It's All About The Vibe at News Cafe Midrand
News Cafe is about the vibe, and the vibe isn't only during the evenings!
Breakfast is an important meal of the day, and we love trying out new breakfast options at trendy eateries around South Africa.
We heard that News Cafe had a few new items on their menu, so we decided to try them out at their restaurant at San Ridge Shopping Centre, Midrand.

Most people (including us) were under the impression that News Cafe is all about the night life, but we were pleasantly surprised to learn that they are open from 7am for breakfast.
When we arrived in the "early hours", people were already seated, sipping on their hot drinks and getting work done on their laptops, while others enjoyed breakfast with their friends/ family / work colleagues.
News Cafe already had a vibe while most other stores hadn't opened or were starting to open, in the area.
For those who wanted to catch up on the latest news, the big screens around the restaurant catered for this need.
The decor is very inviting for people of all ages, with comfy wall couches and the latest in design chandelier over an intimate booth.
A striking piece of wall art is displayed at the entrance of the restaurant. The wall art is made up of white embossed tiles with letters of the alphabet on each tile and a blue luminous message in the middle of the tiles which read "Believe in Yourself"

After taking in all that News Cafe had to offer, it was time to look at the menu and order our food and drinks.
The manager on duty, Ivy, was very friendly and assisted us with all our questions, while Thembi, our waitress for the morning made sure that our meal was to our liking.
The menu has something for everyone and our choice of meals will show how.
A few new drinks have been added to the menu which we tried: Salted Caramel Decadent Freezo and Mango and Pine Fruit Freezo.
If you have a sweet tooth the Salted Caramel Decadent Freezo is a must try, as the sweet creamy caramel will have you licking your lips after every sip.

The Mango and Pine Fruit Freezo is a great summer drink (keep this in mind for those warmer days). With two of our favourite fruits combined into one drink with a refreshingly cool feeling, we would definitely recommend this to all the "fruit fundis".

Chocolate lovers are in for a treat with the Hot Chocolate options. We opted to try the Belgium Chocolate which is topped with cream and an Oreo cookie on the side. This warm drink on a cold Winter's morning with its rich chocolate taste makes you want to get a blanket, change the channel on the big screen to a movie like a Romantic Comedy, and just relax on the comfy wall couches the entire day.

But drinks need some good food to complement it.
We came for breakfast and there are many great options to choose from. We decided on a healthier alternative with Avo on Rye, which consisted of: sliced avocados, fresh rocket and sliced tomato, served on toasted rye and finished with a squeeze of lemon. We added two scrambled eggs on the side - because what is breakfast without eggs?

A new item on the menu that was not under the breakfast option but piqued our interest, was the Haloumi and Avo Open Sandwich. The vegetarian option offered: Haloumi and avocado with baby leaf lettuce, tomato, peppadew and mayo, served on ciabatta with chips. There is a choice of breads for this meal which are: herb flatbread, sourdough, health or ciabatta. The side can also be chosen from: mac and cheese, onion rings, chips, stir-fried veg, Greek side salad, or slaw.
The Haloumi and Avo Open Sandwich is good value for money with three slices of bread and a side at a very reasonable price.

As mentioned before, we were so relaxed as we didn't mind staying at News Cafe the entire day, and what better way to enjoy our stay than with a plate of Nachos topped with chilli cheese sauce, melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese, jalapeños, served with guacamole, sour cream and salsa.
The nachos were a bit thicker than what we are used to but this difference was welcoming especially combined with the chilli cheese sauce, which made for a great snack, anytime of day.

Overall, we enjoyed the vibe that News Cafe had to offer and would recommend you visiting one of the stores around the country.
