Muslims around the World commemorating 15th of Ramadaan as World Orphans Day every year around the Muslim World.

Orphan children and our responsibility towards them.

Tragically, millions of children all over the globe have become orphaned for many reasons: war, famine, displacement, disease or poverty. To make sure that they are not forgotten, once a year there is a special day dedicated just to them: World Orphans Day which falls on the 15th Ramadaan. This special day has been put in place in order to draw attention to the plight of the worlds orphans, and so on this day, people are encouraged to actively participate in helping raise awareness, support and funding for motherless and fatherless children worldwide. A noble cause if there ever was one!

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reported to have said, "One who looks after the orphan whether he is his relative or not, I and he would be like this, and Malik (explained it) with the gesture by drawing his index finger and middle finger close togther" (Sahih Muslim from Abu Hurairah).

Here are some actions you can take this year on World Orphans Day (15th of Ramadaan):

  • Look into your extended family and see if there is any orphans that need your support.
  • Have a discussion on the matter with your family during iftaar of the importance of supporting orphans in islam.
  • Write about orphans on social media.
  • Support our organisation Al Quds Foundation by sponsoring an orphan.
  • Make dua for orphans throughout the blessed month.

Al Quds Foundation team will be spending Eid in Syria with the orphans this year and handing over the Eid Gifts collected from the South African communities and delivering the much needed aid to the Syrian orphans.

Sponsor a Syrian or Gaza orphan for R590 monthly or R7080 annually.
