Review: Peppermint Tart Cake from Mugg & Bean Woodmead
As a South African, Peppermint Tart is amongst our 'heritage desserts' - if there is such a thing.
The Tennis biscuit layer at the bottom, the creamy caramel dessert layer, the chocolate peppermint sprinkle and the layers repeated, to remind us of that awesome taste.
Now imagine that much loved dessert, as a cake?!

Mugg & Bean launched a new Winter menu and as an avid Mugg & Bean lover, I needed to experience at least some of the new items on their menu.
So on this beautiful sunny Autumn's morning, I made my way to Mugg & Bean Woodmead, as the atmosphere and environment helps me to get my creative juices flowing.

My first instinct is to look at the cakes on display and see if there is anything that I have never tried before, and thereafter choose something depending on the weather and my mood!
My eyes fell on the Peppermint Tart Cake. This is new?

My questioning stare, prompted a response from the Owner of the Woodmead store, Shareene, who pleasantly confirmed that it was from their new menu and made sure that I was well looked after.
For a child-free morning, my decision was one of pure indulgence - so a cup of Cappuccino and a delicious Peppermint Tart Cake was ordered.

I looked at this piece of heaven and bit into the same delicious, golden coconut biscuit base that I love, with the creamy caramel tart and bits of chocolate peppermint pieces. Add to this, a layer of sponge cake, another layer of the creamy indulgence and topped with a rich coat of caramel, crushed Tennis biscuits and pieces of chocolate peppermint... This baked deliciousness commands all of your attention.
