Instant Cameras are both trendy and fun to have.
The New Instax Mini 11 is an easy to use Instant Camera. We recently had the pleasure of testing out this trendy compact camera in the funky sky blue colour.
The camera is lightweight, and requires just two AA batteries to operate.
The AA batteries is a blessing, as sometimes when you are out and want to take a few shots, with some of the digital cameras you might find that you need to charge the battery as it is low, whereas now you can just pop into the closest store that sells batteries (if your AA batteries are low) and you can continue capturing great moments.
If you are planning a trip away, just carry a few extra batteries in case of emergency, which I did on our recent trip with the Instax Mini 11.
There is a low battery indicator, and it will be confirmed by your print not processing if you try to take a photo.
The standard film for the Instax Mini 11 prints 10 photos which are 62 mm × 46 mm in size.
Film is available in Simple, Pattern, and Character frame design.
Simple Film has the following options:
- Sky Blue
- Pink Lemonade
The Pattern Film is available in:
- Blue Marble
- Mermaid Tail
- Candy Pop
- Stained Glass
- Shiny Star
The Hello Kitty is currently the only official Fujifilm Instax Mini Character film
There is one button to switch the camera on which basically pushes the lens out. If you want to take a selfie, you pull the lens out even further and use the selfie mirror next to the lens to guide you before taking a picture.
The button is quite sensitive so do make sure the camera is not on before taking position - we learnt that the hard way!
You can customise your Instax Mini 11 with matching colour straps or colour-coded jewels for your shutter button. There are also glow in the dark shutter button accessories available for the Instax Mini 11.
Albums designed specifically to fit your Instax Mini photos and charming cases with straps are both available in colours to match your Instax Mini 11.
There is no need for any special settings to adjust the brightness before taking a picture, as the new high-performance flash on the Instax Mini 11 automatically calculates the surrounding light and adjusts the shutter speed accordingly.
The Instax Mini 11 has a Selfie Mode feature, and a little mirror on the front of the camera which you use as a guide.
Claims of this Selfie Mode being used to "shoot a subject 30cm to 50cm away to get a clear close-up shot everytime" have been debunked, as we tried it and failed on every attempt.
Our attempts at close-up photographs and low-light photographs were also not what we expected.
There is no onboard storage, but in all fairness the camera is designed to point, shoot, print - no saving or editing for later.
Overall the camera takes pictures and produces them instantly, which is the purpose of the Instax Mini 11, so don't expect high quality detail in the prints or perfectly shot close-ups.
If you are looking for a compact Instant Film Camera, the Instax Mini 11 is an inexpensive and great way to capture those important memories.
The Instax Mini 11's recommended retail price is R999, and you can expect to pay around R299 for a pack of 20 (10 x 2) Instant Film.
