“It was great being able to host The Ballito Pro Free Music Concerts which is a popular festival addition every year,”

said Collette Bundy, Festival Event Organiser.

“The two-night event included a really talented selection of South African singers, DJs and bands, and it was great to be able to celebrate our local talent in person once again.”

The Ballito Pro Free Music Concerts Night 1

The first night of The Ballito Pro Free Music Concerts welcomed South Africa’s favourite Afro-pop siblings – Q Twins. Having made their name when they featured on Idols South Africa, Virginia and Viggy Qwabe from northern KZN have earned their place in South Africa’s music circle. They were joined renowned DJ, record producer and Kwaito star, DJ Tira who has been rocking the local scene for more than two decades.

Another highlight for the night was a new name on the block – the winner of this year’s Ekasi Experience Battle of the DJs. Forming part of The Ballito Pro’s After Dark programme, the Battle of the DJs saw the top 10 DJs fighting it out at Gidela Lounge in Nshaweni. The top contender, DJ Blackzin, took a spot on the Main Stage of The Ballito Pro Free Music Concerts.

Bringing high energy to the Main Stage was Kyle Cassim, known for his deep, soulful house and electronic dance music.

Proudly South Africa singer, Majozi, then blasted the beats. SAMA-nominated for his album, Fire, his heartfelt music communicates an uplifting perspective which has seen him play on the international stage and with local greats.

Then it was time for the unmistakable sound of Desmond & The Tutus who kept the crowd amped as they effortlessly blend rock n roll, indie, kwela and pop with a dash of truly South African flavour. The band’s drummer, Craig Durrant, also got the chance to showcase his specific indie/rock flair when he took to the stage as Yo Grapes.
