When a fire breaks out, there is no room for hesitation. You need equipment you can trust and a company you can depend on. For more than three decades, SafeQuip has been a leading SABS-approved manufacturer and distributor of firefighting equipment across the African continent.

What sets SafeQuip apart is its various product offerings and uncompromising approach to quality.

SafeQuip offers an extensive range of equipment, including extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, pumps, nozzles, signage, suppression systems, and lay-flat hoses, as well as tools specifically designed for forestry and farming applications. Its offering is designed to cover the requirements of both heavy industry and commercial complexes, as well as smaller private properties.

Every product, whether produced internally or sourced through established partners, is supplied in accordance with strict safety standards and inspected before it leaves the warehouse.

Coverage and scale are crucial in fire safety. SafeQuip’s presence extends across South Africa through branches in Cape Town, Gauteng, Durban and Gqeberha. With this network in place, clients receive consistent support no matter their location. The company’s SABS accreditation and BSI Kitemark approval and links with industry organisations underline its commitment to recognised standards.

In recent years, SafeQuip has also turned its attention to one of the fastest-growing risks in modern life: lithium-ion battery fires.

These batteries power smartphones, laptops, power banks, tools, solar energy storage systems, e-bikes, electric vehicle and more. While popular and convenient for their high energy density, small size, and rechargeable design, lithium-ion batteries bring unique fire challenges very different from those of ordinary flammable materials.

Once a lithium-ion battery overheats, it can enter a process known as thermal runaway, where heat and pressure rapidly escalate. Traditional fire extinguishers are often ineffective in these cases, which is why a new approach has been essential.

SafeQuip responded with its Lith-Ex range, the only certified lithium-ion battery fire extinguishers in South Africa. Lith-Ex extinguishers are designed to attack the very heart of a lithium-ion fire. They use a specialised extinguishing agent that cools the cells rapidly, absorbs the heat, and prevents re-ignition. This focus on cooling is crucial, because once the runaway reaction stops, the fire can be brought under control safely.

The Lith-Ex extinguisher range comes in multiple sizes (1L, 2L, 6L, and 9L models) making them suitable for everything from small household devices to larger-scale risks in warehouses or EV charging facilities. The range carries full SANS 1910-2022 approval, NTA 8133:2021 (KIWA/POOO55865) certification, and have earned KITEMARK™ approval.

SafeQuip looks beyond the present, recognising that fire risks evolve with time. Its mission is to continually adapt so that people, homes, and communities remain protected, regardless of what tomorrow brings.
