The start of a visionary project to document how our planet evolves over the next seven years. We face a pivotal moment in the Earth’s history. The future of our precious ecosystems hangs in the balance. This ambitious series meets local eyewitnesses at six vulnerable locations – Iceland, the Amazon, California, Kenya, the Maldives and Cambodia – and records the changes they are experiencing. It also meets the scientists, indigenous groups and conservationists fighting to save these iconic places for the future. Returning every year for seven years, Changing Planet reveals each location’s battle and asks if we are doing enough to save our planet from irreversible change.

 

 

The World's Deadliest Weather

In this fifth series, we explore the deadliest weather through the eyes of the people who have been in the eye of the storm but against all odds, managed to survive. News archive and user generated footage enables us to relive these weather spectacles in astonishing minute-by-minute detail. We see Hurricane Ida destroy homes and lives in Louisiana, high seas and winds force a captain to abandon ship in Norway and in Hawaii, a climber fights for his life.

Griff's Great Canadian Adventure

Join Welsh comedian and travel enthusiast Griff Rhys Jones as he embarks upon a journey across the second largest country in the world: Canada. From mountain ranges and vast prairies to glittering cities and remote Arctic towns, this fascinating series explores how history has shaped Canada and uncovers what makes each province so unique. Griff travels from the rugged Atlantic Coast of Newfoundland to Vancouver in the Pacific Northwest, with each episode involving him undergoing a challenge which reflects the region he is visiting.

 

 

Earth's Great Rivers

Travel along three more of the planet’s most spectacular rivers: the Danube, the Yukon and the Zambezi. In Europe, find out how the Danube is coping with years of human impact. Visit North America’s Yukon and see the rich variety of life that has made this great frozen river home, from musk ox to bears. While in Africa, explore the length of the Zambezi, from a tiny trickle deep in a forest to the thundering Victoria Falls and meet the hippos, elephants, lions and buffalo drawn to its wild waters.

 

 

Exploration Volcano

Extreme volcano hunter Chris Horsley climbs deep inside some of the world's most active volcanoes to gather new scientific data from the very heart of their active lava filled cores. From Africa's Great Rift Valley to Central America's Volcanic Arc, Chris will take us closer than ever to the bowls of the world's most volatile volcanoes located in some of the most inhospitable landscapes on earth. 800 million people live in the shadow of the planet's 1,571 active volcanoes, so Chris isn't putting himself in harm's way for the pure thrill of it - by using innovative techniques, he wants to help predict future eruptions. He'll be installing an "early warning system" for eruptions including gas monitoring systems and surveillance web cameras at their rims to alert scientists and local communities about the ever-changing behaviour of volcanoes.

Meanwhile, Bettany reconstructs the identity and fate of five victims of Mount Vesuvius—one of history's worst natural disasters—leading up to and following its devastating eruption.

As the weeks progress, the pressure ramps up; each of our hopefuls will have to demonstrate absolute excellence in every element of their sewing skill, making or altering items of clothing under intense time pressure. And with more episodes than ever before, can the sewers cope with the extra demand?
