Performance with Purpose at Killarney Time Attack
MasterDrive has long been a supporter of South African motorsport, recognising the natural connection between advanced driving skills, vehicle capability and responsible performance. This is reflected at events such as the Simola Hillclimb, where MasterDrive provides safety vehicles and bespoke ride-along VIP experiences.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says that involvement extends to MD Motorsport. “This is MasterDrive’s dedicated driver-performance arm. Events such as Killarney Time Attack, hosted at our home track in the Mother City, provide an ideal platform to bring together performance vehicles, skilled drivers, technology and the disciplines required to use that performance responsibly,” says Herbert.
Killarney Time Attack is a two-day event at Killarney International Raceway on 25 and 26 September 2026. Drivers take on a 2.2 km point-to-point course from a standing start to record the fastest time. The event is powered by MD Motorsport (a division of MasterDrive) and affiliated with Global Time Attack.
MD Motorsport fulfils the purpose of going beyond participation in motorsport. Coastal GM at MasterDrive, Eugene Nourse, explains: “At the heart of the programme is a philosophy called ‘Race to Road.’ It takes the knowledge, experience and learning gained in the controlled, high-performance environment of motorsport and translates it into insights that ultimately improve every day and professional driver development,” says Nourse.
Herbert says for MasterDrive, there is an important connection “As increasingly powerful and technologically advanced vehicles become accessible to everyday motorists, vehicle performance needs to match driver capability. Horsepower, acceleration, braking systems, electronic driver aids and increasingly sophisticated vehicle technology can enhance the driving experience. Ultimately, the driver remains the most important part of the equation.
“This is where MasterDrive brings something distinct to motorsport. MD Motorsport enables taking the principles behind advanced driver development, from vehicle control to anticipation and understanding vehicle dynamics, into the performance environment.”
All improvements to driving include a continuous cycle: experience, understand, learn, transfer and improve. “The objective is not to turn everyday motorists into racing drivers. It is to use what motorsport can teach us to help create better, safer, more aware and capable drivers on the road.
“The environments may be different, but the underlying philosophy remains the same. Develop the driver, respect the vehicle and use performance responsibly. That makes MasterDrive’s involvement in motorsport more than sponsorship. It is ‘Performance with Purpose,’” says Herbert.
