Movie Review: Forward, Forward, Jump, Jump into The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Ba da da da da da da da, ba da da da da da da or is it Do do do diddido...
If you can work out what tune this is supposed to be, you will probably be a fan of the theme song from the famous Nintendo game Super Mario Bros.
The beloved 1980s video game hits movie screens in a fun-filled animated collaboration between Universal Pictures and the animators who created The Despicable Me and Minions franchise, Illumination.
After leaving their employer Spike, voiced by Sebastian Maniscalco, American-Italian brothers, Mario voiced by Chris Pratt and Luigi voiced by Charlie Day, start their own plumbing business without the support of their family members and much disapproval from their father.
When they hear about a water main leak in their city Mario decided it would be a good idea for him and Luigi to go and fix it. Unbeknownst to Mario, one of the pipes is a Warp Pipe (common transportation method in the video game which is usually green) which is a portal that sucks them into another world.
Mario and Luigi are separated and Mario lands in the Mushroom Kingdom where he is met by a humanoid with a mushroom-like head Toad, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, while Luigi lands in the Dark Lands and is captured by evil toad-like foot soldiers called Koopas.
The leader of the Mushroom Kingdom Princess Peach, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, is on a mission to stop the King of the Koopas Bowser, voiced by Jack Black, while Mario is on his own mission to save his brother.
Mario and the Princess team up to take on Bowser, but they need the help from the residents of the Jungle Kingdom, which is when they meet Donkey Kong, voiced by Seth Rogen, - a fictional gorilla character created for the Donkey Kong and Mario video game series.
The movie includes all the references, characters, tools, and themes of the Mario Bros. game which will take you back to the 80s and 90s with the Nintendo Gameboy.
But if you don't know anything about the Mario Bros. game, the movie is still entertaining and you will learn a lot from this movie about the video game series.
