Die Hoekhuis Guest House in Cradock

Affordable Accommodation in Cradock
On our recent trip to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), in order to break the 11 hour long journey, we decided to spend the night in Cradock.
While en-route to Gqeberha we realised that we would be travelling through the night and since it was our first time and we were not familiar with the roads, we did not want to risk driving through the night.
We calculated that we would reach Cradock before sunset and that the distance to Gqeberha from Cradock was not long for us to travel the next morning.
As we usually do, we did an online check of a few accommodation places in the area, and we decided on Die Hoekhuis.
Nabihah (my wife and Co-Founder of iloveza.com) called to see if there were any rooms available, and fortunately for us there was one room vacant, as the guest house only has 3 rooms.
We arrived at Die Hoekhuis in Cradock at 18:20.
The guesthouse is located on the corner of Victoria and Hospitaal Streets, which is about 5 streets parallel from one of the main streets, JA Calata Street (Stockenstroom Street).
Hospitaal Street also connects directly onto the N10, which is the route you would need to take to Gqeberha.
On our arrival we were welcomed by a warm and friendly host, Jackie.
The guesthouse has a private, safe and secure parking lot on the premises.
Jackie was kind enough to keep the family room for us - as it was my wife, our six year old son, and myself who required a room for the night. I say this because we found out that the guesthouse was fully booked for the night.
Two of the rooms at the guesthouse have two single beds in each room.
Our room (the family room) had two 3/4 beds and one single bed.
In the bedroom there is a:
- wall-to-wall built in cupboards
- mini fridge
- microwave
- kettle
- iron
- ironing board
- desk fan
- TV with a small DStv bouquet above the single bed
- table with (delicious) Rusks, cutlery and crockery
There is a separate toilet, and a separate bathroom with a "family sized" shower and basin.

The room was very neat and clean, everything was sanitised, and there was a bottle of sanitiser in the room.
We paid R500 for the night, and all the rooms at Die Hoekhuis are the same rate.
The profit earned from the guesthouse is used to provide meals for underprivileged children at ACVV.
Nabihah chatted to Carin van Rensburg, Chief Social Worker of ACVV Cradock, to find out more about the organisation:
Jackie and Carin are wonderful people, and the overnight stay was just what we needed.
