It Takes Courage to Change People's Hearts: Green Book Movie Review
Based on a true-story of world-class African American pianist Dr Don Shirley and his tour in 1962 down the Deep South of America with his Italian-American driver Tony Vallelonga.
Nominated for a few Oscars - one which we are sure it would win for Best Picture, the movie shows the cruel reality of racism and segregation which sadly is still pertinent in today's time.
Dr Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) is a highly successful pianist but due to his high intellect and his choice of musical genre that he performs, he can not relate to "his people" as his driver Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) says, and because of the colour of his skin, he is not accepted by the so called "cultured" people of society.
Many great lessons can be learnt from the movie, one of them said by one of Dr Shirley's band members was "It takes great courage to change people's hearts".
This resonated with me as only four years ago when most people were almost at their limit of the racism, crime and corruption in our country, my wife and I decided to start a business called I Love ZA. To show people through all that we go through there's still so much to love about South Africa.
Four years on and the ❤️🇿🇦 that we used as part of our hashtag #iloveza❤️🇿🇦 is being widely used across social media without people even realising the source.
Green Book will make you think and re-think many things in your life and how you portray yourself to others. It's definitely worth a watch and probably a few re-watches.
Catch it in cinemas nationwide from the 15 February 2019.
