Year In Review 2019: Volvo XC60
Next on the list is the luxurious Volvo XC60
Building on the technology, luxury and safety features of the XC40 in the previous post, the new XC60 is a major competitor for the number one spot in the mid-size Luxury SUV market in South Africa.
Besides the larger cabin and luggage space than the XC40, the XC60 also has extra features like the heads-up display.
The panoramic sunroof was also fitted to this model and with the extra length roof it makes for some scenic sky views from the comfort of the nappa soft perforated leather seats.
One of the awesome extras fitted in this particular model which we tested is the 360 degree camera that shows you a high resolution bird's eye view of your surroundings on the 9 inch touchscreen centre display. This extra is also available and was fitted in the XC40 which we tested.
The touchscreen which is standard in the Volvo SUV range, takes a bit of getting used to, and if you are using a USB to play your music, the configuration of the folders directory is not the most user friendly.
Those small things are overlooked when you have the space, comfort, style, and some nifty switches like the start/stop and the drive mode selector button.
The premium sound was not fitted in this vehicle like the XC40, but the standard Volvo audio system is pretty decent as well.
Still a comfortable ride with the 20 inch 5 double spoke diamond cut alloy wheels which we also had on the XC40 and the AWD is always a pleasure to drive.
We tested the same 140kW 2.0l 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which we had in the XC40 but we managed to achieve 5.9l/100km in this one, as we found a balance between the inner city and long distance trips during this review.
This would definitely be a better option than the XC40 for larger families, as it is reasonably priced for the added features and extra space.
The Volvo XC60 pricing starts at R 699 500 for the Momentum trim and the D4 AWD 8 speed Geartronic Inscription in Osmium Grey (Metallic) which we tested is priced at R 827 950 (inc extras)
