On Mandela Day in 2023, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) proudly launched the Heart on Sleeve initiative in collaboration with Kaizer Chiefs. Heart on Sleeve extends the partnership between the two entities, transforming the sleeve sponsorship into a tangible expression of community support.

This initiative also aims to uplift local non-profit organisations that are dedicated to making a positive difference through South Africa's shared passions: sport and mobility. During its first year, local organisations such as the Alex Royal Tigers and the Zola Sports Facility in Gauteng were selected as beneficiaries. They were provided with full soccer kits and essential equipment, alongside maintenance and coaching clinics.

The event was hosted on the backdrop of the highly anticipated Toyota Cup, which took place on Sunday, 28 July at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. Vice President of Marketing at TSAM, Glenn Crompton emphasises that this initiative consistently reflects dedication to the far-reaching effects of sponsorships.

“We select our sponsorships based on their potential to profoundly impact our communities. After successful initiatives in Gauteng, we are pleased to see this impact extend to Bloemfontein,”

says Crompton.

Aligned with TSAM’s dedication to bolstering mobility, the Heart on Sleeve initiative found a collaborator in the Jean Webber Home for Persons with Severe Physical Disabilities. Managed by the Association of and for Persons with Disabilities Free State (APD), this facility offers crucial accommodation and support to adults facing severe physical disabilities.

Founded in 1976 by disability activist Jean Webber, the Jean Webber Home offers a lifeline to its 37 residents, who live independent lives under the attentive care of personal assistants. This partnership aims to bring much-needed support and resources to the residents and staff of the home, enhancing their quality of life and ensuring they remain integrated within the community.

The day comprised of TSAM and Kaizer Chiefs fulfilling the needs of the home to the value of R 100 000 rands. These included the installation of a brand-new JoJo tank, two computers, uniform for the caregivers, groceries and a goodie bag for the residents.

Jessica Motaung, Marketing Director of Kaizer Chiefs, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating,

“The event itself was an amazing exhibition for our sport, but perhaps the greatest win comes in the form of life-changing support for such an important cause. As ever, we are proud to work hand-in-hand with Toyota and keep scoring goals for South Africa’s future.”

For Crompton,

“There is no greater commitment to mobility than enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities, and we look forward to continuing making a positive contribution to our communities,”

he concluded.
