We wish you health, happiness, and much success in the new year as we celebrate the Viennese New Year with a concert conducted by Richard Cock featuring the gifted soloists Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi (Soprano), Phenye Modiane (Tenor), Magdalena de Vries (Marimba) accompanied by the talented Johannesburg Festival Orchestra.
The Viennese New Year Concert is the start of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival's 10 year anniversary celebrations.
The theme for this year's festival is Ein Musikalischer Spass (The Musical Joke), and the Viennese New Year Concert expressed the "fun-iculà" the composers of the 19th and early 20th century had in the creation of the pieces that were performed in this year's programme.
Maestro Richard Cock took us through the history of each composition, like the time Johan Strauss II invited all the Anna, Anne, and Annen's in the town to a concert where he performed "Annen Polka" for them.
The concert is educational and great family fun for a Sunday afternoon. Celebrate the New Year this afternoon at 3pm at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg.
The Johannesburg International Musical Festival has 18 events and runs from 25 January 2019 - 3 February 2019 with the Viennese New Year Concert on the 19th and 20th January 2019.
