Thrillers enter the realm of sports, superheroes and science fiction on Ster-Kinekor’s big screens
January is a great month to experience action thrillers at their best – in crisp resolution and powerful sound on the Ster- Kinekor big screen.

Final Score is a thriller set in the world of sports, with former soldier Michael Knox (Dave Bautista) finding himself trapped inside a football stadium that has been taken over and put under lockdown by a team of mercenaries. Knox is at the game with his niece and must use his combat experience to defeat the highly trained team of mercenaries, alert the police and keep his niece alive.
Final Score releases on 11 January. It’s thrill-a-minute stuff, with a unique premise sure to appeal to sports-mad South African audiences as the larger-than-life Ster-Kinekor experience makes the action real at theatres across the country.

More thrilling than real life in IMAX, is Glass, the climax of the three-part Unbreakable trilogy by M Night Shyamalan.
In IMAX, the most immersive theatre experience, Glass becomes more than a movie, with the DMR process transforming every frame of the film to fully realise the filmmaker’s vision. Two projectors work simultaneously, to bring warmth and sharpness that surpasses reality.
The superhero thriller sees David Dunn (Bruce Willis), a former athlete turned security guard with extraordinary powers, chasing down superhuman killer Kevin Wendell Crumb played by James McAvoy. Crumb has 24 personalities, and his body chemistry changes with every personality, including The Beast – by far the most dangerous of the lot. Orchestrating a series of high-action encounters between the two superheroes is shadowy mastermind and mass killer Mr Glass (Samuel L Jackson).
Glass brings together elements of the previous two movies, Unbreakable and Split, for a spectacular showdown of the superheroes and supervillains. Glass releases on 18 January.
Run time: 2h08m
Age Restriction: TBA

Hitting South Africa’s big screens a week later, on January 25 is Replicas, a science-fiction thriller starring Keanu Reeves as Will Foster, a talented biologist who loses his family in a car accident.
The crack of a twig. The resounding crack of blows against flesh. The deep bass of the soundtrack that you feel in your chest. All explode into body-shaking sound in Ster-Kinekor theatres thanks to the perfectly tuned, high-power sound system.
Consumed with sorrow, Foster sets out to use his skills to bring his wife and children back to life, going against many of the principles of his profession. He plans to do it by successfully transferring human consciousness into a computer and then implanting his family’s thoughts and memories into cloned mechanical replicas. It’s a brilliant solution, but what if something goes wrong?
Foster faces an awful choice. But once he has defied natural laws, he has opened the door to a world he can no longer control. Nothing brings that world to life like the power of the Ster-Kinekor sound-and-vision experience.
Run time: 1h47m
Age Restriction: TBA
