legend Runner series and National Sales Manager Jay Jay Botes had this to say about the event
"Haval and GWM are built tough and robust as well as agile and that's why we thought it was an obvious synergy for us to sponsor this event. What's more is it's family orientated which is what we believe in namely family values and showcasing our range of bakkies and SUVs at the events all over SA was an easy decision to make."
The event organizer Ferdinand Rabie of Big Brother SA fame said this about the event in his usual boisterous and excitable manner.
"The Legend Runner, previously known as StrongmanRun in South Africa, is now in its 4th consecutive year in South Africa. It's one of the biggest mass start obstacle races in Africa and The Legend Runner has been one of the Highlights on the race calendar due to the spectacular location in Paarl with its absolute beauty and the fact that there is something for every runner, young and old. Each year we see thousands of runners complete the race not only from South Africa but from all over the world. The Legend Runner is not just another race but an experience you will keep with you for life. We go the extra mile to make the race memorable and unique. The Legend Runner has a tradition of runners dressing up as different characters for the event and over the years we have seen some amazing and creative costumes. I know all my team and I really appreciate the creativity and team spirit shown by all runners when they put in so much effort into their attire, It's an absolute honour to host the Legend Runner in South Africa, showing the world what South Africans are made of."
Rabie added,
"This year we hosted the event in North West at Africaland- GoWild for the first time ever, we had just over 500 registrations over 2 days which wasn't bad for the first time around and the event holds huge potential for the future. Paarl has grown to be quite popular after 3 years. In the first year we had 850 participants, in year 2 we had 2300 participants and last year we had 3246 participants. This year we are expecting to cap at 2500 participants per day, which means we will have an average of about 5000 participants over 2 days."
The feedback from runners at the North West event this past weekend was extremely positive and everyone seemed eager to come back next year and get down and dirty once more, challenging themselves and their friends on the course knowing full well that Legend Runner is not about the winners since everyone taking part is a LEGEND.
Haval showcased a full range of SUVs and GWM bakkies at the event with the assistance of their local dealer in the area, Haval Silverlakes. The third and final round of the 2019 Legend Runner series of races will be held in Paarl on the 26 & 27 October 2019.
The event is held over two days with music and good food and the main attraction is the obstacle race of course. Entrants for this event can choose between an 8km or 15km or the gruelling 21km race and then there's a 1km kids race too.
