Nissan's "Re:Nissan" Strategy Delivers: A Look Back at the Transformative Japan Mobility Show 2025

Nissan is making waves with its refreshed global line-up, many of which were on display at the recent Japan Mobility Show for 2025.

The Japan Mobility Show was hosted in Tokyo in the first week of November and it offered Nissan the perfect platform to display its new models, review its Re:Nissan corporate strategy and discuss its product strategy in its home market of Japan.

The new models, such as the new Elgrand minivan, coupled with the market success of the all-new LEAF, the new Roox Kei car, and the updated Skyline sedan, successfully energized Nissan’s presence in Japan and delivered quantifiable growth.

Re:Nissan in Action: From Vision to Market Success

Nissan is shaping the future of mobility through its Re:Nissan plan, which is delivering results in the form of innovative products, intelligent technologies, and memorable customer experiences. This renewed approach fulfilled the company’s commitment to innovation and reinforced long-term growth in the Japanese market.

This success was achieved by refreshing core models, expanding into the vital luxury off-road segment with the Patrol, and introducing signature "heartbeat" vehicles that emotionally resonated with customers and embodied the best of Nissan’s heritage and innovation.

Vision Delivered

Following the successful execution of the plan, Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa reflected,

“A strong, vibrant Japan market is important for Nissan’s global success. We are dedicated to reigniting that spirit by honoring our heritage, launching the Patrol as a new flagship for Japan, elevating the legacy of the Elgrand through electrification and advanced intelligence, and pushing technological boundaries with our EVs."

“Our goal is to offer a range of compelling vehicles, from the smallest Roox to our flagship models, that not only meet daily needs but also inspire emotion and pride.”

The All-New Elgrand: A New Era of Premium Minivan

The highly anticipated fourth-generation Elgrand was successfully launched in the summer of 2026, immediately confirming its position as the new standard in Japan’s premium minivan segment.

Building upon its pioneering legacy, the new model effectively incorporated Nissan’s latest electrified powertrain technologies and sophisticated design, dramatically elevating driving enjoyment and comfort. The launch secured its place as a class leader, known for its smooth, quiet, and elevated ride, making extraordinary journeys a reality for Japanese families.

Design Highlights and Customer Acclaim

  • Timeless Japanese Futurism: The exterior design, featuring a grille motif inspired by the Japanese Kumiko pattern and the commanding new Fuji Dawn hue, was met with critical acclaim for its blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.
  • Lounge Experience: The cabin successfully delivers on the promise of a private, lounge-like atmosphere, with second-row passengers enjoying the comfort of zero gravity captain’s chairs. The segment-first dual 14.3-inch integrated displays provided a seamless, luxurious ambiance.
  • Advanced Powertrain: The launch model, powered exclusively by Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER hybrid system, was praised for its refined performance, significantly quieter operation, and improved fuel efficiency. Its feature of Nissan’s updated e-4ORCE electric four-wheel drive system was frequently cited by drivers for providing impressive handling and stability.

Patrol Conquers Japan: A Return to the Rugged Segment

In the first half of FY27, Nissan will introduce the legendary Patrol to Japan, marking the company’s return to the premium SUV segment after the Safari’s production ended in 2007.

The Patrol’s arrival was a clear success, fulfilling its role as a true ‘heartbeat model’ and demonstrating Nissan’s commitment to delivering vehicles that embody strength, durability, and advanced technology.

Its immediate popularity confirmed Nissan’s leadership in the SUV segment, catering to a strong demand for vehicles that inspire confidence and versatility for both capable off-road adventures and ultra-comfortable urban exploration.

Refreshed Ariya: Strong Performance in the EV Market

The updated Ariya EV crossover recently made a strong entry into the Japan market. The refreshed model, featuring a more refined exterior, the integration of Google-powered infotainment, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and suspension upgrades, is being well-received by Japanese consumers.

The successful launch reaffirmed Ariya’s role in Nissan’s broader commitment to intelligent mobility and a more sustainable future, demonstrating how Nissan EVs actively support energy management, reduce grid dependency, and enable active, environmentally conscious lifestyles.

Other models on display included the new, fourth-generation Nissan Roox. The Roox has since been voted the Japan Car of the Year for 2026.
