MasterDrive Driver Search launches - bigger than ever

The MasterDrive Driver Search returns for the fourth time in 2026 and is already shaping up to be the most exciting year yet. With fresh developments and even bigger opportunities, the 2026 Driver Search is not just a competition - it is a once-in-a-lifetime launchpad.

For the first time in the initiative’s history, the Driver Search will select two winners - one male and one female – from a previously disadvantaged background, doubling the opportunity for young South Africans to step into the motorsport spotlight.

Legendary stage

MasterDrive is searching for two aspiring drivers, between 16 and 22, to earn the ultimate prize: the opportunity to compete at the 16th Simola Hillclimb, from 30 April to 3 May 2026.

This year, they are encouraging female drivers to enter, consequently, doubling the opportunity. The Driver Search demonstrates their commitment to transformation and inclusion in South African motorsport.

The MasterDrive Driver Search opportunity

The iconic 1.9km Simola Hillclimb attracts top-tier drivers internationally.

There are few, if any, other opportunities providing a similar foot in the door to motorsport.

MasterDrive Driver Search winners are fully prepared for the Hillclimb with the support of multiple partners, including:

  • Theoretical instruction
  • Practical on-track sessions
  • Mentorship from previous Driver Search winners
  • Professional preparation to compete alongside South Africa’s top drivers

The 2026 MasterDrive Driver Search is a powerful collaboration between organisations committed to developing young talent and transforming South African motorsport:

  • AA South Africa (new partner for 2026)
  • Castrol
  • Motorsport South Africa (MSA)
  • Race Drive SA (RDSA)
  • Rose Foundation
  • TGN Racing Simulators
  • Century Karting

How to enter

Entry involves a simple six-step process:

  1. Contact your local TGN Race Centre (www.thegamingnetwork.co.za) or another nominated karting centre
  2. Book a session
  3. Complete practice and timed run on either the 1.9km Simola circuit or karting circuit
  4. Scan the QR code on the posters at the facility and upload personal details and best time
  5. Await further instructions via mobile and email
  6. Selected participants will progress through elimination rounds including panel interviews and on-track evaluation
