TRAFFIC ALERT: EXPECTED DISRUPTIONS IN JOHANNESBURG CBD & GLEN AUSTIN (MIDRAND) DUE TO THREE APPROVED MARCHES ON TUESDAY 30 JUNE 2026
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) advises motorists,
commuters, and the public to expect significant traffic disruptions on Tuesday, 30
June 2026.
Three legally approved marches are scheduled to take place concurrently across the
Johannesburg Inner City/Hillbrow and Midrand (Glen Austin) areas. Integrated law
enforcement teams, including JMPD and SAPS Public Order Policing, will be
deployed heavily across the city to monitor routes, manage traffic, and maintain
public safety.
Significant traffic disruptions and delays are anticipated between 07:00 and 16:00.
Furthermore, integrated law enforcement teams will remain on high alert and will be
actively deployed to monitor and manage the entire city before, during, and after the
30th of June. This proactive deployment is aimed at ensuring public safety,
maintaining order, and swiftly responding to any other spontaneous protests, pickets,
or gatherings that may arise during this period.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the affected streets and use alternative routes
where possible.
MARCH 1: MARCH & MARCH PROCESSION
• Organiser: March & March
• Purpose: Inner city safety, youth development, and community service access
• Expected Turnout: 5,000 participants
• Gathering Time: 08:30 | Start Time: 10:00To ensure a universal sense of safety and security
• Duration: 08:00 – 14:00 (Dispersal at 14:00)
• Assembly Point: Beyers Naudé Square
• Destination: Constitution Hill (Submission of memorandum to Hillbrow Station
Commander at 13:00)
• Authorised Parking: Peter Roos Park
Approved Route:
1. Start at Beyers Naudé Square on Rahima Moosa Street.
2. Head East on Helen Joseph Street.
3. Turn left onto Troye Street, which becomes Twist Street.
4. Proceed along Twist Street.
5. Turn left onto Kotze Street.
6. Turn right into Queen Street and proceed to Constitution Hill for the submission of
the memorandum and dispersal.
MARCH 2: LABOUR AND CIVIC ORGANIZATION (LACO) PROCESSION
• Organiser: Labour and Civic Organisation (LACO)
• Purpose: Raising concerns regarding illegal immigration policies and engaging the
Department of Home Affairs
• Expected Turnout: 1,200 participants
• Gathering Time: 08:00 | Start Time: 09:00
• Duration: 09:00 – 12:00 (Dispersal at 12:00)
• Assembly Point: Intersection of Kotze Street & Hospital Street (Hillbrow /
Constitution Hill)
• Destination: Department of Home Affairs (Plein Street)
Approved Route:
1. Start from the intersection of Kotze Street & Hospital Street.
2. Turn right into Klein Street.
3. Turn left into Smith Street.
4. Turn right into Claim Street and proceed until you join Mooi Street.
5. Turn right into Rahima Moosa Street.
6. Turn right into Rissik Street.
7. Turn left into Plein Street up to the Department of Home Affairs for the submission

MARCH 3: MAYIBUTE YOUTH ACTIVISM MOVEMENT LABOUR
MARCH
• Organiser: Mayibuye Youth Activism Movement
• Purpose: Submission of a memorandum to Midrand Industrial Park (M.I.P.)
regarding local youth employment opportunities.
• Expected Turnout: 800 participants
• Gathering Time: 09:00 | Start Time: 10:00
• Duration: 10:00 – 12:00 (Dispersal at 13:00)
• Assembly Point: Dale Rd & Modderfontein Road Open Space.
• Destination: Sandton Plant Hire Office
Approved Route:
1. Start at Dale Road & Modderfontein Road Intersection.
2. Turn left onto Dale Rd.
3. Proceed Pretoria Main Road and turn left.
3. Proceed to Allandale Rd and turn left.
4. Proceed to Mastiff Road and turn left.
5. Continue to Sandton Plant Hire Offices for dispersal.
Safety Advisory for Motorists:
Closures and rolling barricades will be implemented along these routes as the
processions move. Please exercise extreme patience, follow the directions of JMPD
and law enforcement officers on the ground, or plan your travel outside the inner city
during these times.
